I find it intriguing that they found the strand to be finer and more porous in the bends/kinks of the hair. It’s not some shocking revelation. I’ve noticed that when examining my strands. But my greater observation along these lines is with the curly cuts drama. Those that showed pictures of their strands with tree-like splits. To me, and I could be off, it looked like the splits fell along the curl pattern of the hair where the hair bends. At least that’s what came to mind when I saw the pictures. Those points are weaker along the strand, so what ever was overdone…overcleansed, over-dried under the dryer, or over hydrated…hygral fatigue. Those vulnerable spots along the strand couldn’t bear it. At least that’s one of my hypotheses.

I watched an online webinar with cosmetic formulators with a focus on tightly coiled hair and they said something similar. The fragility of tighter coils has a lot to do with each curve being a point of weakness. That’s part of the reason our hair is easier to manipulate when wet. The curls are looser with the weight of the water and the strands are easier to align.

@@WhatTheKink especially if the strands are fine to begin with. And I believe the 3 women that shared all had fine strands.

That's....wow. I'm inclined to agree with your theory as well. Very interesting.

When you say you don’t need the protein or bond treatments- could it be that they have helped and contributed to why your hair is in a great state? Perhaps just needed less frequently now? I’d be curious to see the results again after you stop using them for a while. I guess that’s the only way to truly tell? Stylists say that with frequent WNGs occasional use of a protein conditioner is needed.

This is certainly a possibility! I won’t be fully protein free as I don’t avoid it in my regular products. So I’ll still be getting a lil protein hit which some stylists say is enough for no color/no heat hair like mine.

I just got my hairoscope results back I did the analysis not long after watching this video! My wet elasticity is also low with my dry elasticity being in the low end of the normal range. I'm also planning to incorporate more deep conditioning in my regimen. My cuticles were not cuticling at the ends like yours 😂 I do have a trim this weekend though and already trim my hair on a 6 week schedule. My porosity was low at the roots ,normal to high mid strand, and and high at ends. Thanks so much for highlighting this analysis I had been wanting to do one for a long time but wasn't sure they existed!

Water entering the split and hardening it on the inside . . . I wonder if that's what was happening to the entire strand of people whose hair damaged by the NONB BGC method 🤔

With the cuticle layer part, since you don't use heat or colour I can see why! This is so interesting and I'm considering doing something like this now. I'm scared of the potential results tho 😆🙈

Since our hair is not typically uniform all over, I wonder if it would be beneficial to provide samples from different parts of our head? Like I know my porosity is different in the front vs the back. One could also have different levels of damage depending on what part of the head the sample is taken from.

With the way the hair was collected, it was from all over. I would have had to work harder to try to get hair from a single area.

I definitely want to try this hair analysis! Somewhat related question, have you ever visited a trichologist? I’ve been wanting to find one here in Orlando near UCF

How can you have elasticity problems? You don't straighten your hair. Do you color it? I don't understand.

i love when you wear your hair pulled back🤩do you brush it back with any product/water or brush it back dry? i would also love to see how you get all your hair back so neatly into a bun! ^^

Thank you. Funny that you ask. I will be filming how I do my buns for a June video. I bun my hair while it is damp and use mousse to smooth it down.

@@WhatTheKinkah great i cant wait for that! do you them as a protective style in between wash days when your wash n go gets frizzy/old or do you wear it as your style for that week?
@WhatTheKink
@WhatTheKink 2 ай бұрын
@etherealove It’s always the style for the week. For my hair, it wouldn’t come out as nice if done from an old wash and go. My puffs are always old wash and gos. I don’t often need to put my hair up though.

This was fascinating! I definitely would like to get this done now (although I'm a little afraid of what the results would be, lol). I also just went back to using an AP shampoo. Question... do you lather 2x with the AP? Or do you follow up with a moisture poo for the 2nd lather (assuming you do a 2nd lather like I do)?
@cmw1336
@cmw1336 3 ай бұрын
Also, how often do you clarify your hair or how often do you think you will clarify now that you have incorporated an AP shampoo into your regimen?
@WhatTheKink
@WhatTheKink 3 ай бұрын
@cmw1336 I clarify once a month. It may also be a factor that we have hard water and the Kinky-Curly shampoo I use for clarifying has chelating ingredients. My regular shampoo likely isn’t removing the hard water deposits. Will soon be moving to a slightly more moisturizing AP as well.

@WhatTheKink Sorry...I know this is old but I wanted to circle back to you about you mentioning switching to a more moisturizing AP shampoo. Which one do you currently use and which one are you thinking about switching to? Any thoughts on the AG Balance recommended by BGC?
@WhatTheKink
@WhatTheKink 3 ай бұрын
@cmw1336 Old? 😂 The comments are timeless. Anywho, I currently use Giovanni Tea Tree and will soon be trying Giovanni 50 : 50. I think choice in shampoo depends on a lot of factors. You’ve got to pick one that *you* feel cleans your hair properly. I’ve used AG shampoo in the past. It can be seen in some older videos. It was too cleansing for us.
