There are so many things going around in my head that I sometimes forget to add something into my videos. I should've mentioned that by shortening the front of the handles and discarding the front brace there is a trade off being made. Having an open wheel is great as there is no brace to catch on any undulating ground. But, the brace is used when tipping the barrow (especially with heavy loads) to rest on the ground, using the handles as levers to tip the load. If your load is light then this won't be an issue at all, it is very easy to tip a barrow full of leaves, weeds etc without the front brace. Even a heavy load isn't too difficult. But you would need to be more careful as the weight distribution of the load shifts as you lift and the barrow can come back towards you. It can't come back too far as the front lip of the tub will hit the ground if you let it get that far. Also with a heavy load you need to give a little more effort as you don't have a pivot point to help you out. It would also be possible to put your one foot against the wheel to stop it coming back. If you restore or make new handles for your wheelbarrow then it's something to consider. I take any weeds, leaves etc through my paddock to dump them in an area out of the way and it's quite a distance over swales and undulations and I can tell you the open wheel is fantastic and I can definitely live without the front brace. The ideal scenario is to have two wheelbarrows, one with a brace and one without! :)

Tailss1 I love the idea nice and simple but it should work if I pinch the locking handles from the old dead lawn mower that are used for folding down the handle to save on floor space 😹😹😹 thanks for a great idea 😹😹😹

Really enjoyed this video and the clever way you bent that thin walled pipe. I have done similar barrow repairs but always retain the front brace for standing the barrow against a wall to limit rust in the tub. Have learnt a lot from your videos, thanks.

Even when restoring an old wheelbarrow, the amount of care you bring to this simple project is wonderful. I think a lot of people (at least in the US) would have tossed the old wheelbarrow out and replaced it with a new one.

In recently rebuilt my thirty year old wheelbarrow. I liked your re engineering of various features. All were improvements. I may go back and eliminate the front brace as you suggested. A couple of things that could have been improved: The biggest weakness I observed on my barrow was corroded bolt threads on mild steel bolts. I wound up cutting the bolts off since the threads were mostly gone. That argues for replacing volts and hardware with galvanized fittings which will minimize corrosion ---and greasing up the threads, too. I would have recommended taking the tire off the wheel and derusting and finishing the inside of the wheel. A major reason for wheelbarrow failure is a tire that wont hold air, usually because the steel surface of the wheel wont fit the tire properly. And finally --- for everyone! Your wheelbarrow needs to be taken apart, repainted and the bolts greased. I would have suggested after ten years, but perhaps fewer would be better. If the wood and metal parts are primed and painted, they can be expected to provide reliable service much longer!

You know something I like best about watching your posts (aside from the soothing sound effects the videos have when on time-lapse)? Your ingenuity. I'd have never thought to use a piece of rounded steel as a guide to bend the piping into the shape I needed. Lacking that kind of creativity, I'd have just bought or rented the pipe bending equipment.

> What about the bolts? My experience is that corroded bolts are a major impediment, since they prevent the barrow from being easily taken apart, primed, painted and reassembled. If you can get the thing apart, I found that priming and repainting everything was light work.

Nice work for a badly engineered wheelbarrow. Get a European style barrow Frame made of galvanized bent pipe. 1. Load is more centered under wheel. 2. Handles are wider apparatus for better balance and arehorizontal when you lift the thing. 3. The front bar is much higher and does not fit into small bumps. 4 More solid and longer lasting. American style wheelbarrows are a nightmare if you ever had a good one.
