Whether want to learn the wheelie to impress your friends or just get the front wheel up & over rocks or roots on the trail, after watching this video you'll have better wheelies in one session!
For years doing wheelies seemed impossible to me, even though I could manual as far as I wanted to...after spending some time watching people who were really good at this skill I realized I was approaching it all wrong! I was forcing my body weight around, not using leverage in my crank arms, or using my brakes to help lock manage the balance point. In this video we cover common mistakes to avoid while we deconstruct the wheelie so it's easy to understand, the skills are straightforward to apply, & practice!
Although mastering the wheelie takes a fair bit of practice, applying the fundamentals we cover in this tutorial will take this skill from feeling out of reach, or downright impossible to approachable, practicable, & before you know it you'll be rollin' down the street on the rear wheel with ease.
What's your goal wheelie length?! Happy Practicing amigos!
-Mike

Dream bike is old school BMX. CW Phaze 1, Hutch Pro Raider, Mongoose Supergoose - just about anything in the 44-16 camp. Currently building a 1985 Mongoose Californian because I had one in the early 1980s. Just waiting on the bars to arrive!

so satisfied that you brought up the fact that chase's last name sounds like wheelie. all these skills videos are making it hard for me to pick what to work on! yet here i am saying i'd love to see your approach to faster cornering, especially in berms. my local pump track has a long berm with a bend the opposite direction in the middle that's eating all my speed -- throws me out and i don't know how to get back in for the second half. for a dream bike i mostly dream of picking out and buying all the components separately and building it up myself.

Another great tutorial Mike!! You guys are helpin' the Joy Riders get more joy, so many Kudos!! I just upgraded my 20+ year old Specialized XC Comp 26er to a Giant Stance 29er, so groovin' on that for bike action. Dream bike currently would be getting a Dirt Jumper like you guys are sporting for local Erie Pump Track, or maybe even a friendly BMX bike. Thanks again for spreadin' the JOY guys!!

Dude!! Thank you so much. That's our main goal & is so dang fulfilling reading comments of people having that aha moment & starting to execute on the skill!! Dude that new bike sounds sick!! A BMX bike is the move in my opinion - it's a more humbling platform but if you take it slow the skills you'll develop there translate to all bikes so well & quick.
@MrWhynotnow

@@JoyOfBike I think a BMX would be more "flickable" for mastering skills like hops, wheelies, manuals, jumps, etc and transfer the skills to the 29er. Hey, who doesn't want to expand their quiver, right!!

Could you please say a little more about how you’re breaking while keeping the wheelie up? Are you kind of dragging the rear break lightly the whole time and or just feathering it here and there? I’ve been practicing diligently for a couple of months but can’t find that sweet balance point. I’m either not getting the front wheel high enough or looping out when I grab a lot of break to set the wheel back down. Thanks for your video and help.
@JoyOfBike
@JoyOfBike 20 күн бұрын
Sure thing!! This is honestly what I’ve struggled with the most, too. I’ve learned that keeping just a LITTLE drag on the brake at all times really helps, then using little taps to bring the front end down when necessary has been the key. The balance point will come pretty easily once you dial in your braking!
