Yeah to summarize patient interviews into physician notes. It's not that it can't be done with existing tech. However when the limited IT support staff we have cannot get the label printer to interface with the computers, I have my doubts that they'll be able to competently interface multiple microphones / phone apps with dozens of different computers and then have the dictations imported into the correct charts. I mean, it CAN be done, but not with the skeleton crew of a team that we have.@@ampersignia

Remember back in the 1950s when they were like, "More automation will make it so that the common people will have more leisure time as their employers share the benefits of higher efficiency!" And then the millionaires kept most of the gains, did stock buybacks with the rest, and were like "Now we expect 700% more output out of you proles for the same pay, not adjusted for inflation, and then we'll write thinkpiece articles wondering why no one is buying a house or having kids!"

this is on purpose as an end in itself and not a byproduct of their greed, by the way, because they figured out people who have the resource of education energy and time on their hands, meaning they are not exhausted from overwork just to eat, are more likely rebell against excessive elitism, meanwhile this excessive elitism suits them so very well. Of course I'm being slightly cynical. For now the reason to overwork people is not only to exhaust them but also genuine competition between countries and their militaries, competition for which people are still useful. But maybe not for so long, majority of them.

It has already been shown in the world wide 2020 protests, and the ever increasing fascist policy leanings of the courts and legislature, the corpratocracy already controls the methods by which the protests would forestall our irrelevance. We would need every single worker, in every single industry to stop working completely and organize everyone’s ability to fulfill their needs in an anarcho-commmunist way-or something close enough that at least forty percent of the population would be ideologically opposed to the movement, even if they agree with its analysis of the problem its fighting. Capitalist liberal and Christopher fascist ideology is fundamentally opposed to the fundamental shift that would be required to fulfill such a revolutionary move.

If nothing changes, the capitalist ruling class will choose AI over human workers and keep paying workers in third world countries extreme poverty wages because it’s more profitable. Forced laborers and children make many commodities such as diamonds, coffee, cocoa, etc. Corporations will continue the mass destruction of the environment and fight and lobby (bribe) so that they can continue using fossil fuels. Our “democracy” is almost completely controlled by the wants of corporate lobbyists and interest groups. CEOs will continue to decrease pay, benefits, and breaks to line their pockets as much as possible. We’re already seeing rollbacks on child labor laws. Capitalism requires endless growth of profits, which is inherently unsustainable on a finite planet. We have the ability to provide food, clean water, and housing for everyone in the U.S., and yet we don’t. And we never will, because where’s the profit in that? The only solution is for the working class to rise up and take power over our own lives. To have an economy that doesn’t aim for profits and uses technology for the good of humanity- planning our production to suit the needs of everyone. Instead of having CEOs who take billions of dollars for practically no work, we can have workers-run, democratic workplaces with higher wages. Having food, water, healthcare, and housing as a human right. Instead of being a threat to workers, automation would become an asset, because it means that people can work less. This is where humanity should be going.

The trouble with slowing down put simply: it's been a not so secret AI arms race for many years now, and the first Artificial Super Intelligence(ASI) that can improve itself could exponentially outpace any ASI to come afterwards. AI developers are pretty much Paul Atreides in Dune 2 right now. They are saying publicly that it will probably cause a lot of problems, and keep making comments about having to slow down, but they keep moving forward anyways. So that if in 30 years 50% of humans are dead then they can at least say "Well, we said it's dangerous.". It's the self-fulfilling prophesy of "If we don't do it then some other bad actor will, so we have to do it faster before them.".

Fun fact, a lot of people reacted similarly to the normalization of machine farming (like tractors and whatnot). The following passage from The Grapes of Wrath portrays this mindset well. “Behind the harrows, the long seeders-twelve curved iron penes erected in the foundry, orgasms set by gears, raping methodically, raping without passion. The driver sat in his iron seat and he was proud of the straight lines he did not will, proud of the tractor he did not own or love, proud of the power he could not control. And when that crop grew, and was harvested, no man had crumbled a hot clod in his fingers and let the earth sift past his fingertips. No man had touched the seed, or lusted for the growth. Men ate what they had not raised, had no connection with the bread. The land bore under iron, and under iron gradually died; for it was not loved or hated, it had no prayers or curses.” Makes me feel like a lot of this is over-dramatization based on speculation, which might look ridiculous in the future. Maybe this is just another step in the societal tradition of creative destruction, rather than the dystopian nightmare so many people consider inevitable.

We are about to make something *smarter than us*. Not a mere tool.
@baconsir11593 ай бұрын
@@alexharrison2743 The agricultural revolution mostly refers to the implementation of the reaper, a mechanical farming tool that was still drawn by beasts of burden prior to the normalization of the tractor, as well as the explosion in the number of farms in the US during the 19th century. The tractor began seeing widespread implementation at the very end of the 19th century, and really exploded between 1916 and 1935. For reference, less than 30k tractors were sold prior to 1916. By 1935, there were over a million. The above passage isn’t related to the public’s attitude towards the agricultural revolution, but rather the second industrial revolution through its effect on the agricultural industry. As for “being fiction”, since when has that ever stopped an author from expressive their views/beliefs through writing?

It isn't this easy anymore, sadly. Even if every US tech company stopped completely, there is enough info for how to do it that China would pick it up and end up making AGI in a decade or a bit more. And that would be worse than the fast, incremental progression the west has been doing. The 'slow down' ship has sailed, and it's terrifying.

The reason people don't revolt is they are disconnected from their higher virtues such as courage. The irony is that AI will trigger people to evolve. Everything we've been facing: the pandemic, the ancient politicians, pyramid scheme economy, and now AI, are the perfect storm to make it reasonable and right to throw the values and contracts of recent older generations into a bonfire. The best part is that it can all be done legally and peacefully since the law can be made into anything at any time.

This is why the workers need to collectively own their workplaces so that AI and automation can be used for our benefit, instead of the benefit of the 1%. Workplaces should be owned by and run by the workers democratically instead of working to give billions of dollars to a few people who do practically nothing. Our current economic system (capitalism) requires infinite growth and endless profits on a planet that is finite and unable to provide those resources. If we stop focusing on profits for shareholders and billionaires above all else, and instead work to satisfy *everyone’s* needs, then we can use automation to make the workers not have to work as much or as hard.
@dan.urquhart3 ай бұрын
The founding members of a company do own it collectively, they are the majority shareholders. When their company got more successful they would share the profits by hiring staff and offering stock as a package bonus since that collective ownership made them more invested in the companies success... but now they won't, they will 100% own the means of production and not offer shares of their company to employees, because ai robotics will be all, and they have no need for staff to share profits with.
