Considering you only really see Edgar as the Bug parading around inside, it's interesting to watch the real Edgar communicating with the entity beforehand. We get so used to Edgar being this walking misfit, but in reality, Edgar himself wasn't anything like what we see; in some ways, worse! The Bug was less aggressive towards Beatrice than Edgar.

Yes, we hear gulping sounds right before Edgar's skin pops out, so the bug probably swallowed him whole right out of the skin, kind of like a candy bar or a banana.

Theory: bunny from 'platoon' actually survived Vietnam war and returned to the USA, adopting the name Edgar (to cover up his war crimes and due to seemingly being KIA) and running a farm. Reason why he doesn't seem to heed the aliens threat is due to believing he dealt with worse in Vietnam. His attitude is similar to bunny and even got a shotgun (bunny signature weapon).
