I have a video idea for you. I want to see how you handle departing Jackson Hole (KJAC) in a -700 to either Denver or Houston. Jackson Hole has an elevation of 6,400’ with a 6,300’ runway surrounded by 10,000’+ mountains. United, Delta, and American routinely fly out of here, sometimes operating 757s

Another good one would be KORD to KEGE, UAL flies the -700 on that route every day in the winter. Very Interesting approach

Thanks again for sharing this little nugget of knowledge. I end up taking misses about every 5th flight or so. It would be great to see a video exactly how to properly implement this technique on a missed approach.

When the FD has been recycled you fly the missed approach as you always would. No changes to procedures necessary.

Nice. I was expecting you to actually do a Go Around to demonstrate the FD behaviour though. Maybe one with FD OFF, and one with cycled FDs?

This is one of those videos... that come with a surprise. I never thought of recycling the FDs, because I knew about the missed approach "auto turn on". But I didn't knew about the difference after leveling off when turning them on.😳I didn't even try to turn on the FDs again, because I thought they would show the actual path again. So, still learning after about 10 years flying/simming with PMDG Boeings (FSX then and MSFS now) 🥸 Thank you for this insight and explanation! ❤

Yep, it was one of those things where I went "just whyyyyyy?" in the type rating as well. Once you understand the logic it kinda makes sense, even though I don't find it a clever design decision by Boeing. But hey, it is what it is.

Dear Emmanuel, I noticed a difference in the MTOW from the PMDG B737-800 value in the FMC->Payload and the FCOM I have. The value in the FMC is exactly the one from the -900. As my FCOM is not from an official source I would like you, a real B737 pilot, if this is possible (Due to equipment choices f.e.) or PMDG may have accidentally exchanged the values from the -900 and the -800? And by the way: You make the best videos for the B737. I learn a lot from you. 🙂

Would you do a video on how to use the HUD properly, especially during landing? Do you try to keep the circle on the HUD at the beginning of the runway? Also the dotted line across the HUD. I only tried the HUD once and it really wasn't helping me since I don't understand what it is telling me. I do get the speed and altitude on the sides. Thanks

No, we don't. We're actually not allowed to. I just did it because of workload management in the sim.

So essentially then: recycling the FD's in the 737NG is the same as using the push buttons to turn them off while turning on the "bird" in the A320, am I correct?

While I'm not totally familiar with the way this works in the 320 to my knowledge it is similar. Correct me if I'm wrong: The FDs will automatically enable in the 320 when TOGA is set and stay enabled until manually turned OFF again by the pilots? Then it is the same indeed.

@@ross._hendy yes although newer Airbus you can continue using the FD’s in FINAL APP mode past the decision altitude as they still provide guidance all the way to the missed approach point which is often at the threshold.

Sorry but I didn't really understood why yo have to recycle fd...in final (NPA) without performing a recycle you won't have the FD's indicating a good pitch in case of GA...?what will happen?Thanks.

Your FD's won't indicate correctly on final approach, when you go around they'll pop up automatically when you press TOGA.

@@A330Driver Must be a 737NG thing. My old airline's Boeing 744 FCOM uses "cycle". Say hi to RR for me. I was a former beta tester, too.
