It’s funny seeing American sports finally getting exposed to the shit we’ve had to put up with in football. We’ve had multiple players banned for 8-10 months for betting on matches, only for them to come back and play on the tv channels sponsored by betting companies, and wearing kits sponsored by betting companies😂

This is in every sport. We saw it already in the English premier league, the NFL, MLB, NBA and I’m almost 100% sure it’s in the NCAA. Athletes in these other leagues just haven't been caught yet. In terms of the NHL we know they do a terrible job of investigating their players and coaches so it’s likely going on there too.

It's up to three games now and more than one betting service. Also some of these were parlays on multiple JP unders with the biggest payout being over a million on a 10k bet. It's all circumstantial evidence but it is highly unlikely that this was just random betting. No one goes in on a 10 grand five way parley under prop bet on Jontay Porter without knowing something is up, no one. Someone got way to greedy.

It would be interesting to go through other games this season and see if there are any other irregularities with Porter. I'm betting that he probably tried a small bet before going in with a larger one. They will be able to trace the account that did the bet or bets and figure out if that person crossed paths in any way with Porter I'm betting that he thought he was pretty smart and probably had a degree or two of separation but they will figure that out. They're going to put extreme heat on somebody and somebody will crack..

Not sure what was going through Jontay's head, he seems like a smart guy. He spent all those years rehabbing in Denver. If anybody watched Jontay play it was clear as day that he belongs on an NBA roster and that he had potential. A stretch 4 who can defend, shoot the ball, pass and overall plays the game the right way. We aren't talking about a fringe NBA player who we don't know whether he belongs in the G-League or an overseas roster. I would expect a player like that to do this type of stuff. But the way Jontay was playing I have no doubt that if not the Raptors, another team would have offered him a contract worth millions. And if he continued to improve he would see a bigger pay day. If he's guilty, it seems like he was trying to be greedy and thought himself way too smart for actuaries and the guys in Vegas whose job is to snuff out these kind of things.

@aquamarine99911Ай бұрын
A way to stop this is that prop bets under should only be processed if the player at least plays in the first quarter, and in the last quarter. Otherwise, it should be a push. The strangest thing about this is that Jontay was showing himself to be a legit player. Like his brother, he worked hard rehabbing his injuries for the last few years, and was starting to really blossom. A 6' 10" guy who can defend and shoot the 3 could potentially make a lot of money over the course of his career. So he really was betting the under ... on his entire career!

So did he fake an injury or play bad enough in a short amount of time for the coach to pull him? It seems like it would be tough to control how much he played unless he faked injuries or he purposely played badly enough for the coach to yank him.
@obi3924Ай бұрын
He’d leave the game with an “injury” 3 or 4 minutes in. Meaning it was either a fake injury, or he actually wasn’t feeling well, and he’d use it as an opportunity to bet on himself and leave the game after a few minutes.
@joeyhoserАй бұрын
@@obi3924 If he's guilty, it'll be for embellishing pre-existing injuries. You can't completely fake injuries on account of the fact that your team doctors/coach/managers examine you and don't just take your word for it considering how much they pay you and have invested in you.
@obi3924Ай бұрын
@@joeyhoser That’s part of the investigation. They’ll investigate the medical staff as well, since it’s already suspicious that he supposedly was cleared to play by the medical staff, and then wasn’t able to play after only 3 or 4 minutes, on more than one occasion.
@joeyhoserАй бұрын
@@obi3924 Surely they will be asked questions considering their direct involvement, but I don't imagine the medical staff is under much suspicion. Why would they help a guy on a two-way convert prop bets? Also players leave games with aggravated injuries all the time and it's totally normal.

I don't think it would necessarily be a lifetime ban. All of the league's seem to handle these things about the same way and the NFL gave Calvin Ridley a one-year suspension. I think that was for just betting on football and perhaps he didn't bet on himself so that could definitely make it a more severe penalty but I think maybe 2 years then.
@kingdeedeeАй бұрын
The important thing though is that the NFL stated they found no games were compromised and that there was no evidence Ridley benefitted off of insider info. If Porter is found guilty, it’s a COMPLETELY different scenario because the allegations against him say he’s doing all of that. A lifetime ban + additional legal action by the NBA would not be surprising in the least
@BigBoyToys-ce5qgАй бұрын
If I see one more person compare this to Calvin Ridley.... This isn't even remotely comparable to Ridley, for a multitude of reasons. Not even slightly similar in any way. This is exponentially worse. I would be shocked if he doesnt get a lifetime ban.
@kingdeedeeАй бұрын
@@BigBoyToys-ce5qg I don't know why people keep saying it. Ridley wasn't found to actually be compromising games hence why he only got a 1 year ban. The evidence in Porter's case is saying he did exactly that. Porter could easily face a lifetime ban + legal prosecution from the NBA and the betting sites he used
