Facts I'm White and I didn't have enough money to eat told my black friend hey I'm broke can you buy me McDonald's pay you back. Instead went to his parents place and they fed me like a hog. And they knew I was struggling they gave me home cooked meals and left overs to feed me for the week. When it comes to Black Americans cooking the best food I ever had.

5:04 I can confirm that I can relate to that reaction. I'm an African woman and was in New York for the first time, lost on the subway looking for my accommodation. I asked an AA woman working there to help me. When I told her the address she said: "Now WHO organised this accommodation for you?! That area is NOT safe at all!". She was visibly disappointed/annoyed, shaking her head and frowning like she was ready to phone that person and give them a piece of her mind! 😄 No one besides my own mother has ever expressed that much concern for my safety in my life! 😭😅 she was so caring 🩷🙏

@W..J.. aww 🩷💕 we do need to look out for each other! She really made sure I knew where to go! Even grabbed my phone to have a good look and figure out google maps for me. It wasn't even the only time. Two other (younger) AA ladies approached to help us in other situations during my stay. One came over and politely offered a ride because we were chilling waiting at the gas station (Arizona) and the other came over to see if we needed help figuring out the subway schedule (NY). We must have looked confused as heck 😂 In both cases we were fine but felt so impressed and surprised by the kindness. Neither one was just passing close by. They purposefully came over to help out! Amazing.

@calisongbird - I know it makes us stand out but it's a respect thing from our side. We're trying to say "the chef was awesome so I tipped him. His colour/race didn't matter to me, but he happened to be black, which is why I'm bringing up the story, and his race is the bit that makes it relevant". We don't want anyone to think we're ass-kissing or treating him differently because of the guy's race. I guess it must seem weird as it does sound "white" but, in a world where so many white people are racist as hell (& written comments can be hard to contextualise without the tone of voice or body language of face-to-face communication), we're just trying to show that we're not. Also, if we're not careful how we word it, there's always someone who will say "what's his race got to do with it?" &, next thing, we're being accused of being hateful when we were just trying to join in and share a story. Essentially, we say it from a place of love - even if it makes us sound a bit odd! 💕👍

The Ladies and a guy at the office where I took the First Aid were really incredible. 1. One of the Ladies as she saw I failed on the written test took me aside and said: You were doing so good in class and knew everything, what happened? I said: some terms I didn't understand. She made the exam oral with me and explained the words I didn't knew. I passed perfectly fine ☺ 2. Once they knew I would be alone at Thanksgiving (my Mom travelled home to Mexiko for a couple of weeks) I had like 5 invitations to different homes ☺ Oh, the food at this once black Lady was OmG! They tried to give me gas money and I would never take it. I still have a key to my boys place just in case he loses them. We are family. I am a white guy, back when I was about 17 years old ( early 2000ns) I knew an older black dude in my city who was kind of a big shot in the club scene and for some reason always liked me. One day Method Man and Redman came to one of the clubs to perform. Naturally we all went to see the legends. When we stood before the bouncers (Arabian dudes) they wouldnt let us in. We just wanted to start trouble an suddenly my dude comes walking out the VIP entrance woth his crew, he saw what was going on so he came over and put all them arabian bouncers in line, like: "You work for me mofockas! You will let those dude in!!" And like that wasnt enough, he took us straight to VIP and I endet up chillin with the legends after the show!!!!! Smoke some ;) Damn the look on those bouncers faces when we left was priceless ^^ And it endet up beeing one of, of not THE best party of my life

I’ll tell you a secret… a lot of us white people also understand black folks on a deeper level, but we don’t put on the “blaccent” and speak in black slang in order to virtue signal. We choose to just be our authentic selves and not try to “be black.” But we are quietly observant and have been in many black spaces and get the culture.

@@calisongbird There is a difference between white people who understand black people on a deeper level because they have grown up around them for a very long time, and then those who are "quietly observing and been in many black spaces and get the culture." Gary is the former, while you are the latter. You would come across as virtue signaling while Gary would not because he "gets it" more than you and other white people like you, do. Not to say that one is worse than the other, but I, and some others, can agree that we don't get the "virtue signaling" vibes from Gary.
@calisongbird
@calisongbird Жыл бұрын
@@lolsmileyface1057Gary did not “grow up around” black folks. Quite the opposite, he grew up in a white trailer park. He didn’t get into black culture until well into adulthood; I’ve heard him tell the story. And it was only because a friend suggested he might get more work in black comedy clubs. Have you ever noticed how he turns his “blaccent” on and off? He dials it way up for standup or black morning radio shows, and way back on his channel vlogs. I grew up in Berkeley, CA, which is extremely racially diverse, as are the Berkeley public schools. I still live in the Bay Area, which is also diverse. My friends growing up were all colors of the rainbow. Maybe that’s why I don’t feel the need to publicly posture, put on the accent/slang, and be “invited to the cookout.” I was literally invited to the cookouts from a young age. It’s no big deal where I come from. And virtue signaling is by definition NOT quiet. I’m not virtue signaling because I’m not putting myself out there in any major public way like Gary is. I’m just replying to a comment on a KZfaq video, which is buried deep in the thread of comments. That’s not a virtue signal move.

Im a white dude from a single mom, when we were at our poorest a black lady next door(apartments) would bring my mom dinner "leftovers" for us kids there were 4 of us including mom in a 2 bedroom. I was old enough to know damn fuckin well those were not leftovers. that fuckin absolute queen knew my mom was workin 2 jobs strugglin to raise us and she would make those meals for us while struggling herself. Now as an adult I work at a nursing home in the kitchen with a black lady who has lived more fuckin life than anyone ever should, shes gone through homelessness, cancer, abusive marriage, and still comes to work with a smile on her damn face singin her songs dancin around the kitchen spreading nothing but happiness and love. Her family runs the local bbq joint(best in town without a doubt) and every now and then she will show up to work with rib tips(my personal fav), brisket, chicken, and anything else that they serve, all for me. Why? only thing i can come up with is that i just make her laugh. she makes me laugh I make her laugh it makes comin to work a delight. why am I typin this out in a youtube comment section, fuck if i know. But one thing I do know, the black community has taught me that no matter what, treat those that make your life brighter with love. why white people are so void of caring for others Ill never be able to comprehend. But i know damn well that if theres ever a time where my white privilege will help someone imma do that. For the love that Steph(my coworker) and her family has shown me, for the love that random lady that i barely remember showed my mom. yall got nothin but love and respect from me and mine.
