You should absolutely not assume that cops always act in good faith and are just looking to have a friendly chat. Especially if you're not privileged out of your ass. Everything you say can be used against you, even if you weren't aware they were looking to arrest you for something.

Then fight it in court. It’s not worth the risk to speak to the cops

​@@elenna_alexia It's not about assuming in good faith. It's the opposite. It's about assuming the cop is going to be a dick to you if you make things harder than they have to be. If the cop is like, "Oh, did you know you didn't have your seat belt on back there?" and you immediately start going, "I plead the fifth! I won't speak until my attorney is present! I demand a supervisor!" it's a super easy way to go from a, "Don't do it again. Now run along" to a "This guy is being so shitty, I'm going to hit him with every infraction I can."

@@ksarecords8099 Nah. I'd rather just be polite and not get a ticket right then and there. The best that can happen is a warning, the worst is a ticket. Whereas pleading the fifth you'll always just get a ticket.

​@@drudleU have no evidence to prove your claim. Furthermore you can politely tell the cop you won't be speaking with them other than to comply with lawful orders. If they could give you a ticket before it's safe to assume they are just going to give you the ticket. Trying to talk ur way out of it is a great way to incriminate urself further though.
