Great video. As a lineman we occasionally have to cut trees and trying to teach the new guys about chainsaw chains is like speaking Japanese to them. I think something like this will really help.

I like the spur sprocket feature on these tools, having dozens of antique saws sometimes trying to figure out what the drum works with is difficult. I also use these in chainsaw safety classes for demonstration.

Hello! Greetings from Rovaniemi in Finland! I am builder by trade. I have used Husqvarna and Stihl before. Big bore to cut ice and basic saw´s for work cutting four by two`s. For tree felling I have some experience from work. I think that all together week of cutting experience. But never my own saw. Allways company saw. So, I needed saw for cutting my forrest with older trees. I bought Sthil 261c-m vw two days ago! I took it for a rip the next day. The tree was a birch. Heavy on water, because it´s summer, and with two 40 cm thick limbs too close to my summer cabin. The other limb was leaning heavily about (35%) after 2m from the ground. So, it was leaning over the top of the cabin roof. I had a 85 year old senoir logger Lauri at nine in the morning to help me. So I could not let him down. From the box to work! The first limb was a warm up! I was so high on adrenaline that I got shaky fingers. The second limb was pulled whit ropes and two rachetlines to safety. After the final cut it went to the right direction but got stuck on a tall aspen. The holding part of the cut was still holding on. I tighten the other rachet more and had to cut the rest of the hold off. It rolled in to the place of premeditated fall! I was really happy about the saw and Lauri was happy to get firewood home for the winter. Saw is realy powerful for the weight and size. For a medium size saw a could not be happier. The sound of the engine is on point! I went trough all the numbers of Husqvarna and Sthil. I found out that, I should get Stihl 261c based on numbers. Then I looked for people how are using it in You Tube. You came up. It was you who made the decision making easy for me. Real pro showing what to use and how to use it. I like our style and I like our videos. Remember to give full gas and thank you for your help. Mikko P.s. I still have 13,5 hectare to go. Can`t wait for winter to really start gutting!!! This is my dream saw

Also, on the stihl chain it should have the pitch and drive link gauge information on it. The pitch will be a number on the cutter and the gauge will be a number on the drive link. The chain in your video should have a 3 and 6 for 3/8 pitch and .063 inch or 1.6mm.

Metric has only added confusion to the chainsaw world. 60.96 cm bars. 5.556 mm files. Construction industry, too. How many trade carpenters call a 4x8 foot sheet of plywood, a 121.92 cm x 243.84 cm sheet of plywood? Ridiculous! I grew up in the era when both metric and imperial units were taught in school, Homelites and McCullochs were in the garage, men were men, and women were women. Today, truth is convoluted with conversion, acronyms, hysteria, and dark energy. I miss the “old” days when things were black and white, lol!
@Femalelumberjack2 жыл бұрын
Well one could argue that having to say 3/8” is pretty foolish too when you could just use the metric system and have an actual measurement. Most of the things that makes the measurements weird is that we have to convert it from your system otherwise we would just use 60cm and not having to say 60.something
@jimhofoss99822 жыл бұрын
@@Femalelumberjack Yes, metric is a better system of measure…but not both metric and imperial at the same time. Maybe sometime in the future, we will all be on the same page. Standardization…great tool you showcased, tho, to help with sizing and choosing the correct chain.😀🇨🇦

That thing is almost $10. WTF STIHL? This is the stuff I hate when stihl is such a rip off. It's just a piece of plastic for God sakes. That should be on a rack at the dollar store. The Oregon looks cooler and probably is better and it's only $5. Anyone with a brain would just get a digital micrometer for around $10. Then you can use it for millions of other things, not just your chainsaw.
