I did a very hilly and short TT last year on my Road Bike and got a 3rd Place! I am not a climber but felt really good on the highly tech course and was close to the times posted by the climbers!

All I will says is I was 6-8kmh faster for same power of my TT bike vs road bike on the same flat course - however its flat nice sweeping bends and long straights with predictable weather - change that to my new local home course with hills rough roads traffic stop lights twisty bends - explains why my TT bike is still in the flight case in mid july and my mtb is getting a lot of love

Thank you for answering my question! IM Subic is hilly with some crazy descents and I will be using my road bike with aero bars. BTW, I really love it when you bring “science” in, no arguments there! Cheers!

The real reason for a tt nike is that the position is better for your post bike run imo

1.5 kg heavier bike (?) would be a measurable amount slower on a climb. I would guesstimate 12 seconds slower (26km, 1,000m climb). TT bike is still faster but that extra weight, although rarely worth worrying about, does have a measurable affect.

I wonder ... how much faster will I go when I swap my MTB with aero bars and road tires (Schwalbe marathon extreme plus) for a (budget) road-bike (I mean I really do need another bike :-)) (assuming same position of course)

Man, imagine if drafting is fully legal in triathlon without the 12m rule. How much speed would they make... and how about comparing UCI legal TT bike against triathlon bikes? also, enter

Dont agree. If it is windy rather be on the road bike. Plus tri bike is not used in anything but a tri event.

The question is, can a aero road bike with tt extension, disc rear wheel and an 800mm front wheel be as fast as a tt bike, if yes, this would save buying a tt bike?
@Fastfitnesstips
@Fastfitnesstips 4 жыл бұрын
....and with exactly the same position on the two bikes? No it's close but there still is a difference due to subtle differences in the frame/seatpost/brake concealment etc. Its around half the difference mention in this video
@johnfrederick4372
@johnfrederick4372 4 жыл бұрын
Would these results change if the Athlete used a Aero Road bike with Triathlon bar Extension like the 2020 Trek Madone? Or can you check to see what would be difference between the type of road/Tri bike against a traditional Triathlon bike.
@Fastfitnesstips
@Fastfitnesstips 4 жыл бұрын
Yes I should have covered this more fully sorry....the difference is roughly halved for a 2020 integrated superbike with long aero extensions

Have you seen the weight....I hear its heavy?
@Alan_Hans__

From aerogeeks "In size medium the frame weighs in at 2,230g while the fork is 1,450g. (Ceepo believes in the next generation they can get this weight down).Oct 12, 2018"

@@Alan_Hans__ So 3.5kg for the frameset vs 1kg for the 2020 road bike? That's quite a penalty...but in a flat TT that probably doesn't matter as much as the CDA saving. I believe there is a CDA saving, but I can't find how much anywhere
@Alan_Hans__
@Alan_Hans__ 4 жыл бұрын
Whilst out riding today I did what you do. I thought about bikes and how to get faster for less effort and less dollars where possible. This got me thinking that it would be nice to see a real world test comparing a typical road bike with the Shadow-R but with further testing with the 2 bikes also swapping out something like Zipp 808's for whatever the cheapest wheels on Wiggle are. I would imagine that there would be dramatic differences between the 4 combos but it's the difference between aero and cheap wheels on the Shadow-R where I'd like to see if shielding the wheels means you can get away with cheapies.
@Fastfitnesstips
@Fastfitnesstips 4 жыл бұрын
@@Alan_Hans__ shielding the wheels definitely works, but not so much just a thin strip in front of the front tyre but the whole wheel (ideally the top half) a bit like the ugly aerodefender (bikerumor.com/2018/09/25/null-winds-aerodefender-carbon-aero-fenders-slice-headwinds-faster-than-aero-wheels/) but nothing beats an actual disc wheel or disc wheel cover (front and rear!)
