Yup my mom had this conversation with me too. She used to always ask me "would you feel good, if you ever said the same mean things to yourself as other people? And would you, say those same things to other people?"

I won't guard my kids from such experiences. I would prepare them to face such thing with bravery because the world is full of people who would demonize you because of a few disagreements instead of understanding what makes the other person unique.
