Hi JazzMentlists. First, I just want to direct traffic here. This channel is split 50/50 between Beginner to Intermediate and Intermediate to Advanced. I rotate who I produce material for. So, follow these links to make it easier. 1. The sheet music for this Advanced lesson is here jazzmentl.com/consecutive-ii-7-to-v7-chords/. 2. The Beginner Course is here: (the lessons are in the exact order you should complete them) jazzmentl.com/the-ultimate-beginners-guide-to-jazz-piano/. 3. Intermediates, I have a a dedicated Intermediate Playlist for you here kzfaq.info/sun/PL1UIy7xJUY-EIipnBksbCPbSwhMTp61sf. Now, this is a HUUUUGE amount of work for me and I only ask 1 thing in return. Please interact with this channel but leaving a comment and a Thumbs Up. Why? It helps rank the videos and also tells the KZfaq Algo that it should let others know about this channel. This is how a channel grows. I thank you in advance for leaving a comment. Enjoy! - Paul

Indeed, recently there are really tons of videos about the 6'th diminished scale on KZfaq, so finally a video that points out when to avoid using it, and consider other reharm ideas as well, depending on the melody, or harmonic environment, progression, etc... . Great lesson, thank you Mr. Tobey.

Question: other credible sources recommend arpeggios going up and scalar runs coming down, particularly with bebop; and Bill Evans uses arpeggios going up quite often. Not sure I would call that a cocktail music flavor.
@Jazzmentl
@Jazzmentl Жыл бұрын
Of course, it depends on the arpeggios being played. I think the point I should have specified is that if you only go up with arpeggios, which is common among beginner and intermediate players, it really does sound cocktail and should be avoided. Thanks for the comment.
