I'm sure I read somewhere that Obi-Wan had a fling as well. He wasn't in much of a position to judge. Also, I'm guessing quite a few Jedi had secret romances. Generally speaking vows of chastity aren't that effective.

Ben Fleischman most like they all knew, but they kept their silence due to the insane pride of the council, where if they had to admit they knew about the relation, they would have condemned and banished Anakin from the order immediately. Most Jedi didn’t agree with the policy, but the Jedi Council was determined to hold the old ways no matter what, which got them killed in the end (Ps, sorry for all the commas but I couldn’t think of another way of writing this out.)

Joseph Sosa Ug. Mace Windu. I was half surprised that guy never turned to the dark side. He always seemed to want to punish people and thought the worse of everyone. To put it easily, if you handed that man a full glass of water, he’d dump it and say it’s empty. Anakin and Padme's relationship have the subtlety of a gas guzzling monster truck driving through a quiet medieval village while blasting metal music. I am surprised none of the Jedi members (particularly hard asses like Windu) did not rat him out or use it at leverage to prevent him from promotion to the Jedi council

I always had a feeling that Obi Wan knew the whole time what was going on with them. Almost seemed like he would look the other way at times. Anakin and Padme were probably 2 of The closest people to Obi Wan, I can only imagine with how wise Obi Wan is that he knew and kept that secret!

Of course he did, many people close to Anakin had their suspicions and looked the other way. Obi-Wan once had a brief relationship with Satine, so he understands and would be hypocritical of him to disapprove.

I mean in the deleted scenes for episode 3 when he goes to talk to Padme after Anakin goes bad he outright admits to her he always knew but kept it secret because she made Anakin happy.

Funnily enough, he gets crippled in the final battle against Ventress, as a means to explain his absence from Episode III. The Clone Wars creative team considered canonising Alpha, but ultimately decided to create an all-new character, Rex (sharing some of Alpha's traits and quirks) to avoid his name alliterating with Anakin and Ahsoka

@Joseph Sosa I'm in full agreement. And for Christ's sake, let them get married! If the council is worried about attachment, just ensure that there's a well defined conflict of interest clause so they can still do their jobs effectively. It's not perfect, but it would work. The Jedi Temple should be an order of warriors/peacekeepers, not a monastery.

Plus, while Anakin unfortunately needs to become Darth Vader for the Original Trilogy to happen, we could focus more on his shift from fighting for a free galaxy to a more orderly one, and the quest for immortality.

@@johnnygyro2295 In the original Legends lore, Jedi were the successors of force sensitive slave-warriors to the Rakatan Empire. Eventually they formed an armed revolt to free themselves and form the fledging order to protect the other former slaves. Even lightsabers were reverse engineered from a Rakatan melee weapon. Earlier Jedi had far more leeway on how they lived their lives and applied their abilities, too. It makes me wonder if Disney canon will touch base on it, at all. This all supposedly took place tens of thousands of years before Luke and Leia were born.

Apparently in the director's commentary for the second volume of the 2003 Clone Wars. One of the people began talking about how one scene where Anakin and Padme met for the first time since Anakin got his scar from Ventress, he said that this scene was meant to imply the night in which Luke and Leia were conceived.

The Sith denounce sentimentality as much as the Jedi do, but for different reasons. The Jedi say that your attachments make you unstable and question your commitment to the Order, the Sith believe your attachments make you especially vulnerable. This tenet of the Sith philosophy is rather deeply explored in the character arc of Darth Malgus, and also to a lesser extent in the arc of Darth Thanaton

It goes to show obiwan always had faith in anakin never falling to the dark side, that's the tragic part. He wanted to believe in quigons dying words but also he grew to love anakin. I like to think Obi-Wan was the only one who knew about the relationship for many years, and that the scene where he tells padme about anakins fall in ep 3 was the only time where he gave a clue he knew. "Anakins the father isn't he?" The shock on padmes face. "I'm so sorry..."

Man, stories like this really highlight to me how the Jedi are required to live such tasteless lives that a loving marriage needs to be hidden. Obi was in the position to act against such old-school ideals, but he left all the hard work to Anakin, who was not in a position of power but was trying to bring love into the fold (which could have arguably been what the prophecies meant by bringing balance to the force. Obi really dropped the ball with training his apprentice.

Honestly, this would be a great Clone Wars arc. Another look into Anakin and Padmé’s relationship as well as Obi-Wan’s perscpective on it. A good test of Anakin’s selflessness and moral duty and whoever the assassin would be on the show would be a good fight. Savage Opress could’ve taken the place of Durge or even better, Durge could’ve been made canon.

Obi Wan knew. Almost everyone who knew Anakin actually knew. Nobody spoke anything about it due to the possible political backlash if it leaked out . Padme is a famous and very influential senator who is also a pro-Jedi. If she was an ordinary person, nobody would've batted an eye.
