Since This officer talks a lot about his friends, I'd have to say he has a lot to say about his family too. So after hearing Luke say that, it was basically a slap to his face. This tells him that Luke probably won't end up as a corpse since they're family. There's probably other questions going through his head. If he's vader's son, what is he doing with the rebellion? If Luke is a Jedi, and he's the son of Vader; wouldn't this mean that Vader is or was a jedi too? It might click considering Vader also has the mystical powers. If Vader is subservient to The Emperor, wouldn't this possibly mean that the Emperor is the same? Has he always been following the 'will of the force' he so despised?

I’d have raised my eyebrows, curious as to what I’d just heard and what the backstory was. But it probably wouldn’t have affected my negative feelings for The Force, nor change my mind that some people followed it like some sort of religion. I’d still view it as something rumored that the Jedi believed was guiding their minds thru their lives, creating their destiny - as a rational Imperial, I’d have considered this foolish and weak. As far as Vader using The Force, well, those were rumors too; I certainly have not seen anything out of the ordinary, but have heard rumors about fasingùuu The trooper didn’t even know what Luke’s saber really was. Billions and trillions were mostly oblivious to The Force, and the vast majority of people and soldiers either hadn’t heard of the Jedi at all, or thought they were just overblown propaganda. Besides all of that, the galaxy that was being ruled by The Republic, with the tip of the spear being Jedi muscle, had plenty of warts…enough such that millions and millions flocked to The Empire, and if not for ideology, then for the benefits, financial security, and being able to provide for their families. Alderaan, you say? Well, unless you were from there or were on the Death Star, most probably never even heard of it or may have heard about some rumor. There were tens of thousands of habitable planets in the galaxy, thousands in the Republic. Quick, name me every planet in our galaxy, along with each planet’s moons.

One thing that doesn't make sense here is the Emperor was thrown down a "bottomless pit". There was no body left to find. So it was kind of hard to conclude he had been slain based on the limited time they had to investigate.
