The fact that he refused to give his badge number and nothing happened is infuriating. I think it should be in the law that any officer that refuses to give a badge number is fired immediately and charged with obstruction of justice.

When I was in my criminal justice college classes, my professor (who was a former district attorney) said the police tend to get it right arrest wise about 75-85% of the time, and that “street cops” bring that percentage down, since they typically have to make spur of the moment decisions for arrests, vs detectives who usually have more time to research

I love how each expectation of the cops fate is lowered, and the video still manages to prove us wrong. Next thing we know the cops will get a raise and somehow the victims get sued.

What makes me so angry about these false arrests is that the suspect (especially if POC), don't even look like the guy they're looking for. Like... completely different tone of skin, different height, different eye colour, different clothes, different general facial features (nose size/lips size etc). Like... It makes me so angry that with white people they look at them closely. And then claim that they can't tell POC apart if they're the same ethnicity. Here - they have him in a car. He has to be carrying his Driver's Licence. WHY NOT JUST CHECK HIS ID??? I cannot. I am disgusted. And to EDIT and add to that: Hair also comes up. Like they're looking for someone with dreads or braids and arrest someone without. Like - you can't just take those off instantly. If that doesn't match - they'd also have very different length of hair if it's in braids or dreads compared to most natural hair (obviously some wear natural hair even if male and having long hair, but still, hair that just came out of braids or dreads doesn't look the same usually).

The thing about cops in the US is when they screw up, they don’t apologize, they have qualified immunity and therefore face no real consequences.

Advice given in the US is to comply, get arrested, get a lawyer asap, and fight it in court. From something like this to getting a speeding ticket when you weren't speeding.

2:33 at this moment, if I was in a situation like that poor man, I would say, can I see a warrant and hope my folks are inside recording so they can see if or when I use my right to defend myself or the 5th amendment to not say a damn thing and try and peacefully walk away if they don't show me a warrant or give me a valid reason to arrest me. I saw another video where a cop was bragging about how he finally got to tase somebody (again, an innocent man). The first group is claiming they never agreed to be bound by the law, are not citizens and don’t recognise authority figures and judges as having “Jurisdiction” over them. While the filming in public people “first amendment auditors” are Constitutionalists. They strongly believe in the rule of Law and the United States Constitution. their mission is to see that everyone else respects and obeys those laws and recognises and respects their rights under the United States Constitution.

I grew up in a police family. This is why the police officers probably didn’t face any consequences. I don’t agree with this nor do I think it is any kind of excuse but I can shed some light on this. RESISTING ARREST IS A CRIME! No matter if what you were originally getting put in handcuffs for was a mistake or not. No matter if you are guilty or not. If you resist you will go to jail. If you are calm, and comply, they will eventually realize the mistake and let you go. But if you resist, they will eventually figure out you aren’t the right person but you will still get a charge and go to jail. And the court isn’t going to want to hear any excuses bc you broke a law. The cops are allowed to detain ANYONE that they believe is part of a crime. That includes detaining someone for looking like another person that’s got a warrant, so they can investigate and make the proper decision. So the reason why the cops don’t get any repercussions is bc they are doing their job. If you get tased bc you are resisting you can’t use the excuse that you weren’t the person they were looking for, bc that’s not what you got tased for. Remember….if you are calm, and compliant it will make everything go smoothly. You don’t have to be nice or cheery but just be calm. It will save your life. I’m going to use the first vid as an example. If you are going about your normal day and cops spawn out of nowhere, start shouting at you to freeze or get out of the car….giving you an aggressive command….IMMEDIATELY DO WHAT THEY ARE ASKING! I know it’s a natural response to want answers before you comply bc you’ve done nothing wrong. You have to submit for your safety. Ppl are being killed by officers, so you have to do what you can to protect yourself. The way to do that is shutting your mouth and putting your hands behind your back. At that point the officers feel safe and they will calm down and be willing to have a conversation. They aren’t going to toss you into the back of the cop car and go directly to the jail without patting you down, which would eventually lead to the officers finding your wallet and seeing that you aren’t who they are looking for. We all watch these body cam videos and we’ve seen time and time again that guilty ppl react by saying they didn’t do anything, making excuses, refusing to get out of their car until they are told why. And eventually resisting. So it’s hard for officers to differentiate when they are pumped on adrenaline and scared that this potential person with a warrant is going to harm them in order to escape. So the best thing to do if you are innocent is submit and do everything the officers say first. I’ve always said “nothing is going to be solved with a cop on the side of the road. So be polite, be accommodating and follow commands. That will insure you don’t get shot reaching for your wallet in your back pocket. STAY SAFE OUT THERE!!

So the cops that were stopping the gentleman in the vicinity of a shooting, I think was actually handled correctly up until the point. It’s pretty standard. I feel that if you don’t have all the information and you’re trying to keep up potentially active crime scene it’s probably prudent to actually, ask for ideas. In that first video of that poor kid they didn’t even ask for his ID and just walked up on him when they said that they were suspicious of him, committing a homicide. It wasn’t that they necessarily suspected that he specifically was the shooter, but they were there in response to providing safety after that crime And that to make sure that everyone is safe they need to verify that he is not related to the crime in anyway. Then everyone got provoked and fuck wild and it was totally fucked. In that situation, though you technically don’t have to show your ID I personally would not have had any issue with that, and I am a very strong believer in my personal freedom

Don't conflate "Auditors" and "Sovereign Citizens", the former are sometimes silly and out-of-line, but also sometimes doing a useful service to the public. It's something that CAN be done properly. The latter are coo-coo for cocoa puffs loony tunes.

I'm not going to defend the actions of cops in these situations, but I am so sick of hearing this "Sovereign Citizen" bullshit regurgitated by people that clearly do not understand laws. Not to say that in this last situation that is the case, but getting argumentative with a police officer is never going to make a situation better. You don't want to hand over your ID immediately, fine. But your interaction should go more like: "I am not legally required to present an ID unless I am being detained for a crime. Am I being detained?" "Yes" "For what crime" "XYZ...We are looking for (John Smith) with the description of (...), driving a vehicle that matches the description of your vehicle." "Ok, well I am not that person, here is the proof. Am I free to go?" At that point, shut up. You have the right to remain silent. Utilize it. Stop arguing, if they want to dig themselves into a hole, let them. But picking a fight with an officer is not likely to end in a way that you want.

That second one was 100% an understandable mistake. I think you don't understand what an understandable mistake is. They're given a description, and the car matched the description. Then they called it in to confirm. It's something that understandably happens. Would you rather they NOT go after cars that match the description of a car involved in a crime? They didn't even seem to rough the guy up, and immediately called to confirm. Then again, we don't get the full context in this video. The lawsuit says that he went through false imprisonment and battery. We don't hear of or see battery, and false imprisonment only works if there's no justification. They were going after a car matching his that was used in a crime. For that last one, if you have nothing to hide, you shouldn't worry, as long as you show you have nothing to hide. If you act like you're hiding something, then of course people will suspect you of hiding something. And, again, cops aren't always given the detailed reports. The car would still match the description of the one in the other photo. And just because there were supposed to be 2 suspects, doesn't mean that one could have just, you know, left the car, leaving just one person in the car. I feel like the channel that made this video is adding some "spice" to it to make it sound worse than it is. Some of the stuff is correct though.
