I have found that the public discourse is basically non existent. We don't have to agree with each other about everything in order to have a civilized conversation about it.

And so much of what they spew out isn't even true. They lie to push their agenda and scare people into agreeing with them, like by saying women will die with illegal abortion. So true. We all have our own lives, our own different circumstances and therefore our own beliefs. And for the most part, most of us keep these beliefs and values to ourselves. But a lot o people have to ask you what your opinion is, so you tell them, and then they get pissed and angry at you.
