De-escalation mate. He was obviously drunk. They were trying to keep the situation from escalating. He got drunk, screwed up, and was told to knock it off. Most people would go inside, sleep it off and feel like crap in the morning. The other 10% end up like this joker in the drunk tank at the office.

The behaviour of the sergeant (sadly excised from this particular video) was reprehensible, and the way he demeaned his officer in front of the perp should result in his immediate demotion. When he says at the end "well there's a way to do it..." (handcuff the perp) it was a response to the officer saying that's what he was trying to do before Sgt Shithead turned up and told him to let go of the pretty lady.

No, he didn't deserve an apology, but the cop gave him one to be courteous (and to maybe shut the fool down a bit) and it cost him nothing, so it seemed to work a bit. Also, he didn't really have to mean it and it was basically a de-escalation tactic.

If they'd played that last segment in full everyone would see what a complete sh1t the sergeant was, publicly demeaning and putting down the arresting officer while being very indulgent with the good looking lady. Unfortunately for him his advances were spurned and he had to do what he'd previously ben telling his officer not to do - which was to put the perp in cuffs. You can just hear him at the end still trying to justify his disgusting behaviour to the arresting officer when he says "well there's a way to do it and a way not to do it" when he is forced to assist in handcuffing the woman just after telling his officer to stop. If you can find a video of the full interaction you'll see just how horrible and unprofessional the sergeant was.

I'm in school rn for my MSW and you are absolutely right. It's really hard working with people like this because they're practically incapable of considering they're wrong about something. Everyone deserves housing, food, water, and dignity, regardless of how unpleasant they are. Unfortunately, you can't change someone who doesn't want to change. It's a sad reality, but you gotta work with what you got.

@@onionbubs386 I have hope that someday the system will have room to help people like that. Every generation, we learn more about mental health and the stigma of getting aid drops. It's hard because even in the comment section you notice how people don't pick up on those things, easier to say entitled or karen, but her complete confusion about why the cops can't help her find a safe place to live kind of speaks for itself. She's looking for an adult figure to solve the overwhelming problem. She throws a tantrum because she DOES cope with things like a child. But more is learned about that every day. there are more options to help people. So hold onto that. Also I'm pretty sure that when they took her to jail and/or to face a judge, that a social worker or case manager would likely be contacted so we can comfort ourselves with that

I understand mental illness can play a part in things. But that's not the case every time. In this case, it is but mental illness can't always be used as an excuse for being racist or violent or even just disrespectful to people. I've seen a lot of videos where someone is being a violent racist and people who go straight to mental illness.
