Might make sense,but that would imply Ian would have to be at least in his late 30’s or early 40’s to have served in WW2,I spose maybe he could have been to Korea,that would make more sense,but I would also ask if he was so good at unarmed combat from military service why would he bother to become a school teacher?

I have no idea who Frank Castle could be, yet I thought little romantic interplay between Hartnett and Aztec woman was wonderful touch. His expressions spoke volumes especially after she told him accept his proposal by drinking Coco...

@@paulhunter6742 Frank Castle is a Marvel character, a violent and brutal vigilante. when written well he's very interesting, cold hearted with tinge of villainy that makes you grateful his target is mafiosos and sex traffickers. A veteran from a war that became a vigilante after his family was ripped to shreds, though it always makes you think, and outright stated in one comic, that his real home was war and all his family's death did was give him an excuse to wage another war. When done well, it's done very well. Other times he's just a generic vigilante you'd get in movies and tv. A very interesting form of villain protagonist, he doesn't do villainous stuff to innocents, but he certainly has the temperament and mentality of a potential villain. Unfortunately too many fans don't get the memo and think he's a cool tough guy that can do no wrong. Needless to say, an exaggeration that a cold hearted Doctor could be Castle but I get where OP is coming from lol. Too many fans want the Doctor to be some sort of vengeful killer.

Not just that but seeing as how the Spanish conquered so many other people that didn't do what the Aztecs did... It's pretty niave thinking they still wouldn't want to cut them down. Though you could also see Barbara as taking a kind of "white savior" role by trying to "civilize" the Aztecs.

I remember Steven Moffat doing an intro before the episodes played on TV pitching the episode to me about how this was before Doctor Who started mixing the the sci fi and alien elements with the historical past elements. It sounded a bit odd to me as a 15 year old who liked the sci fi stuff more, but I found myself really enjoying it!

In the original pitch for 'Doctor Who' (a series called "The Troubleshooters") the idea was for a group of scientists to explore space. However, Sydney Newman noted that the educational aspect might be difficult to communicate to kids at home as the scientists already know everything. It might be that same idea; there's more conflict if the character isn't as well informed.

Heather McCrimmon from Doctor Who Adventures comic was a history student at Edinburgh university. She was also a modern day descendant of Jamie McCrimmon.
