This song has great sentimental value to me. When my cousins and I were kids we would sit on their stoop and sing this on the top of our lungs. Why? I don't think we ever knew. We are in our seventies and sixties now, two of us have passed on. I cherish those times.

Remember this was the 1st Fest after Katrina. New Orleans was hurtin'. I've heard many folks who were there say when the band played this song, there wasn't a dry eye there. I tear up every time watching this video. Also very meaningful these days...

I was in New Orleans a couple of months before Katrina .. It was a welcome place filled with friendship....What hurt me so bad watching those people on T.V crying out for help for days and then weeks and I seen no (Rescue) ..It broke my heart and anger my soul.. especially when I seen the little black boy only a little child crying with a red shirt on a roof top that did it Knowing that I am a American to allow our own people to go through this torment Knowing we had The resource and power to get them out of there... The rescue started right there in then God knowing my grief also....and the shame of my own country that I was born in who didn't Rescue the living before ...I love My Country America Red white and blue beg God For forgiveness and to have mercy on us all.....🙏 I slept good that night seeing the rescue in process Knowing God Almighty would have Mercy Knowing God Answered... my prayers swiftly ... Love the song when the saints go marching In Beautifully performed by Bruce Springsteen and the band ...❤ I will give that an extra Hallelujah for all the saints...😇 Is was and to become to bring in the NEW WORLD 🌏 With a heavenly shout 🙏 Amen ❤👀

Lived in New Orleans for a year of college and watching this now as the clock strikes midnight on my 23rd birthday and I graduate in a different city, but New Orleans will always be with me. If you're reading this, Bruce, thank you so much for your music, your inspiration, your example, and everything else you've given me. My ultimate dream would have to be riding bikes through the Southwest with you.

In December 2005, after Hurricane Katrina unleashed her wrath in 2004, I had the great good fortune of travelling from Canada proudly with Habitat For Humanity. At that time Former President Jimmy Carter and Miss Rosalind hosted us. It was their 46th (I believe) anniversary. When Mrs. Carter answered the call of a thousand to deliver this song, the audience went wild. Former President Carter cried tears of love and joy on that stage at the sight of his wife singing this song. An experience I will never, ever forget! That is love.

@@peggymicsky8607 Except Hades has a dry heat witch isn't too bad, [I've been dead for awhile so I know]. But with New Orleans from late April to the end of September, the humidity is so great that you can't walk outside without pressing your hands against a wall of voodoo. So I think I might take Hades over New Orleans in the summer.

Those who have had the privilege of enjoying music in Preservation Hall know that there is a sign on the wall that says something like "Requests: $1.00, Saints $5.00" Hey, the prices have probably gone up, but the notion is that those elderly musicians (some in their 80s) have gotten tired of playing the song each and every night. It's good thing that the song was "new" to Bruce and the Sessions Band, so we could all enjoy it.
