Literally at a bridge today where I need to make a decision of leaving job and investments (stock/option ownership in company) over being happy and doing things I want to do that feel exciting and not answer to other people. Video could not have come up at a more opportune moment. All I can say is, if you stick for the pay, you may be sacrificing your mental health, and at worst you resent it and start to fall behind on deadlines and start feeling like a failure. It's just better to acknowledge that you have to move on sometimes. In my situation I don't have a family to support so money for me - what is it really worth? I've also feel like I've had these thoughts for over a year, that's a year I could have been doing something more worthy of my time. It's okay to exhaust and squeeze the job for the last little bit it has to offer you, but don't get delusional when you are trying to "motivate" yourself ("I am learning so much" copium) through projects that do not inspire you.

I am still quite new in the industry, I would say medior close to senior status. And finally I am getting comfortale with all my tools, so I want to enjoy some period of peaceful grind, where I can really focus on problem modeling and problem solving without learning new lang, new deployement tools etc. And then I will move to something else.

Might sound weird but I think the moment you realize your current job becomes your comfort zone is the best indicator it's time to leave, if you still want to level up your career. However, if you're fine stagnating, getting your paycheck and calling it a day... if this makes you happy, I wouldn't argue with that.

@@trash_dev It's not an itch per se, but more like I have an idea that will solve, for me and others, xyz, so not falling in the scope of work related topics at all. So even if work scratched all my itches, which it mostly does I still have the urge to work on them and so I think I prefer a quieter job for now in order to work on these projects, which some of might make me some money. Very good video! I'm sure lots of people had to hear it. I am glad you tackled the fact that the tech job market is tough right now, there is no going around it. And another thing for those who are here in the comments section, if it takes you more than a month to find a job, it's not a problem at all, keep going at it, you'll make it eventually.

I want to leave my current job but I don't have the energy to join another one. This is my third company in two years and a half of experience. This is why I'm hesitant about switching to a new job and I don't think I can handle the stress of meeting new people and prove myself, earn trust, learn new business and settle in a new company.

personally I'm currently "earning" and not learning so I do freelance/personal projects on my free time to do more learning. I also took a massive pay cut at my previous job to be able to work with the CTO who I felt could help mentor me which he did but eventually moved on to a higher paying job.

I'm currently thinking about getting a different job. My job is fine, a fair amount of interesting things to do, but I feel like I keep getting held back by the same things every time and it's kind of wearing me out. I know I'll eventually get to that point no matter where I work, but a change of pace would be refreshing. The thing that makes me hesitate is that I'm likely going to be offered to work on a different team fairly soon where those things won't bother me.

Well I feel called out. I actually have a pretty good chunk in savings and make pretty solid money ATM, but I'm having a tough time. I just want to step out of the market for a little while and live for a moment. Pulling that trigger is HARD though. First, I wanna mention third reason for stayin in the job - joy. I bet prime doesn’t learn much while doing for Netflix, and he delegated this part to strems. And I bet that it’s not hard to find other job paying more, than N. But I’m sure that he enjoys it. Second, the general advice for everyone, who had someone relying on you, that don’t quit your job with empty hands. Firstly find new place, and then quit. That could be pretty hard, but leaving with no next place is dangerous not only for the person quitting, but for everyone who relies
