I like this guy but I disagree on part of it. Prolly the part you like the most, cause you need to at least get good enough for other people to want to become fans of you. Or else your just waisting time and money. No one wants to put in the work to perfecting your craft everyone wants to skip that step. Y’all stop being lazy.

I have been paralyzed by the pursuit of perfection so I appreciate this video. I always think back to an interview with Ryan Tedder (One Republic) in which he said he made sure his rough demos were nearly perfect before he let any hear them. I have been recording music for nearly 3 years and noone has heard my songs. I think its time to change that. Thanks again.

I too was worried about the lack of perfection in my music and vocals but once I realised it will never be perfect to me but could be perfect to someone somewhere then i just released it. The sense of relief was enormous and my latest songs sound so much better than the earlier songs. Plus i accepted my voice is what it is. I dont stress about it anymore. Just get it out there :)

I’ve been recording and making music for about two years. I’m 19, my first solo ep was okay but I learned early that perfection is impossible. I started writing songs and making music since elementary school and didnt release any music since I was 21! Only have 3 songs out right now and I sat on each of them for months before I decided to drop them. Started promoting myself on instagram with photoshoots and gained a good following before dropping songs and so far it’s been going well! My next focus is getting to open mics & finishing an EP to release by summertime!

This is a marathon not a sprint, gain the experience and stay hungry! i support everyone that watches this channel, adam is awesome and honest! were not meant to be perfect were meant to work hard to become the best version of ourselves! I'm trying to balance writing quality music with getting my name out there. Last year, given where I'm at in life, I decided the best approach *for me* was to commit and write & record 50 new demo songs as fast as possible. I started on this project almost 6 months ago - work in studio almost every night (about 90% consistent on that) - I'm on Song #29 right now and planning to be done with #50 at the beginning of May. Then I'm going to take the best 10 demo songs from those 50 tracks, polish them with careful rewrites, re-recording and full production. And then, start pushing those finished tracks as hard as possible so people can hear my best work and discover me through it. I'm interested in the long game and my dream is to be a GREAT songwriter. Plus, I love writing music, as challenging as it is, and hearing my work come to life - see my own art getting better with hard work and experience. So, these 50 songs are just a gateway to my dream of a lifelong career in music. I want to write hundreds more. Each song I've finished has taught me a *huge* amount about songwriting and my artistic vision. I've learned practical workflows, new instruments, gotten stronger at lyrics, weak spots, discovered my strengths, gotten way out of my comfort zone, and become a more fulfilled human. But, Adam, you've made me realize I could do so much more to share the JOURNEY I'm on, even before I start releasing the music itself. As always, the problem is time: every minute spent on Instagram, Twitter, KZfaq etc. is one less minute to actually do songwriting or to earn money from my "day job" to use on music projects & promotion. But, I could easily do more with just a couple of minutes a day - even just an Instagram photo each night in the studio. Thanks for the great advice and motivation as always. I'll start sharing more of the journey so people know where to find my music *before* I start releasing it, not just after.

Remote God I started the same process a few months ago. I used to polish every song I wrote before moving on. It’s so freeing to write while putting off judgement until I have a collection of songs, then picking out winners. I think writing an album may be easier than writing a single, because you don’t waste time polishing something that should be in the trash.

As small as my fan base is, it is amazing and I wish when I was 18 the technology existed to connect in this way. So what do I do now, give up? because I'm almost 40? F that. I've been recording and officially making music for about a year and a half. I am releasing a song on the 14th of this month. I'm 25 years old and if I can find the courage to do it so can anyone who puts their mind to it! Stay determined and stick with it and anything can happen. My biggest thing that I let hold me back a lot is the fear of failure. But I haven't let that lock me down in a while. I'm finally putting a song out and making it happen. I recently found this community and from the videos and comments I've learned a lot! Thank you to Adam and to this amazing community for helping me and so many others grow as musicians!!

I started to play seriously in 2000, in 2006 I uploaded my first video on KZfaq. But during those years I practiced my passion of playing guitar and producing music through some amateur compositions that I shared on my blog with friends and people at the faculty I was studying at. Now it's 2019 and my KZfaq is growing and I am still learning. I have a few friends who keep waiting to perfect, but I agree with Adam that doing is better than perfecting, perfection only comes by doing. If you listen to any of the older bands like Iron Maiden for example you will see they still get better on each new album even though they have doing music for more than 30 years.

Stop referring to your music as unfinished crap! No art is NEVER finished, it is just stopped. Every artist you know, is known because the way they wrap up and stop adding to their art for everyone to see, hear, taste, touch or/and feel. . If all art is unfinished, then the question is; how are you going to stop adding to your creations so that they can become a product?
@johantt2591

Michael De La Cruz very true! I said it a bit sarcastically, and I was thinking about this trap of waiting until everything is finished and perfect. Because it never is. :) I training myself to have a more ”fuck it”-attitude to creating, I need to wrap things up, as you put it, instead of only seing that this song lacks something, or that vocal is not good enough etc. It is what it is.

To that jonah dude, I've been in the dark for ~ 12 years; exploring different genres, trying to find my place in them, developing my own style, get the necessary skills, etc. For a while, I was dead scared people will either not care, find it's too weird/bad, or maybe genre, sound, and culture purists will shoot me down . Constant uncertainty. It never ends. With wisdom now, I realize there will never be an ideal time. It's only now that I've begun putting myself out there. I'm still nervous but whatever. Idk what's going to work (if it will at all), but if you truly love something you'd go for it anyway. Pump out that sound. Give the world your music, homie ✊🏽.

Much love Jonah! And I do agree, post your music when you finish. I've been writing for about 5 years, just got my recording equipment in April and through every song that i finish i see the progress that I'm making, sure i have a few songs that aren't the best but i see where i came from and how much progress i made. Every song that I finish I feel like I've gotten better and better. Keep up the hard work man! And Adam, thank you for your content. I've seen many of your videos(some more than once) and you're really doing a huge favor for so many people. The world needs people like you. Much love man! Hope you're enjoying your night!

As someone starting out making music, this was a big help, especially when you went into how its more important to share the journey rather than release only when you consider the music "perfect". Great advice!

Hey Adam man you really came in clutch with this one. I've worked with many artists and they all tell me to put a KZfaq channel together but I'm too anxiety prone. This post was affirmation for me .Thanks man, you just got another sub.💯.

Thanks for this Adam! It just made me realize that I actually have been doing this... but not consistently enough. Just scratching the surface. What I mean is I consistently share myself singing covers, and more importantly sharing my progress. But not consistently enough. & not as transparent in sharing, I feel I could share more and engage with more people. To market myself more that way. But to add on to your point, sharing something is better than nothing at all!! Definitely gonna start applying this, and start up my KZfaq channel again 🙌🏽

I've been writing/recording music for over 10 years. Throughout a lot of that time I didn't focus on the marketing aspect of things and taking the next step in promoting myself, mostly just on creating. I am a well developed artist but I feel I haven't done things quite right coming up. I street perform in Seattle with my 7yr old son, been doing it for a couple months now after moving here from Salt Lake City and it's been Great! We take a sign with our info and do really well in promoting and gaining supporters that way but your videos def motivate and inspire me to take it to the next level on social platforms and to learn more about the business side of it as well (Which is what I need). I subbed not too long ago and I highly appreciate watching your content! I will learn and take action from what you put out and Trust Me, you will soon see us as One of Hip Hop's Greatest Duo's. Much Love and Respect to You Fam!
