Not many people remember Brady was injured in The AFC Championship game that year he replaced Bledsoe, and Bledsoe came in the 1st quarter and won The AFC Champ game. Then Brady started and won The Super Bowl. Crazy world, had Bledsoe not been injured Brady may have never seen the field, or certainly not so soon.

That’s the only aspect in football that truly motivated him. 185k is literally considered minimum wage for backup QBs in their time. Even in today’s era, the lowest paid backup QBs make around 600k a year. He was saying despite making minimum wage in the NFL, money or fame did not motivate him to go out in the field and prove that he is worthy of winning football games for his team, because he believed he had better skills than his competition.

185k is a lot but lets actually put into perspective. He's paying instantly 65k in taxes, then probably like 10k for their pension plan, then certain percentage for his trainers and nutrionists. After all that he might end up with like 50-60k for pretty much a seven day work week with diet restrictions and exercise everyday. Guess what? one injury and it's all over.

He did not disregard the money - he said it didn‘t motivate him. That‘s a huge difference. Most people are driven by income and when they get what they want (or more) they start slacking. His real motivation was winning championships. He is one of the few who I actually believe, cause he played on below market value contracts to keep the team competitive. His hunger showed in Tampa. I am a Packers fan and I know the difference.

I felt the same way on my highschool football team, told the coach to give me a drive to prove myself. He did. I did a toss to the back, one play, he scored, I never got a second drive and we continued to lose the rest of the year and I never got another drive all year over the starter. As far as I was concerned, I was much better than the guy ahead of me and never got the prove it. My dad wasn’t funding the football program, money matters at the lower level for sure.
