Turkey didn't participate in many World Cups but in 2002 they did and they blew everyones expectations. Nice to see real footage of the banished Sukur. FYI Sukur who scored the fastest goal ever in WC in that 3rd place match was removed from the Galataseray 3h documentary and in the final against Arsenal all kicks were shown except his. They took out his membership from the club and erased his name from stadiums and places named after him in Turkey. It's crazy how fast someone can dissapear from history so fast after creating so much of it. He was involved in politics.

Morocco had a more difficult road to the semi final, Croatia, Belgium, Canada, Spain, Portugal all heavyweights except for Canada. But still respect for Turkey in world cup it's never easy. They showed how good they was in the matches against Brazil twice, they lost with one goal and Brazil had a amazing team, the fighting spirit the Turks had was out of this world. I was a little kid sitting and praying in the semi that they would win. Turkey gained my respect from that moment. I always see them as a great football nation, even it did go down after this world cup.

Turkey defeated no single big team in their way to get the bronze. Turkey defeated just mediocre teams (Japan, Korea, Senegal and in qualifiers Slovakia and Austria). Their performance was over-praised. As a proof, by now, Turkey hasn't made it to another World Cup since then.

@@republicofhandball8815 Japan and Korea both toped their groups, and Senegal had easily beaten France, who were the reigning World Cup holders. They were robbed of a point against Brazil in the group stages as well. They didn’t have the hardest run sure, but the teams they beat were no pushovers.

Morocco's rise in this world cup is remarkable as they've managed to beat top teams one after another although they've no flair in their attack and they're shy to strike when the opportunity comes. Turkey's story was different, they beat China, Korea and Japan and lost two matches to the only bigger team they played, Brasil. I believe the grouping in that world cup was ridiculous, USA, Korea, Senegal, Turkey reached in the Quarters 🤔
