Turkey didn't participate in many World Cups but in 2002 they did and they blew everyones expectations. It took the World Champions to be, Brazil, to finally put a stop to Turkey their impressive World Cup run. Can they ever achieve a better World Cup result than they achieved in 2002?

Anybody else notice that Turkey played Brazil twice without one of the games being the final? That's not supposed to ever happen in a 32 team cup. Who was the genius behind that one? Think.. when the top 2 teams of each group move onto the round of 16 (single elimination) they are put on opposite sides of the table so that way they can only meet each other again in the final or for third place. So... how did Brazil and Turkey play eachother in group stage and again in the semi finals? I'm calling shenanigans!!!! Fifa fair play MY ASS!!!

that is usually because when teams make highlights their players go various leagues next season and composure and focus is lost among players on international level. You would need another generation to spice it up. Germany,France,Brazil are exempt from this due to their players are already established among the highest leagues possible.

Turkey was so strong that they were the only team at the time capable of going head-to-head with prime Brazil. The final match of the 2002 World Cup should have been Turkey versus Brazil. Turkey was the second strongest team, not Germany. Germany wasn't able to keep it up against Brazil as good as the Turks. The Turks were simply unlucky to face Brazil in the semi-finals instead of Germany or South Korea. In 2003, Turkey even played a 2-2 draw against Brazil in the Confederations Cup. It’s important to note that the 2002 Brazil team is considered one of the best national teams in history (in my opinion, even the best ever). Unlucky for Turkey, that Brazil had THIS Team, when they had their Golden Generation. They could have made History.

Turkey defeated no single big team in their way to get the bronze. Turkey defeated just mediocre teams (Japan, Korea, Senegal and in qualifiers Slovakia and Austria). Their performance was over-praised. As a proof, by now, Turkey hasn't made it to another World Cup since then.

@@republicofhandball8815 Japan and Korea both toped their groups, and Senegal had easily beaten France, who were the reigning World Cup holders. They were robbed of a point against Brazil in the group stages as well. They didn’t have the hardest run sure, but the teams they beat were no pushovers.

Nice to see real footage of the banished Sukur. FYI Sukur who scored the fastest goal ever in WC in that 3rd place match was removed from the Galataseray 3h documentary and in the final against Arsenal all kicks were shown except his. They took out his membership from the club and erased his name from stadiums and places named after him in Turkey. It's crazy how fast someone can dissapear from history so fast after creating so much of it. He was involved in politics.

Morocco had a more difficult road to the semi final, Croatia, Belgium, Canada, Spain, Portugal all heavyweights except for Canada. But still respect for Turkey in world cup it's never easy. They showed how good they was in the matches against Brazil twice, they lost with one goal and Brazil had a amazing team, the fighting spirit the Turks had was out of this world. I was a little kid sitting and praying in the semi that they would win. Turkey gained my respect from that moment. I always see them as a great football nation, even it did go down after this world cup.

O time turco foi "campão da Ásia" naquela copa: venceu China, Japão e coreia do Sul. Mas, com exceção da China (que teve um jogador expulso), as vitórias da Turquia eram muito apertadas, e contra Senegal foi com um gol de ouro na prorrogação. O mérito do time turco é que era muito bem treinado, marcava muito bem e tinham um excelente goleiro.
