Every day, millions of men live with mental trauma due to toxic masculinity factors taught at a young age and sustained through life, and are unequipped to deal with it. Left unchecked, this trauma can manifest itself into crimes such as domestic violence, sexual misconduct, and murder. It is important that men understand how the masculinity identity can act as a barrier on the path to mental health, and apply healthy masculinity methods in order to (1) bypass these barriers, (2) break the toxic cycle for future generations of young boys, and (3) help their fellow men remove toxic stigmas in approaching their own trauma, thus creating a healthy male identity. Dr. James Wilkerson is an author, advocate, professor, and two time TEDx speaker in the areas of sexual assault prevention and gender issues. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Fantastic work, Joey! You nailed it in so many ways! Vulnerability is a key. Tremendous presentation! It takes a helluva man to talk about these issues.

You sit in silence and suffer. Don't worry, you get used to it, and you become somewhat desensitised to various kinds of pain.

find someone you trust to talk to, assuming you got a lil group of friends find a way to just let them know stuff has been bothering you. itll be surprising if you speak up and see how much people care about you. if your friends are real friends theyll for sure pay attention and support you through it, chin up you got this Godbless o7

i’m a woman, but i don’t have any friends either. just can’t keep up with anyone because i don’t have the energy, i have too much in my own mind all the time, i find everything overwhelming. so i make sure to be there for myself. do nice things for myself, make myself laugh, be kind to myself when i’m upset. you have to learn to be your own best friend, and to actually care about yourself. i still feel lonely sometimes, but it’s 100x easier when you do love yourself. i wish you the best x
