Well, this was helpful. I turned 66 1/2 in November 23 so I applied 4 Dec 23 to start my benefits in January. I do realize I won't receive them until Feb at the earliest. My Birthday is on the 18th so I would receive it on the 3rd Wednesday each month. That's great. My concern is I haven't heard 1 word from Social Security about my application. I go online and it keeps saying it's being reviewed and they will get to it as soon as they can. I just wish they would give me some word on what to expect. Sorry for venting.

I'm retiring in December and didn't know the dates of the Social Security checks. I can now plan my monthly budget. Thank you.

Quite a bit more optimistic than some others. Some speak of 3 - 4 months before my first check.

If you apply 2 months early, the government holds back 1st month and some get it in the 3rd week… so about 3-4 sounds right.

My Pension is paid 1st of the month, my birthday is Feb 12 so SS check will be 3rd Wed so Nice! Get a check About every 2 weeks?

I'll be 67 in one month and I paid into Social Security for decades. I am living outside of the US and not able to claim my retirement benefits because the last item required on the form is a 10-digit US phone number, and I don't have one. The website states that a US phone number is optional and not required, but I cannot apply online without one. I created a My Social Security account a few months before I turned 66. And I receive a text message with a code every time that I login to my account, which works fine. So I have two questions: 1. Why is a US Phone required when the web site states that it is not required? 2. What can I do about it? There must be other people trying to resolve this issue, so I thought you might be interested to help. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Question for anyone if I look at the S.S. website to see what I could be paid when I retire. And if it said 1900, is that what my check would be, or do they tax it and pay me less. Thank you

Question: I turned 62 on September 22 and had already been approved to start receiving my benefits on November 23. I went to the Social Security website to verify today, and it said "Payments Suspended Your payments are suspended because our records indicate that you were or are currently working." So is this saying I have to quit working to collect? How do I fix this?

Since you retired below FRA during the year in 2023, your monthly income is capped at $1770/month once you start collecting or else you get penalized. In 2024, it's $1860/month or $22,320 for the entire year. You need to end your f/t job and start working p/t instead. Make sure your p/t wages don't exceed the annual limit.

Thank you for a great Video, I was wondering if you clarify something for me. I decided to collect SS right at 62 and I turned 62 on March 20th of this year. So I applied early in January 2024 so there won't be any delays. So I was expecting to get my first check in April, last month. Nothing came through, the Social Security website says Next payment May 22nd. I went to the SS office and the lady was sitting behind a thick glass with just a few holes in it and I couldn't really hear what she was saying, she waved around this chart and said your next payment is May 22nd. But everyone online is saying I should receive it the following month after my birthday. I am so confused, can you clarify? Thank you

You turned 62 during March so April is the first full month you were 62 so your first payment is May. Every payment you get is for the previous month.

It is either 66 or 67, depending on when you were born. 1943 to 1954 means it is 66. 1955 to 1960 gradually moves from 66 to 67 . You can look it up easily. Probably already have.

. @markfriedman5093 I replayed the video a few times in regards to your reply and actually he does not answer it. If you replay it at 3:03 what he answers is : " When does your Social Security start after you decide to draw SSI ?" ( His answer was: " It comes 1 month after you decide to draw " My question is much different, it's: When does your first check come in after you apply to get Social Security? He answered: When does it come after you decide you want to receive it . My question was: When does it come after you apply for it ?" That's a much different length of time. That, I don't think he answered.

Because the first full month you will be 62 is June and you will get that payment in July.

If you want to get the amount you would get as you turn age 64, yes your first payment would be two months later.

I don't know about your job pension, but for Social Security pension, I am sure you need to apply to receive the pension benefit. You can do it online, or by visiting your local SS Administration office.
