The original, and still magnificent Smarties jingle that ran for 30 years. Featuring Jack Creley. Music by Tommy Ambrose, lyrics by Gary Gray.

I have always remembered this add. They played it during Saturday morning cartoons. We can now relive the past

If you're a Baby Boomer or a Gen Xer born and raise in Canada, this jingle was part of your childhood!

Millenials too! At least us Xennials 😉 except by our generation, all Smarties tasted the same regardless of colour. I heard the red ones were banned and the recipe had to be changed

I'm a Boomer, still remember this one. Do any of you other Boomers remember the ads for the "Bar Six" chocolate bar? It was my favourite chocolate bar in the 1960s but it went off the market. At least the Jersey Milk bar is still available.

I remember the jingle from other commercials but I didn't know it went back to at least 1967.

“When you pick your boogers, do you eat the red ones last?” Ugh… the things we would sing when we were kids. 😣

I think that's Jack Creley as the main character, and singing the jingle.

I know the jingle very well but this commercial definitely predates me. I have very VAGUE memories of that box and the way Smarties looked then.

It's because of this commercial that I did eat the red ones last.

this jingle was clearly inspired by the song "does your chewing gum lose it's flavor" by lonny donagon (of which bob singleton did a cover in 1992), but it also bears a resemblence to inu no amawari san, a japanese kids song better known in the west by way of it's use as the iconic game start music in the arcade classic frogger.

@Nick malcom. Inspired by 'Does your Speamint lose its flavour which is the original. Lonnie Donegan covered it and changed it to chewing gum. This ad is Canadian so they may have heard the original before hearing Lonnie Donegan.

It has a definite Bonzo dog doo-dah band flavor.

I remember as a kid the outrage when Smarties, and other chocolate bars, went up to FIFTEEN CENTS!!!

This ad was brought back several times during the 70s. I found this character scary and remember changing the channel when the ad came on.

Always loved this commercial. Pretty bad that I can remember the entire jungle word for word ... 30 years later lol

This must have aired for several years, because I remember it so vividly, but it was created before I was even born.

The jingle remained the same until the early 2000s. This version probably came back every few years until the mid/late 70s

Wow - did not know this went back to the 60's. Also, Jack Creley - from not only Dr. Strangelove, but also Write On! (And you had a Paul Brown video just the other day. Is Diane Dewey next???!!!)
@plauditecives5 жыл бұрын
I thought "Write On!" was brilliant. I work in government comms with a lot of young people who don't know how to write. They could benefit from a series like that.
