Thanks for talking about your teeth. It made me cry because my son is 25 and his teeth have decayed so bad from soda that some are not salvageable. covid has made it very hard to find a provider to help, who takes our insurance. month after month for over a year they tell us to call back to see if they have openings. We finally decided to go out of network, they got him in within days and have an appointment to do the work within the month. the cost is $20k... and yes, it's a hard number to process when the income is low. I appreciate you sharing, I feel better knowing we aren't alone with the struggle. instead of wallowing in the experience, the old mans video cleared the fog in my head enough to see that there will be some sort of good on the other side of it. that it's a hardship we must endure and grow through for a reason. I do not watch you on a regular basis but was drawn to watch this one.... idk, i wish you well and that you have a great holiday season and beyond.

I lived with my dad until I was 30. I had my first super serious job around the same time. Today I own my home and have a decent job at 41. I think younger guys think they should be this super put together guy by the time they are 5 years old thanks to society. Shit will happen when it’s meant to happen. The best advice I can give anyone: don’t be afraid of opportunity. You never know where it will take you.

As for living with the parents - I stayed with them after my college and I discovered that when you're older you just appreciate them more as adults. We know our parents from the kid's view, then we move out and often spend much less time with our family. If you have the opportunity to live with your parents you become to know them better in the day to day, they don't have to take care for your so the dynamic changes. I'm happy that I've spend more time with my parents and I'm actually a little sad to move out because I kinda know that the most time together have passed, they are older now and the time is running out.

I lived with my parents and also later, with my grandparents until I was in my 30's. Probably the best thing that could of happen to me, and really set me up for my entire life, because I could save money, a fuckload of it. Its basically for this reason alone I think that I had enough money to afford the down payment on my house, a full 20%, no PMI. Now my kid has a backyard to play in, a good school district to go to, and has her own bedroom. And our parents have a place to go when they cant take care of themselves anymore. And I will extend the same to my children as well. I consider myself so lucky to be able to live at home as long as I did. Many people simply cannot do that, and also the social stigma of living with your parents pushes kids out of the nest too early and we've ended up with a generation of adults who have so much debt, and no method of saving, and are now permanent renters for the rest of their lives.. What happens to them when they get old and cant work anymore? The rent never stops coming, at least the mortgage is over in 15/30 years and you have some small equity to show for it. Honestly if anyone thinks your a loser for living at home with your parents without understanding your situation, those people are probably not worth having in your life.

@@JejuIju Well said! I'm from Pakistan where family values are extremely important. Even if we are in our 40s, 50s with wife and kids, we live with our parents. It's so weird how something so beneficial like being with your parents is looked down upon in America. Been living in the US for almost 14 years now, some traiditons here dont make sense at all to me. I was shocked when I first found some of my high school friends were moving out at 18 years old to live on their own. So many expenses eat up those paychecks when moving out of your parents.

This was really insightful and wholesome. An older man leaving behind some of his knowledge and wisdom to the younger people. We really can use that, I can use that. I myself am currently going through a depression and it has really slowed down my education. I've been thinking all this time that it's the worst thing that could've happened to me and that I'm a failure, which makes it even harder to get back on track. I've been stuck in a negative spiral to the point that I've considered suicide, but just hearing this man's words seems to really have had an impact on me. I usually don't like to open up about this stuff, but I felt like it was necessary to myself and out of gratitude for this man to do so.

@@sindri1447 I think knowing when something isn't working and readjusting from it takes wisdom. In that sense, I can see how "quitting" might be the right solution. But when I say "it's never okay to quit" or "it's never okay to accept defeat", I am thinking more along the lines of life, love, and success. Regardless, I wouldn't have counted giving up on something for justifiable reasons as "quitting". Like you said, it was being brutally honest with yourself. I'd count it as quitting if you tried your luck at failed or got criticized and stopped for it. To me, that is what I mean by "quitting". Just two weeks ago I told my dad this (a good man I look up to) and he told me “I know you see me as successful and a good man, but I didn’t have all this success until I was nearly 40 years old”. Really made me think about how I still have time and to keep pushing like he did.

What he says about ppl wouldn't have wanted him as a dad when they were growing up cause he wasn't the same is 100% true. My dad had me much later in life, 44 while my brothers and sister he had when he was 19 and 20 and another at 35. They tell me the dad he was to me was absolutely NOTHING like he was when he was in his 20s and they were actually jealous I got him in his wiser years. Now because he had me so late I also didn't get to have him in my life near as long, he passed from lung cancer in his late 60s when I was 21 and they were in their 40s. But I still feel I was the lucky one for getting a dad who had already experienced so much of life and had already practiced being a parent so he knew what to and not to do lol.

this really helped me, i´ve had the worst 10 days of my 31 years and they still coming, i prolly have 1-2 more weeks of it, ill just relax, and let life screw me over like im used to. idk why im freaking out, i´ve always had a hater in my family that tryhards to ruin my life for no reason. cant let them win, ill lose everything again if i have to, i dont need much to be happy anyways. my life is watching baldy, you cant take that away from me even if im homeless, all i need is a cheap phone, which i already have. ill try to fix my teeth too before that happens, and the lumps in my head (prolly just the cat scratching me, they didnt grow in a few years) but after that, f it.

When I turned 25, the age my parents were when I was born, I realized everyone is just winging it the best they can. I'm not saying older people don't know more or anything, but the older I get, the more I realize just how clueless a lot of "adults" really are. As a child we think the adults know best, they have some wisdom that only they can know, truthfully, they just try to make the best judgement based on their person life experiences.

It's so true what you said about other people not having to live with the consequences of you following their advice. After my wife and kids almost died in a car accident, I had everyone around me giving me contradictory advice about what I should be doing. I tried to follow as much of their advice as I could, and found myself dealing with even more bullshit as a consequence of following their advice. I finally realized that no one that was giving me advice had dealt with even a fraction of the BS that I was dealing with. There is something to be said for following "wise counsel." But most people who think themselves wise, are nothing more than wise-guys that won't give a crap once their advice makes you fall flat on your face. Any relationship that is contingent upon you doing what another person says you should do, is not a relationship worth having, because it makes you a victim of someone else's narcissism.

Go thru life learning and always improving, I'm 23, I got it a lil bit together, working hard, trying to save, living with my family still.. However I'm in family business learning building, painting, machinery, landscaping, (whatever we can in a small town) I felt like asmon said, I had it together at 17, I thought I knew it all,, then as time goes on, I just learn more, and the more I know the less I know I know! I'd say about life, find out what you want to do and work towards it, that's having it together,, be friendly and caring, don't lose it at people! That's having it together,, ye I got more but read philosophy if ur lost, all of the ideas,,

One thing that is helping me go through each day and keeping going is that as much as you have free will and have an influence on some things alot of things are out of your control and also life is very very random. Some people die trying and some people Live well without even trying much, doors seem to constantly open for them. All you can do is try work on improving daily in some way and if somehow things align you will start getting things together. But just cause they get together does not mean they cannot fall apart so always stay sober minded, alert and have some humility to balance out your stubborness, pride and self worth as a person

This dude talks so similarly to a guy i used to do rock climbing with. He was in his 50s, he was actually a construction worker, but it was incredible how much he knew. He was constantly reading about everything and if he told me that he has a PhD, i would believe him (im quite educated too, nuclear physics, but even in physics, he somehow knew what he was saying), he had so deep understanding of so many topics despite never even going to college. He hates the current educational system, but also keeps studying by himself. We used to have long conversations on really interesting topics while climbing, and some of his life advice i got is the best anyone has ever told me. Sadly, now i live really far away and last time we climbed together was about 2 years ago.

i lost everything in life a couple times and now at 35 im just now moving back into a place of my own in 2 weeks. i have a decent job, benefits and pto and a truck and now my own place and i have a handful of long term friends that are amazing ppl. i dont have a lot but im sober, im working, i have friends, i have transportation, i have tons of skills and hobbies, and im still young enough to learn new things and enjoy studying etc. im super happy with where im at in life right now. lost an incredible amount in life and lost lots of people in life but now i feel like it was all just making space to rebuild things my way rather than just settling for life the way it was and doing someone elses dream. just remember that social media and others portray a specific way of life and make it seem like you have to have certain things to be "happy" dont fall for that nonsense. do what makes you happy and know that you dont have to have a certain job or vehicle or trip to make you happy. happy is a choice, not an accumulation of things

I love listening to this guy. Seen other vids of his. His video about controlling your temper is especially relevant to me, so I've watched it multiple times. The story about teeth all rotted out reminded me of my younger brother when a dentist told him he'd have to have all of his teeth removed and be given dentures.. I cried at work over the thought because my brother was only 20 or 21, and he struggled enough with social situations back then. I drove him to another dentist for a second opinion, because I couldn't believe that he'd have to have ALL of them removed. Turns out, the other dentist was able to restore almost all of his teeth, but it took a lot of money and work. There's just no way in hell I'd let someone rip all of his teeth out when that isn't the only option.
