Probably cuz no radar missiles lol. I think it's fair to say just about everyone's favorite jet times are guns and ir missiles. If you've played any other serve it's just straight up aim-120C every 5 seconds lmao.

@@oldfashionedwrx3574 I've only just started to dabble in dcs but in warthunder some of the most fun I had was f-100 vs mig-19, straight dogfighting and then very basic ir missiles. It was a fun strategic game of chess but now with radar stuff it's kinda taken away from that unfortunately

It is the most fun dcs fighting for sure. The modern planes are just dodgings beyond visual range missiles and never seeing your enemy. Also a bit too much fiddling with the computer systems instead of flying as much with your eyes as in cold war. Perfect balance between not too boring simple planes and not too techy

Fun fact. Viggen is really destructive even without weapons. Viggen almost ripped apart a house and destroyed a bus when going supersonic 8 meters above the ground. Really cool video btw. I am pretty new to DCS. I decided on learning the AJS 37 because I want to play as one of my own countries. When I learnt Viggen I will keep learning about JAS 39C Gripen which is a really cool mod which got support from actual Gripen pilots.

Fun fact. They tried to recreate that happening to evaluate making it a possible attack manouver. But they were unable to recreate it reliably. It rarely happened in their tests.

Fun fact a Viggen engineer (now Gripen engineer) told me, the cannon on the viggen was so accurate that they needed to add disturbances to it so it wouldn't shoot through the same hole the first shot created.

@@OCinneide it does but not DCS AJS37. JA37 (aka Jaktviggen) was interceptor variant with Orelikon KCA 30mm cannon (it shot same rounds as GAU8 but with different priming method). So OP refers to that one. Damn i wish we have JA37 or J35 Draken in DCS :c

The Viggen is so great. The plane is made by Saab, a jet company that decided to make cars. The engine is made by Volvo, a car company that decided to make (parts for) jets.

That is a whole world of gaming I did not know. Sure beats usual flight sims. Quite impressive systems (including the server set-up!) and impressed also by your clear experience in it. Excellent vid! I trialed and picked up the Viggen in the sale just to do recon and ground strikes on ECW and TBF, and have been deep dive learning it's various systems, so it's great to see you doing some of that. And, I already learned that I don't have to go all the way to the parking area and shut down to RRR, so thanks for that tip! I like it's precision mission profiles with the waypoints, but I am also very glad that you can do some Free Hunting with the Dorito as well! I look forward to Contributing to the War Effort in my Viggen soon!

Pull back on the stick proportionally to the amount of throttle when you use the thrust reversers to take pressure off the front gear.

Have recently ventured onto the Enigma server a couple of times (trying both Syria and Caucuses). It's legitimately terrifying. Awesome experience, really intense. Am learning the Viggen on some safer servers for now, but I'll be back over there soon :-)

I love the somewhat raw nature that the controls and instruments in the Viggen behave in. Direct prints of the radar's reflectivity (no digital recognition), a small camera for the missile itself, the audible heat signature toning up and down as it picks up on the engines of a frogfoot...or those flares. Whoops! (AFAIK the logic modules and the cockpit interface off to the right are just as raw and have a bit of a steep learning curve)

fyi, this variant of the viggen a ground striker, the viggen itself was a multirole platform, JAS stands for *Jakt, Attack, Spaning* (Hunt, Attack, Recon)

Hey @Drewski, great video as always. Just out of curiosity what multiplayer settings do you run to get the smooth performance that you seem to always have in DCS? The Enigma cold war server runs great for me when it reboots but after that my fps slowly drops over time. Not sure if you would be able to make video going over those settings.

Enjoyed watching this video good stuff ! It’s been awhile since I’ve been on Egnimas server with the F5 I may get the Viggen after watching this. I wonder if it’s got any better for VR users after the MT update. Soon to check it out. Earned a sub on this one 👍🏻

I play 2D but Enigma’s is the only place I haven’t seen meaningful gains from MT. You get a boost at altitude, but it’s rare fighting like that ever happens on ECW.
