“Why do you want to sign Zidane when we have Tim Sherwood?” - whether there is any truth in this quote from former Blackburn Rovers owner Jack Walker, it certainly isn’t all myth.
This is the story of how following Blackburn Rovers Premiership winning season, owner Jack Walker turned down the opportunity to sign French pair Christophe Duggary and Zinedine Zidane.

This could've changed the trajectory of European soccer in the same way Neymar's move to PSG did. Even as a Newcastle lad, it's hard to imagine Shearer leaving Rovers when he could've had Zidane feeding him passes.

I know it might be hard to believe but according to their youth coaches, Zidane and Dugarry were of a similar level technique-wise. They also admitted they couldn't imagine that Zidane would ever reach such an unbelievable level. Except that Zidane knew what he wanted, he was determined and hardworking, whilst on the other hand, Dugarry never gave a damn about football and was much more interested in drinking and partying.

Pitch invasion (by children trying to hug their favorite player/group of people at the end of the match,etc) has become somewhat of a nuisance in the recent months. My request to Tifo is to put out a video stating the situation of current invasions, the measures WC authorities have taken to address it and what action the Qatar govt./FIFA would take if any such incident takes place even on an individual level. If there are any adverse consequences to such a incident, many people planning to do so might not take the wrong step.

Most overrated player ever. Read Michael Cox's book Zonal Marking. From 10 years in Serie A and La Liga, the number of consistently good seasons Zinedine Zidane had is 2 at the most, and quite possibly 0.

That’s a bit inaccurate. The Farmers league tag only came about around 10 years ago and despite it been a pre internet era, all my friends were aware of how good Zidane was back then. I’d imagine the Blackburn scouts were clued up too.

Anyone who laughs at the quote is a bit of a fool who doesn't understand context. Sherwood was Blackburn's Premier League Title winning captain. Zidane was a 23 year old unproven at a high level having only played in a weak French League. That's the equivalent of Arsenal in 2004 not wanting to replace Vieria with an untried player from France. Or Real Madrid not wanting to replace Ramos with an untried player from France. Or Barcelona not wanting to replace Puyol with an untried player from France. You get the idea. There's no prizes for getting the right answer with hindsight. 🤦‍♂️🥱😴
