This is the Knox review of the KTM 390 Adventure.
The KTM 390 Adventure is positioned and marketed as their entry level Adventure bike and designed to be accessible in all marketplaces around the world - in a life time of motorcycle adventure, this is where Adventure starts!
Believe it or not, we were super looking forward to this test, lightweight and capable adventure bikes are where it’s at in our opinion and so much of the 390 Adventure looked just about right!
In this test, we put the little 390 adventure right through its paces on the beautiful but naggery Lake District passes and off road on the 390 adventure on some of the roughest legal trails we have too. Did it live up to our expectations? Absolutely, we loved it! You can read the full review here -

What about low end torque, where you do no get traction or need to dig it out of snow, mud, slush, gravels... Like you find in the high mountains.

I test rode one (and bought it) and it feels like a KTM. I used to own a 1290 super adventure (first gen) and this seems like a way more manageable version of that. I think it's impressive they made this bike feel like a much more expensive bike. I quit buying big/fast bikes after many years and many miles. I enjoy lighter bikes more, weird I know. So for me this is not a beginners bike, it's an ideal bike. Power is nice, but not at the cost of useability or the feeling of control over the bike. I totally understand the craving for a 160hp beast....but for me, not anymore.

@@secondaryinbox7548 : it's more like realizing what the advantages and drawbacks are of all types of bikes after many years of riding. I have owned more than 40 bikes, all kinds. So I know what I like and what not. Different for everyone I think.

@@keesketsers5866 Yes. The only time I will probably consider adding to my 390 Duke is for a battery powered Moto that can get at least 200 miles on a charge.

OK so this is my hands down favorite KTM 390 A review, probably because it reflects my opinion of the bike 100%. I'm from the USA and have about 10,000 miles on it. If I had to own only one bike this would be it. I've ridden a couple of BDRs (Backcountry Discovery Routes) with it and it performed flawlessly. Thank you for this wonderful video!

Great review! I have a 390 Adventure and absolutely love it. Great little bike that is super capable off road and carves up the twisties with the right 50/50 tires.

I've ridden mine off road a lot and as a result dropped it a few times - the upgraded hand guards and levers are worth the investment along with the skid-plate. But a solid bike all in all.

it baffles me that this bike comes without the crash bars in other markets. i've layed this bike down probably 5 times off-road and the bars completely save it from any real damage. i love my adv390, its a great way to just shut out the world and have some fun again

KTM: my favourite make. I have a Duke 390, so I know what you mean about it feeling bigger than a 373. I couldn't believe how quick it felt first time on it.

Great video! I taught my wife to ride last year and we got a 390 last October. She is absolutely loving it! A great beginner motorcycle that an experienced rider won't be disappointed with KTM nailed it.

Loved the video! Going through Forums and FB groups, the replies lead me to believe that spoked wheel version is the one to buy. But I love the Tubeless tires! So leaning towards cast wheels. I'm happy to see you could do all of the trails in the video on cast wheels. Hopefully my decision to go cast for light offroading is right!

I got a bike last year and I just have been severely let down. So I have spent over a year making sure what I get next is right. And there is no doubt that for a smaller bike in this price range there is absolutely nothing to even compare this bike to. Now if I can find one near me I’ll be a happy guy.

Love this review 🤗 partly because of the scenery and the commentary. I'm from England but moved to Oz in 2006. Only now at nearly 60 I decided to learn to ride a motorbike! 😅 I passed couple of months ago and because of budget got myself a KTM Duke 200 and put great crossover tyres on her so I can ride through the National Park where I work. When money flowing I'm really keen on this 390 adventure 😉👍🤗

I own the 390A and I can't disagree with anything said here. With 12,000km on mine I have had zero reliability issues. Not sure why I find the bike so appealing to ride, but it has great balance, it's quite lightweight and nimble. I could use 2" longer front forks, either that or a 21" front wheel, but that would effect its on-road handling which is superb for an ADV bike. Still, there's a heck of a sport-tourer downhill tilt on the bike that can get annoying on long hauls. Engine is so impressive, pulls like a 550cc in its rev range. I put a Seat Concepts seat on mine with an air pad, now it's quite comfortable on longer hauls. I also installed handlebar risers for a more upright position. Survives really well on the super-highways, loves the twisties, and will easily blow away larger ADVs on trails with sheer nimbleness. Off road you have to disconnect the TC like you say because it just gets in the way. It's not a dual sport but it is capable within limits.

I ALMOST felt sorry I bought the 300 CRF Rally, but putting it simple it's a far better bike offroad with it's 21/18 inch tires and ground clearance. Onroad it fells behind but hey, compromises are everywhere :)

What a video! Beautiful shots and a great rider. 390 is the way to go (and crf300l for places with less roads like central Asia). Big CC "adventure bikes" are for old people who think thru conformist lenses, they are like SUV, only riden on pavement on Sundays lol, real adventure requires lighter bikes

Coming from a long dirt bike riding background and current owner of a KTM 300, the stand-up riding position on the 390 is downright scary. And at 5’5” I’m not tall but I feel like I’m going to be pitched over the bars. The cockpit on the 390 needs to be opened up: pegs lower, flat, and set back. Bars taller and with a little less sweep. Other than that and adding some additional off-road protection, everything you said about the bike is absolutely true. I bought a ‘23-no test ride-and still can’t get over how capable and fun this bike is. My bigger bikes are collecting dust! Fantastic production and scenery in your video. Keep up the good work!

Long distance, that big single has a habit of vibrating the occasional bolt coming loose. Every few hundred miles, it's worth going over the bike to make sure everything's tight. Owned both a 390 Duke, and now the Adventure, and I've found the same issue on both. Otherwise, it's been an amazing machine to play around on. Travels well, longest trip was 800 miles in 2 days, never complained once, though consider a softer seat.

Great vid. You sure can handle that 390! Wish I could handle mine like that. I usually find though the longer I'm in on the saddle for a days riding i get a lot more confident doh! I'm was toying with the idea of chit out for a more dirt oriented bike like the husky 701 or ktm 690, but I think now I will persist with it for another year or two and see if I can unlock its full potential like you have done.

Thanks Owen. Its a really great bike, and i think its pretty confidence inspiring. The Husqvarna 701 enduro (which we own), is a bit of a handful, yes ultimately more capable than the 390 off road, but 1/2 of my ownership of it, I've been a bit intimidated by it as its tall, very powerful and can put you on your backside in a flash! Its only now Im starting to ride the 701 better, but not maximising it yet. The 390 is a lot softer and easier to ride. Just leave it in 1st gear off road, rev the crap out of it and build your confidence up. I think its a brilliant bike for doing that... you'll be the master of it soon enough! Thx Aaron, good advice. Going to get a set of knobbys for it, which I think will help a lot with grip in gravel and sand. Would love you to do a follow-up video sometime!

Wonderful review, excellent filmed, text and landscapes, sincere congrats. I fully share your opinions, excellent motorcycle, I have a KTM 390 Adv. 2022 model. Since June 2022, I have already done more than 10.000 Kilometers, the longest trip in summer from Romania to Italy, over 4.500 kilometers, with girlfriend as passanger. Not even the smallest issue with it, I love a lot this bike, brings me lot of joy when riding it. Previously, I rode a KTM 690 adventure and a KTM LC4 400. Great bikes, but the 390 Adv is my favourite... :)

Thank you for this review. Currently riding a Himalayan, which I love but it does leave me wanting a bit more in power. Gained an interest in rally racing and the 390 seems like a great all around package for dabbling in a bit of everything.

Great video and review! Looking forward to riding it. I also found the 'Adventurous Nepal Tour' by Dream Chaser on 390 adventure to be fascinating in terms of the really rough terrain it could handle.

Watching after an year of its launch. Engine has been much smoother in new models. However, value for money still this bike is and is feature loaded. At 3:17 that bee 🐝 sounded like a inline 4 flyby 😃

Just came across this video on ktm 390 as love adventure bikes but a lot Seem too bike for me (I'm 5"8 ) this video great!! Always been skeptical on Ktm as herd build quality ect, I have a honda 1000r neo cafe but would love a everyday bike & light off road could this be the one??

Beautiful, beautiful video! Is it Aaron doing the action shots on the dirt?! Great riding! Cool apparel, too. In my brief time with the 390, I found it to be really good on the tarmac (for a thumper). On the dirt? It broke my left arm! You might say that lack of talent did that, but I say poteito, potahto :)

Coming back after owning this bike for around 6 months now, and I think this review has really stood the test of time. Still very much agree with all the observations, and I think the more I ride it the overall impressions I have of its capability only increase. The "we just rode it" is really the ethos of a bike like this, as you can get caught up in the specs and the theoretical shortcomings, but really once you start pushing to its assumed limits it actually behaves really well, especially off-road. The suspension is great, for what it is. The standing position is fine, for when you need to stand. The power delivery is predictable and adequate in the majority of situations. It's well put together, and some basic looking-after is enough to keep it looking basically new for a long time. For the price you pay, oof, what a bargain. No doubt I'll still move on at some point, but really there's nothing to regret about owning one.

Great video! I am thinking of getting the same bike, but it looks like I definitely need to come up and explore, those dirt tracks look awesome! Do you have a map or information of where they are?
