I was born in Toronto 84 yrs ago and spent every summer and a few winters up at Wasaga Beach until I was 21yrs. I thought all beaches had very fine, WHITE sand with no rocks,sea weed, and were over 11 miles long. Boy was I spoiled and in for a giant surprise.

We live in Osoyoos BC just 2 miles from the US border. It is desert climate but we also have Lake Osoyoos the warmest lake in Canada. We are at the southern tip of the Okanagan ( O-Kan -aw-gun ) Valley. Population 5500 and great people. Curling in the winter and golfing by March/April. Very little rain or snow and many Prairie People come here for the winter months. Canada Day fireworks brings 20,000 tourists to Osoyoos July 1. We love living here. Come visit our friendly town !

Good options mentioned. I'm thinking about moving out of BC for retirement. Starting to have too many issues here: High housing costs, family doctor shortage, wildfire problems, ferry delays, high cost of living, etc. Nice scenery when the smoke clears.

Halifax, Nova Scotia is where I live and it is indeed a beautiful city, Norm and Tina. I remember seeing a video of your visit here and touring the Halifax waterfront, etc. I live in the Northend Halifax (around Hydrostone area) and the northend has become a very sought after area and lots of condos, etc., and only minutes to downtown. Norm, I was happy to hear you say Halifax, Canada was one of your favorite cities. Hope you both return soon!

I was in Halifax last June and fell in LOVE with the city ❤. When I got home I said to my partner we gotta move there it's fabulous! He said no. Well then we gotta visit so you can see for yourself!

I'm probably not going to retire in Canada, because I'm American, and also my kids would probably live in the US, but just want to say that for a trip I was really surprised with Victoria. We were just there, this long weekend, and it's really cute, and more to do then I had thought with how small it is. Hadn't been in Canada still, just Vancouver and Victoria, which are close to us (we're from Seattle). Thanks for introducing me to places I haven't been in yet!

I have always enjoyed your videos. We are of the same mind. We decided to go on a river cruise this past May and we enjoyed it so much. Always something we wanted to do. We love cruising and next week we are taking a Canada/New England cruise, another thing off our wish list. This will be a our first ocean cruise since Covid. But the river cruise was a big one on our list, and we feel blessed that we did these two trips in our 50th year of marriage.

Our daughter moved to Saint John NB. It is worth going to. The down town is being rejuvenated. Nice restaurants and on the ocean.

I have been to more than half of these places and while they are nice, property is expensive. Canmore is expensive and here are a lot of smaller towns in Alberta that are way cheaper and nice places to retire to without the tourists :) One place you forgot to mention to retire to is to bed which you can do anytime you want to or get up when you want to when you are retired I recently saw a cartoon retirement card showing an alarm clock for retirees. The clock displays "Go back to sleep or get up! Entirely up to you!

Born and raised in Victoria here so completely agree. A cruise ship stop is definitely not enough. Victoria gets much less rain as it’s on the leeward side of the island. It rains much more on the west coast of Vancouver Island and again in the lower mainland. You must visit the Okanagan. It’s Canada’s Napa Valley. I just returned from a first time visit to Stratford. It’s worthy of your list…not too small, not too big. By Victoria Island, you do mean Vancouver Island?

Nova Scotia is IMO the best value-climate proposition. Halifax & area (including Mahone Bay) if you want big city perks, but the Annapolis Valley for a more rural feel (& still close enough to HFX). I ended up in Cape Breton-a bit more remote, but no regrets. Only place I could afford an "estate" with my own private beach & forest :-)

Exactly what were doing. Were in the final stages of building our retirement home 30 minutes outside of Halifax. Ontario for us has just become too expensive housing wise to downsize so we chose Nova Scotia. It's lovely there and still affordable by Ontario standards

Thank you for the suggestions. Please consider doing a video on retirement places that are safe but lower cost for seniors that are in a lower income bracket. Say around 40 - 45 k a year. Thank you. ❤

We retired last year and moved close to Wasaga Beach. We love it here! The beach is so nice and we have Collingwood and Blue Mountain close by - lots of amenities, shopping and services. We do spend the winter in Florida to escape the cold 🙂

Hello Tina and Norm, Another great video! Canada has been on top list of best countries to live. We got Canadian immigration 23 years ago and stayed in Wingham, ON after 'Landing', but got scared of the winter there. Unfortunately, surrendered my immigration after a while, but have been traveling to Canada though.

We’re From Manitoba and plan to retire right here in our home province. We have no desire to live in a city, but there are so many nice small towns where prices are far less and still an easy drive to a city for shopping and health services. For anyone travelling through Manitoba, you need to get off the #1 highway to see what the province has to offer. Yes, we have some cold winters, but we love the 4 seasons. ☕️🇨🇦☕️

Victoria is a nice place to visit as a tourist but utterly boring within days. Squamish is way too hot in the summer. Just my five cents...lol. I loved Quebec City...gorgeous and classy.

I was born in Vancouver and moved to SW Ontario in 1986 with my husband. It was meant to be a temporary move to find work, work for a few years and return to BC. 37 years later I am still in Ontario. I love and miss my home town, but have a lot of friends, daughter and granddaughter here, so no plans to move back. I have the best of both worlds, as I visit friends and family in BC at least once per year and don't have to deal with the high cost of living there year round.

Another great city is Calgary, Alberta. It’s on one of the best places to live in the world. Easy to navigate, close to the mountains. We don’t live there but we go there yearly. Lots to do.

I live near Niagara on the lake and agree it is beautiful, but very touristy, with no shopping for groceries. It is expensive. It is also on Lake Ontario, miles from Buffalo which is on Lake Erie. Niagara Falls New York is very close. Another great video.

Agree! Raised in the old town core of Niagara-on-the-Lake with family still there. Anymore, it’s expensive and overrun with tourists. Sadly, the original charm and quaintness of the town has been exploited and destroyed.

A lovely trip around Canada....I looked most of the places up on the map. I do think if one is going to re-establish, don't wait till retirement but go 3-4 years before so you can settle in and make friends, get familiar with your new surroundings. Happy Wednesday. Disappointed the very lovely Prince Edward Island was not on the list. Surrounded by water with many lovely beaches the scenery is spectacular! Also housing prices for very nice homes are very reasonable and the seafood is second to none. . I know you can’t name them all but this Island is a little piece of paradise which I am lucky to call home. Have you been here?

Moved to Victoria 24 years ago for work so for Canada I think I will retire here. Yes, the winters can be rainy and overcast but our summers are very dry these days. My dilemma will be where to spend 5-6 months in the winter. Likely Mexico where I have been lots through the years. I wish Thailand was closer and not so hot! a few more years to work it out.

Most likely f the cities you mentioned are very expensive! Beautiful but pricey! We did a road trip through the maritimes and drove into Mahone Bay. As we crossed over the bridge, in late September, we saw numerous clown heads on the bridge railing…really weird. After a few photos of those we drove into town….there were themed scarecrows everywhere! So cool. Apparently there’s a scarecrow festival there every year, super fun. Beautiful town. Loved living in Squamish, but that was 37 years ago, our son was born there. Too pricey for us now but everything is so close! We ended up in Kamloops. Lots of lakes, rivers, hot summers, mountain biking, hiking, and a great ski hill to pass the cold winters away. We also have an airport, that’s important.very, very important!

All the mentioned cities have its charm and beauty. They are all good places to enjoy retirement. Personally, I will likely stay in TO/Windsor for the fact that I needed to be close to international airports, especially US airports as air fares are usually cheaper. I'd to spend 1/2 year out of Canada during retirement.

Hi Norm and Tina: I like Waterloo Region. Drive a few minutes and you can be in the country. Drayton Theatre, Center In the Square for the symphony and other concerts, Waterloo Market, Jazz Festival, Fergus Highland Games, Kitchener Blues Festival, Stratford Festival, Niagara On The Lake.. Close to Pearson for flights. Central to everything including some of the Great Lakes. Anywhere but Toronto. Cheers

Great video! There are many options for living in Canada. One thing to keep in mind is the ongoing shortage of doctors. I would suggest for anyone looking to move to a province to research the availability prior to deciding where to move. The Okanagan region is beautiful and I highly recommend that you visit that area at some point.

BC is lovely, we recently returned from Nanaimo and would love to live there, however, finding a family doctor is very challenging for us seniors, even worse than the situation in Ontario. We love Ottawa and can walk to our family doctor, so staying put here.

I am in Victoria 😂 My family Dr sent me a letter, saying that I would not be her customer any longer. Because I don't Go often. So here I live with No Dr, I guess if I need a Dr I go to my politician (for help)

I moved to Victoria at the end of my career in order to retire here. It is expensive to buy housing but there is a great bike network which I use to commute to work year round. I've been fortunate to buy a modest townhouse where I can walk into town and to the sea. I've been here 7 years now and really enjoy it. I've lived in Montreal, Toronto, London, Sherbrooke, Sudbury and Windsor. I miss Montreal but could not do the slushy spring thing again.

Fredericton is a great city. I currently live in Newfoundland but I bought property in N.B. 20 years ago, near Fredericton. Will be leaving Newfoundland and retiring to NB next year...it is so nice in NB

Hey guys. Great video. I moved to BC from Toronto in 1989. I’ve lived in Victoria since 1993, and was lucky in that housing prices were very reasonable. If you’re thinking of moving here bring lots of cash, because housing costs are very high, as are rents as well as the rental supply. That being said, I’m here forever and wouldn’t think of living anywhere else. About all that winter rain? We are in a rain shadow and get far less than you think, especially compared to Vancouver or Seattle. Cheers.

Victoria is lovely but housing is very high and walk in medical clinics are closing, one after another. I can't get a family doctor and have been on a wait list for a nurse practictioner for 3 years now. The doctor shortage is extreme here and the hospital has just announced they are closing another operating theatre.

I've lived in British Columbia my whole life, and when I retire I can't wait to leave. It rains 8 months of the year, and a one decent one bedroom 750sq ft. condo costs $600,000. There is no cheap place to live in British Columbia.

My daughter and grandchildren live in Wasaga Beach, a short drive to Collingwood much larger center (excellent hospital, shops etc). I would love to relocate there from Paris Ontario to be closer to them.

Victoria BC, on Vancouver Island (not Victoria Island) has alot of retirees here. It's an amazing place to live, but the cost of housing and everything else makes it very hard to live for those on pension income. Average home price in Victoria is $1.3 million. No rent controlled apartment buildings here. The weather and quality of life is what draws people to the West Coast of Canada. Can't imagine living anywhere else. If you are in Victoria again would love to have you both over for tea!

I have traveled extensively in Canada and will be in Calgary and then Banff starting mid-September. I did look into retirement from the US to Canada once and it is quite complicated and challenging. If I had to pick a location it would be some part of Nova Scotia or Prince Edward Island.

I've done the opposite. Canadian wanting to retire to the U.S. (Florida). I'd be able to purchase a 4 bedroom house cash deal, will have a decent pension and retirement savings, and getting a green card is a incredibly complicated process, and it may not even happen.

@@tomfields3682 Legally, I could only stay for 6 months and then have to come back to Canada. If I was working or retired, I would still need a Permanent Residency Green Card. And just buying a house is not a good enough reason to get one. I've looked into this and got this info from several sources.

Unless you have lots of money, Victoria and Vancouver have very high cost of living. BC stands for Bring Cash. However it have beautiful landscape, great food scene & best weather condition among all the Canadian cities.

The well kept secret of Fredericton is out sadly. Home prices have nearly doubled since covid. Rents have also nearly doubled. What once cost 250k is now 450 to 500k. But it is a nice slow paced quiet place to live and raise kids. Beautiful in summer, cold in winter like most of the country.

You guys should have a look at Essex county in Ontario. The climate is the same as Niagara area (agricultural zone 1.. growing season is about a month longer than Peterborough) and there are many wineries around here as well. Leamington is known as the tomato capital of Canada for that reason as well as having Point Pelee National park which also has the southernmost point in Canada. Housing prices here are quite reasonable when compared to most other locations in Ontario and the people are truly lovely. Its an ideal place for retirees to consider when planning their retirement. Should there be a need for big city amenities Windsor is only 45 minutes away.

Since you have rent control, it does make sense to rent. It’s not such a popular concept in places I want to live here in the USA. We are on the Olympic Peninsula, just across from Victoria in Sunny Sequim (aka the Blue Hole or the Rain Shadow) and it’s beautiful here, but everyone complains about housing costs (renting or buying).

Honestly,when my daughter goes to university,my wife and I will never spend another winter in Canada. Actually,we are seriously considering just leaving Canada permanently. It’s just expensive to live here and the things that a lot of Canadians enjoy bragging about …like “free” healthcare etc. are actually just not all that they’re cracked up to be. Just my opinion of course.😬 love your channel👍

I would put Montreal on the list, if you're going to include Quebec City. It's more cosmopolitan, great restaurants, pubs, events, festivals, parks, the St Lawrence river, skiing close by, and truly bilingual. Honestly, if you are retired and not working, the language is not an issue. There are anglophone neighbourhoods and services are available in English. Housing is much more affordable. Income tax, not so much, highest in Canada. But, you can still afford to go to a hockey game... Go Habs Go!

Fredericton would not be my choice of a place to retire in New Brunswick. I spent my professional career there and other than being relatively cheap there really isn't much there. If I was going to retire in New Brunswick I would choose Saint Andrews. It is a small town on the Bay of Fundy and is really beautiful. If you want city amenities you can be in Fredericton or Saint John within 2 hours from Saint Andrews. There are a lot of small ocean front towns in Nova Scotia within an hour of Halifax. Halifax itself would be a good choice. It is a nice small city with everything you could want in a city except the people. Incidentally the final "e" in Mahone Bay is silent. The Okanagan in BC is a very nice place, but it is quite hot there in summer and cold in winter (for southern BC). It is a great place if you like the outdoors since it is close to the BC rocky mountain national parks and also only about four hours from Vancouver. Kelowna is a nice small city right on Okanagan Lake. A place I considered retiring to is Pinawa, Manitoba. It is a former company town (Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd.) that is on a lake about 1.5 hours NE of Winnipeg. It has good facilities (hospital etc.) and is in a very pretty location with fantastic cross country skiing and lots of good summer hikes in local provincial parks. Yes, being in Manitoba is does get a little chilly in winter, but it never got much below -40C when I lived there. Anything you could want from a city is available in Winnipeg, plus you can escape the cold weather in winter by driving down to Minnesota.

Hey guys. As a born and bread prairie boy, my heart is broken. That no places in the central prairie provinces made the list. Lol, jk. I don't even want to spend my retirement here, so why would anyone else. It's frigid. Having said that, my wife and I were recently in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, and it's shocking how much real estate costs are going up. Most of the buyers seem to be people from Toronto or other high priced cities who are selling their homes, and buying homes in smaller Maritime provinces because of the cost savings. Then dumping lots of money into them, and making it home and still coming out far ahead. I would do it if I could, but just not in that position. Either way, I'm curious if this is happening widely across other smaller towns in the Maritimes? Great video as always. Take care.

Youse guys totally missed Tuktoyaktuk, Gateway to the NW Passage. With global warming, they must be a cruise ship stop by now and then there's that new all weather road (first road to the Arctic!) replacing the seasonal-only ice road.... LoL Seriously, I'm noticing your list is heavy on great tourist destinations and I took notes on those you list between Georgian Bay and the Maritimes. All these decades living just across the Niagara border and so many great Canadian places still unvisited.

Nancy the whole stock photography is slowly imploding, commissions being reduced to a point, is it worth it. The only ones doing something is Alamy and Adobe Stock. Good luck!

Wasaga Beach was at one time one of the FASTEST growing towns in all of Canada. How do I know.?. I LIVE THERE! But, the deals are long. long, gone. The house I have there (Not my principal residence) was purchased for $242,000 in Feb. 2013!! It is 2,163 sq feet with a still unfinished basement. That same home now goes for about $825,000 !!

I then take those $1 Million+ in proceeds and use that to fund an EB-5 Investment VISA. By starting a new small biz i the US that employs US citizens, I then put myself on a path to US Permanent Residency and Citizenship! That is goal I have now set for myself in order to get out of here. Mick Jaggers's Son can go fuddle himself! Cheers. 😜

The problem is Medicare. It is not covered in Canada. You would need to live near a US hospital or health facility. The other problem is only Canadians can purchase a home in Canada.

Retiring in Florida is my intent. Canada has become too expensive for me. Canada is beautiful, but it's changed a lot. The cities are really a mess these days. Niagara on the lake is gorgeous but very very expensive.

Florida is no longer affordable. The prices tripped.y house is now 600k and I bought it for 230k 9 years ago. Any new constructions a bad quality but even more expensive. 😢😢😢

As a Yank, retired and currently in Seattle, I would love to relocate to Langley or Abbotsford, even Kelowna or Nelson, B.C. Apparently an American staying six months on/off a year in a long-term rental is strongly frowned upon. And even with a maternal grandmother being born in Victoria and paternal grandfather born in Toronto, applying for citizenship is out of the question. So I'll just have to continue to enjoy visiting.

@@bluetocop Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear. As an American, I can visit for up to six months in a twelve month period, then leave for six months before another six month stay. They frown upon a long-term lease agreement, spending six months in Canada and six months somewhere else. Apparently they don't allow this arrangement.

Watching from Vancouver.....little help on the pronunciation of Okanagan: OAK - a - noggin. Maybe you can help me with Kapuskasing or Roncesvalles in return 🤔. And yes, house prices are crazy, rents are crazy and that is if you can actually find somewhere to rent. Sad to see that this appears to be a trend in many countries these days and is particularly hard on the younger generations. I am fortunate to live in a traditionally working class area of Vancouver where even the panhandlers and bin divers are friendly!

Just came through the Okanogan, Its AMAZING,, but sadly the fires were frightening,,, very grey in winter, Sadly Ontario is VERY expensive and has WINTER,,,I believe Alberta is the cheapest Province for Retirees , I have lived there also,, ,, but sadly over run with people leaving Ontario for cheaper homes,,, they experiencing a huge housing shortage,,, My apologies for sounding negative , however with our paltry Canadian dollar our choices are limited. Mahone bay is JUST beautiful,, but high taxes,,, Keep well!
