Hey gang, as I'm sure everyone noticed we were part of a small percentage of channels affected by a bug on KZfaq's end that placed an excessive amount of mid-roll ads on our videos and took away our ability to edit our ad settings at the same time. It took a couple of months to regain access to our settings, but we finally made it. This video should only have 1-2 mid-rolls and we will start working on removing them from past videos ASAP but we're a small team and it will take a while. Thank you so much for your patience and support! -Mikey and Teara

I would have been ok with a bunch of mid rolls but I can't forgive you for showing that Ecto Cooler box. My inner child is thirsty... ok two things I can't forgive, making me think that sentence and the box. 🤔 mostly the sentence now though.

@@Sensei_BigJoe I made a recipe for Ecto Cooler for Halloween this year. It's stupid easy and, if memory serves, just about spot on. However, it will immediately give you diabetes. I made it just to mix with Crystal Head Vodka and drink it out of my giant, slime covered, "No Ghosts" emblazoned mug. Twas a good night... Anyway, the moral of the story is FORCE YOUR CHILDHOOD BACK INTO EXISTENCE INSTEAD OF WAITING FOR CORPORATE AMERICA TO DECIDE TO EXPLOIT AND PROFIT FROM YOUR NOSTALGIA DRIVEN CONSUMERISM! You can do it.

At my job I quote this all the time to my teammates, to my employees and managers alike when trying to explain how empowered they are to make decisions and try new things and most importantly, TO ASK QUESTIONS. I use "Nobody Knows What They're Doing" as a positive, as a way to pull back the curtain on how we're all the same, how we're all equally in the dark and can find greatness just by admitting to ourselves and each other that we're all nervous, scared, shooting blindly all day and we're all just people, no matter what our station in life is.

"Mario shaped a lot of lives. The 80's were a tough time to grow up as a kid, and kids needed an escape sometimes." Damn...wasn't prepared to get that emotional near the end of this. Born in 1980, childhood of divorce who only had a NES/SNES at my dad's house (conveniently bought when visitations started). All of my Nintendo memories are tied into weekend visitations, and have a VERY specific memory of going to get SMB3 on my 10th birthday. Great video Mikey. This was pretty much the kind of story-telling I felt High Score was lacking.

When I was having the worst mental health episode of my life a few years ago, I had just buried my mother, my father and my brother, nearly lost my wife to sickness, lost my business and car and cat and my house was in foreclosure, I had a period where I would just sit on the couch, incapable of function for days at a time, sometimes drunk, sometimes wishing I could afford to get drunk, or even have a meal, Movies with Mikey was one one of the things I binged over and over because it was positive, it was appreciative, it wasn't harsh or critical, it praises the weird connections in life and the great achievements and art that people have defied odds to achieve. I've started over, have a new life and a new career and new opportunities and have recovered a lot, but still have shit days. Today was a shit day so it felt like getting a hug when I needed it to see a new video from Mikey on my feed. So @FilmJoy, and everyone else who supports this channel, please don't ever stop and thank you.

I really didn't expect to learn anything new about Mario or Nintendo, but you've managed to dig super deep. I'm super surprized I've never heard about the push Miyamoto did to have the jump on the Up button and all that entails!
@jasonblalock4429
@jasonblalock4429 3 жыл бұрын
Same here. Although it does make me wonder, what feature was he planning that so desperately needed the B button? Hmm... well, the simplest explanation would just be that he wanted separate run and fire buttons. I'd guess that's it. And looking back, it was pretty rare for arcade/console games to double-up button functionality like they did. That too might have been an innovation!
@HellPe

I knew that Jump was originally mapped on Up, but I wonder why Miyamoto was so vehemently against a jump button, and what made him change his mind? I couldn't find more info outside of the classic Iwata Asks linked on the Mariowiki.

I, like a lot people, want to thank you for continually bringing joy into my life. Seriously. I have been dealing with some housing struggles the past few weeks and this series (and deep dive) really helped me get through it. So thank you Mikey and everybody who works on this channel for making this stuff.

Didn't expect to get glassy eyed at the end of a video about Mario. What your saying means a lot to me. Thanks for doing what you do.

You only covered Donkey Kong and the NES games? What about Mario's battle with Sonic? His jump to 3D? His cartoons and merchandise? His disastrous live action movie debut? I need more!!!!
