Tottenham haven't gone backwards they're 4th and had the same points this time last season. Tottenham fans believe they have gone backwards only because of their relative position to Arsenal. It's Arsenal who have gone forwards. Based on points and table positoin, tottenham are having a normal season by their standards, 4th and trophyless.

So Simons only argument to support Levy is that “Tottenham are progressing, just not as fast as they’d like”. We are currently in the worst trophy drought in our history. Not to mention he followed that up by saying “Tottenham have flatlined”. In what world is flatlining for 5 years = progress🤦‍♂️

@Sleepy 🐉 not true at all. The stadium debt is structured so the revenue generated pays for the debt and then some. We are the 9th richest club in the world. We spend some money, but recruitment has been beyond poor for 5+ years now.

@@jaedon7446 I think recruitment could have been better but its also hard to judge because we have two 'win now' managers that aren't that interested in developing players. also we might be in a bad trophy drought, but we're also in our most sustained run at the top end of the league for around 40 years, which is something we have to acknowledge and credit levy for. Spurs could easily be in villa, leeds, everton's position right now had we had a different person running things.

@@Masterful100 fans don’t pay the highest ticket prices in the world to watch “sustained top flight football”, fans want to watch the club win. Once you become an established “top” club you’re supposed to push on and win things to justify that status. Credit to him for getting us to where we are financially, but the fact we have gotten no closer to silverware over the last 20 years is an utter failure. We won the most FA cups prior to ENIC, now we’ve been completely eclipsed. If anything we have gone backwards in footballing status. As for the failed manager appointments, why bring in win now managers if you want to develop young players. Makes zero sense and that decision falls solely on Levy making it another failed manager appointment.

@@jaedon7446 up until poch left, we'd basically constantly progressed under ENIC. At that point we had the foundation to start really pushing for trophies as we'd firmly established ourselves in the big 6. It was either complete rebuild or try and bring in a proven winner. I don't blame levy for trying it, we all thought conte was a good appointment. But it hasn't worked, and I think he's aware of that and going back to 'project manager' targets and we go again. I think he also felt pressure while we still had kane, cos kane was leaving otherwise. It's not levy's fault we didn't win the prem when Leicester won it, nor is it his fault we were crap in the UCL final or that we got knocked out of the FA cup this year by Sheffield United. Poch never prioritised the domestic cups either when we had the team to win one.

@@Masterful100 I think we can blame him for bringing in a win now manager not once, but twice and then proceeding to not give him the tools to win now. I get it happening once, but twice? Had Levy been patient and backed Poch we could have won something. Look at Liverpool and Arsenal, when things got hard they stuck with their manager and built a real team. When things got hard with Poch we tried a different approach half heartedly. Things will not change unless the mentality of the club does. Currently the board cares more about profit over success. That’s why after another disappointing season, ticket prices will go up and we will watch the worst Tottenham team in possibly 10 years next season.

He sacked him because we'd been awful all season, and were 7th in the league. He knew if we won the final he wouldn't be able to sack him and the club was heavily reliant on finishing in top 4 to finance the stadium. So he took a calculated risk.

The question is simply, what does (should) success look like to Spurs fans? Top 4 was only possible because Arsenal and United fell off of a cliff in recent years. If you’ve got a fully firing City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and United, Spurs come 6th. 4th and ko stages in the cups is success for them. They just need to realise that. With teams like Brighton, Brentford and Newcastle coming through now aswel, that redefines what success is again. But for me, top 4 is more than success for them. 2 league cups in 30 years is what they had before btw.

i just wanna make this opinion clear, people say 3-4-3 is not good and too defensive. but i think if set up correctly with the correct wing backs (spurs doesn't have good enough wing backs), a 3-4-3 can be set up to be proactive and aggressive.

They'd be no worse than what ten hags united are. Getting smacked 7 nil at Liverpool and 6 at City is hardly anything to boast about. Ten hag has been handed the most expensively assembled team in premier league history, with the league's highest wage bill, with multiple champions league and world cup winners... and he's only ONE POINT above Conte's Spurs.

If Spurs had let Conte loose with the chequebook and let him throw out troublemakers the way Ten Hag has at United, they’d be flying. They got Conte and shackled him. Any new manager coming in needs to be given free licence to rip the club down and build it up the way Pep, Klopp and even Arteta have.

Nagelsmann sounds similar in character (and age) to Vincent Kompany. Although Kompany is 1 step behind Nagelsmann in his managerial career, I would say that his experience in the premier league might be worth just as much! I'd be very happy with either of these 2 COYS!

The only reason Tottenham could/would appeal to ANY elite manager would be that 60k stadium, guaranteed gate receipts, enough to pay an elite manager like Conte his wages. He already knew he wouldn't be winning anything at Tottenham, a club with a non-winning culture, that fails miserably with forward thinking investments. The only reason Antonio Conte, an elite manager with winning credentials and mentality would take a job like Tottenham is simple, for Conte, it was EASY MONEY! 💰🤑💷🪙💲💶💵💸

These big managers are only taking the job cause Daniel is willing to pay top wages for them. No transfer budget though! The entire thing is fake and a farce. Daniel levy looked at the best way to build a football club in north London. He looked eventually at arsenal and has sought to replicate what has gone on over there. Stadium used the same architect firm to build a stadium that bears more than passing resemblance to the emirates. Spent £1.2bn on having a couple of hundred more seats than arsenal. The training ground was created almost unilaterally to the specifications that London Colney was designed as. The main difference being the hotel addition which Arsenal declined to build. They changed their logo to the simplified stripped down version some 15 years after after arsenal did the same to theirs. Levy has attempted to have a tube station named after Tottenham Hotspur probably because of Herbert chapman doing the same in the 30s. Arsenal built an iconic partnership with Nike and when they left spurs had a great idea….. the fans have tried for years to take arsenal chants and taunts and somehow apply it back with a woeful degree of flatness. In fact the joint most successful manger spurs have had since George graham left arsenal in 1995 is George graham. The point there is in my humble opinion is that spurs have made great strides forward in modernising and becoming a modern football club. They’ve invested money (which isn’t the same as spending bearing in mind tottenham have got a bond for the stadium like ManU and have barely paid any of the training ground construction fees from training facility opened 10 years ago) but with all that investment they have managed to position themselves where arsenal were in 2007. I mean for ffs when arsenal were moving to the emirates the transfer business strategy was a marquee signing during the stadium paying era would be a maximum of £29m-£34m. Skip forward to spurs moving into their new ground almost twenty years later and levy said “there will be funds in place for a marquee signing every year, if needed, up to a realistic fee in the region of £35m”. Later that summer Mbappe went for £160m. Deep into their second billion of debt. And fifteen years behind arsenal. Ladies and gentlemen: Daniel levy.

Simon defending his chairman fwend. For the record we are in a false position. Not only will we not finish 4th but if it wasn’t for Chelsea and Liverpool having a poor season by their standards we would be even lower. So no, we are not comfortably sitting in 4th place. The teams in and around us have games in hand also, so although our position may look all rosey right now our position at the end of the season will give a real evaluation of where we are as a club.

61 trophies won by those managers BEFORE they were hired by Spurs, only ONE won at Spurs. It’s not the “wrong time” it’s a lack of structure around them. Jordon is just protecting his mate, the next Spurs manager will be there two years max and will be sacked with everyone blaming them and not the club structure

Lol. So mourinho is past it but he is producing at roma. Conte produced at inter and Chelsea but passed it now. Pocchetino the same issue. Harry redknapp produced wonders with teams like Portsmouth and even did good with spurs but there was a problem there. Glenn hoddle the same Lol. Yeah always the managers problem.

Keown's talking nonsense about Conte being the best hope. Our form after the WC was terrible, and we were all but dead and buried in the top 4 race. But a combo of Newcastle dropping some points and the excellent form (and better football) we found under Stellini has reignited the race. Conte comes back and we have 3 of our worst games this season (knocked out of FA Cup, UCL, and ship a draw against Soton when 2 up). The facts show that Conte has not been setting up the team in the most effective way of late.

Conte is always given bags of money and most of the players he wants. Doesn’t develop players and is tactically inept. Overated. How can Spurs honestly consider themself elite and a champions league regular when Eric Dier is still your first choice CB and have Zero creative midfielders when you have a player like Kane to supply.

I'm not a Tottenham fan. However, I very much respect the club they are. In relation to the final interview by Antonio Conte as Spurs manager, is it a little similar to the interview Ronaldo did about United just before he left? Whilst shocking when it happened, it galvanised the team and club onwards. Let's hope for Tottenham and their fans this proves a positive turning point for all concerned.

If Conte or Mourinho were top class managers their first priority would have been to sort the defence out which leaks goals for fun and NEITHER of them managed it despite being given funds...... Pochettino delivered CL football 3 seasons out of 4 including a final with NO funds cos it was being spent on the stadium..... Pochettino did an amazing job with what he had...

I don’t think it was necessarily the timing of the appointments more than it is the limitations of the managers. Jose is stubborn with personnel and that came through around November in his final season when tactically and through the players he continually chose it wasn’t working. His strategies had been found out but he was too stubborn to change it. Conte actually started out great and was great last season but for whatever reason stubbornly went into certain patterns with tactics and substitutions and refused to change them this season.

Both. Levy for not backing managers. Conte for being stubborn and non expansive with his tactics. I’m glad he’s gone and Hope levy brings in a more expressive manager as Tottenham can score goals and every top team right now plays attacking football not dinosaur tactics.

I agree with Martin. Conte's football may seem uninspired, but that's because Conte doesn't trust the players to win on their own. Does no one remember the days when Spurs were leaking goals like a sinking ship? Imagine the worst team in any league, now put Conte at the helm, is it his fault if they fail to win? He took Spurs to top four. That's an achievement imo.

How anyone saw any other outcome than this boggles my mind. Conte was always going to leave in acrimony. He's an ego maniac, competeting in an extremely competitive league, where at least 3 'elite' teams with 'elite' managers are going to be disappointed due to an unsuccessful season. Tottenham is by far the least of the 'elite', and thus will have poor results over a season, if you couple that with the pragmatic style of football they played, there was always going to be friction between fans/manager/board. truly I said these the instant he was hired, laughing my head of at my spurs mates who thought he would be the messiah

Agree with Simon. Levy has hired some world class managers and they have not produced the goods from these players. Impossible task really. What’s needed is a person who can motivate these players AND a tactical manager. I don’t think there is one single person who can do both, given the culture of failure to open the trophy cabinet.

The failure(s) at Spurs for me, rests solely at Levy's door. He has managed to "HIDE" over £100 million pounds of "so called" talent through loans etc who are on extortionate wages and have no real decent value. It is he (Levy) who sources/buys the players (hoping to uncover a "diamond" in the rough with the potential to make a huge transfer sum somewhere down the line) His arrogance when it comes to signing the players that a coach has ear marked to improve the team comes to the forefront, by totally disregarding those players and instead signing some "2nd rate chaff" which the manager has no option but to use at some course throughout the season. Simon Jordan needs to stop defending Levy when it comes to the team "going backwards". As it is he who is ultimately responsible as the chairman.

The FA Cup could've been for the taking this year since Spurs often beat City in one-offs and the other contenders are easy to beat with a good mentality, but Conte just had to instruct Stellini to put out a horrendous display against Sheffield. Conte had been given a 200 million war chest for players, he has simply been exposed that he cannot win without big stars. Mourinho was much closer to a trophy and I think he would've won it if Levy hadn't sacked him so that's totally different.

He got us to a UCL final for the first time in our history and a couple of genuine title challeneges. We bottled the title challeneges and UCL final but we were overachieving in the first place to even be there. Poch did not fail. And Jose was on the decline when he came to us. United fans couldn't wait for him to go

I have always maintained that top 4 is not a trophy in of itself; if you can make top 4, you should be winning an fa or league cup (or the league title itself).
