The people complaining about her being in so many movies are really dumb. First of all, all the films had different studios and directors, so it's not like Tyler Perry that uses the same black people every time. Second, you audition, and dozens or hundreds probably did, she just did a better job. Third, films are made years in advance, so a couple more are coming out, she is just a busy actress applying for roles, getting them, and then doing her job. it is a English movie, the screen writer probably does not speak German and especially when you don't know the other language alot of things can get lost in translation and bring down the quality of the writing. Which could also bring down the quality of the movie itself. And the movie is also American so I what I think they are trying to do is speak to modern America with faces they already know. For alot of the people this movie is trying to educate have already drawn a line between they're actions and the Nazi's. So having German actions could have indirectly created the image for a 'thats a German problem's mentality and the movie is trying to create a this is an American problem because our people are recreating the German tragedy.

Not knowing the beginning - where they were before, my guess is that they lived in a small town before moving. Unfortunately in that situation, it is very very easy for someone like this young girl to stand out and become the focus of the local police/authorities. By moving to Berlin, a big city, you remove yourself from those small town authorities who may be focused on you and yes gain a level of invisibility. Now, obviously it can’t always work but yah.
@LetYourLiteShine175 жыл бұрын
In order to understand you need to understand history. They didn't move to Berlin at the peak of WWII, this is pre-war, this trailer seems to show them moving there prior to the full impact of Hitler and his plan for the aryan race. Like "WildWestSamurai" pointed out, in the 1920s and early 1930s, Berlin was a very liberal city. It was diverse, it was rich in culture, it was a center for artists, musicians, writers, members of the homosexual community, and there were many different races living in harmony there. It is partly because of this diverse and liberal history that the atrocities of WWII came as such a shock to the world and to the German people as well, and it's a testament to how insidious Hilter's hatred and propaganda plan was. Simmering under this liberal facade was a deep and unexpressed anger that Hitler directed slowly and effectively against the Jewish, the Roman/Sinti, the Disabled, The Homosexual, Afro-Europeans & any sympathizers with those communities. The Nazi destruction of art and literature was intentional; it stripped away the rich cultural diversity of the German state and left it with nothing but fear and hatred of the "other" and it did this slowly. So slowly that the people did not even realize that they were being indoctrinated into a new culture of hatred, the natural progression of which was the genocide of all non-aryan persons. So here, they traveled to what they thought and hoped would be an inclusive community and it quickly became one of the most oppressive and exclusionary states. And as a side-bar, the history of the fall of liberal Germany, and the rise of Hitler in the 1930s can teach the United States a lot about our current political rhetoric from 2016-2018. Make no mistake, liberal states can and have fallen from grace in horrific and violent ways, and unless we learn from the pitfalls of our predecessors we may be doomed to repeat their errors, to the detriment of all.

Reader B I get that nazis shouldn't be viewed in a positive light, but I think that this type of movie is an exception. If the creators of the movie truly wanted to make nazis seem good, they wouldn't have made the rest of the characters racists and against the romance between the two characters.

This looks so good!!! As a biracial girl of german ancestry i really need to see this. Love truly does bind us all and its crazy that this movie has not been talked about more. Hitler literally took every biracial male and female and killed, some nazis even raped, tortured and did experiments on them. Its sick but i like this perspective of how love couldve changed a young nazi boys heart. Just bc he was a nazi did not make him evil, he was young and you must understand that they brainwashed everyone and forced young men like him to fight a war they did not truly know what or why they were fighting.
@OrdinisChao5 жыл бұрын
The Nazis did not have every biracial male and female killed. Many black and biracial people served in the Wehrmacht and even the SS. "For each of us, there is someone. For me, it's you". Avery powerful line from a Mother...to a Daughter. On another note, I believe she's found her trademark when it comes to acting and playing a character that has a Caucasian lover? Just as how you'd find Leonardo Dicaprio in a lot of Martin Scorsese films/movies and Johnny Depp: Tim Burton characters and just characters in which, he wears a costume...She's still young. So, she's got years to go when coming to placing more versatility in terms of roles on her resume.
@meckymeck25 жыл бұрын
Yeah but, that's not what I'd meant with my comment. II'd noticed how many comments spoke of the characters she plays having a Caucasian love interest so, I'd simply thought, maybe it's becoming like a trademark for her. Either way, she may not get to decide who's cast alongside her but, it's not like she doesn't know beforehand about the character she's auditioning for and what the role entails...
@iammilorex5 жыл бұрын
I think it's more about what's available than about her 'trademark', if you can even call it that. There're honestly not that many movies with black female leads, so I don't think she has much of a choice if she wants work.
@meckymeck25 жыл бұрын
@@iammilorex That is true. Still, she's becoming a hot commodity now so, yuh never know. I don't always think it's about what's available. Back to back to back she's starring in movies one after the other (As you are, Everything, Everything, The Darkest Minds, The Hate U Give). At 19, she's got time. Also, with her looks, she can play other roles with different ethnic backgrounds etc. As it stands though, her characters are being paired with Caucasian leads. For some, it's a pattern. N I'm sure her agent(if she has one) sees it when coming to roles that may work for her. To Directors n Producers, those things look good on resume. I'm just pointing out a possibility, yuh know?
