Where I've Been for the Last 2 Months | I Install New Windows in my Off Grid Log Cabin, Home Again!

After 6 weeks on the road exploring the sunny American south, I return to the cabin on the coldest day of the year. On the first warmer day, I take advantage of the winter thaw to replace the front windows on the cabin, from salvaged single pane wood fixed windows to new wood and double pane awning windows that will provide better insulation in the winter and more ventilation in the summer.
I talk about where I've been, show some footage of the American southwest and share some plans for upcoming projects.

This is still, and I am very sure my favorite Cabin Video. There is nothing phoney about how you build your Cabin. For me the Best parts are your Love of the Countryside, your close relationship with your Wife, your Daughters, how you take such good care of your dog. Wish I'd known, as you pass bye. Hi from Ohio. I hope you got to stop and smell the roses, I mean snowflakes. The USA is so vast. It has a little of everything, just choose you favorite. Myself I prefer 4 seasons and big trees. Plenty of water and not tooooo hot. Love your builds. I really enjoy the videos, talking and silence. Thanks for sharing.

The only thing bad about double-panned windows ism that I can no longer hear the rain! I suppose that is a good thing but at my age it’s the simple pleasures that I really do enjoy!

You can do it as they did in the old buildings. Have two single-panned windows during the cold weather and take away the inner pne during summer.

Hello from Alabama , i came to Canada for job training 23 years ago WOW has it been that long ago !! We stayed in Barrie Ont. for 3 months , could't get over the solid black Squirrel's there. I have seen them here in Alabama now as well Enjoy your videos.

I'm glad you and your wife came down to see the States. I live in the Panhandle of Texas. No trees unless planted around homes, no rivers that see water all the time, very arid country. Some snow, some ice, some negative tempertures. 3 digits all summer long, no rain in summer. Must water garden all the time and use shade cloth. If you drove on I 40 (old route 66) you came through the place going to New Mexico, Oklahoma, & Missouri. My relatives are from Mississippi and Louisiana. I always loved to go visit them because they had rain, rivers, lakes and trees. Humidity was a problem for me, something I have never been around. We have a humidifer in our home just to get moisture in the house. Hope you had a great time. I also lived in New Mexico around Albuquerque for many years and visit often, love the place. Mounains feel like home to me.

New windows look great. I have been concerned that you lost your way, and I feel that 6 week trip you took reset your thoughts. You look much better and you seemed clearer of thought. Saying that, I am interested in hearing and seeing your thoughts of what you mentioned at the end of the video. And that is the research of holistic remedies of vegetables and the reset of your garden. I personally am exploring this same thing and plan to reset my garden also. I’d like to hear about your and your wife’s research on a healthier lifestyle regarding the garden. Welcome back Shawn.

So glad you were able to travel in the states a bit. Next time try it in May…the weather is usually good about everywhere then. I thoroughly enjoy all your videos and agree that we all need to learn more on how to survive. Also agree it is going to get a lot worse before it gets better. Anyway keep it coming.
