I hope this reboot crash and burns. Buffy The Vampire Slayer doesn't need a reboot. The original is a pop-culture-classic that doesn't need to be touched. Hell, they can do a prequel!! Nikki Woods, the 1977 slayer who was killed by Spike on the train(if you don't remember, watch the episode fools for love from season 5). She was not only a black Slayer, but she was a struggle single mother of one child(principal Wood in season 7). let me break down the idea of the idea about Nikki Woods prequel: A black Slayer: diversity Struggling single mother: bring the show to 2020 Being the slayer at night: keeping the show's philosophy Monica Owusu-Breen the so-called showrunner of this reboot once said something along the lines of "we'll need to make this show more diversity and modern-day so we gonna need buffy to be black." Ah no, Buffy is white. so is willow, Xander, Giles, Oz, Cordy, Dawn, Angel, and Spike. She doesn't realize that if she reboots this show and deliberately changes the race of the main characters that's gonna piss off many fans. She has the opportunity to do a "diversity" Vampire slayer show with Nikki Woods, but she doesn't want too. She's using Buffy because she KNOWS Buffy as a gigantic fan base. Not only that but with everything that's going on she knows once she says "diversity" to the networks they'll latch on in a second even if the show is a piece of shit. So I'll say it again: Buffy The Vampire Slayer is a pop-culture classic that DOESN'T NEED TO BE TOUCHED

I don't care what color she is, i just want franchise back and I demand some of the old cast members be permanent characters or at least show up for star appearances . I was hoping the series would be called Slayers, since there is no longer one slayer but many. It would be cool if Wood's daughter becomes a slayer!!

I don't think Nikki was the slayer before Buffy as she died in the 80s and Buffy wasn't called until the mid 90s, but I'd be all for an 80s themed Nikki series.

Im all for an ethnic slayer, I just really want it to connect to the original series and not be a reboot. A majority of the people complaining about diversity were too young to even be hardcore fans of the original. Ive had arguments with some * trolls* that didnt even watch the show, yet they are vocal about it to the point they are gaining attention online. When the original creator of the show comes out with ideas to freshen up a series, we should shut up and let him do his thing and not bury the idea before we even know whats happening. But I do feel the original series needs to be remastered and the effects should be enhanced a bit.

I think one of the biggest hurdles from rebooting Buffy is the idea that, post series finale, all potential Slayers have been activated. In Season 8, we see in the comics who this fundamentally changes the world, basically making the secret mystical world Buffy operated in for seven years very, very public. It'd be interesting to see the main character in the new Buffy show as, say, the daughter of one of those Slayers, maybe even Rona if they wanted to have a direct tie back to the original series; and what it would then look like to see a girl that was raised by one of these women with extremely violent lives, and the generational repercussions of that trauma. IDK. A lot of really interesting places a Buffy continuation could take that I'm not smart enough to verbalize.

Im all for a new character but Buffy is Buffy. I dont want to see a new Buffy. White. black or vulcan I dont want it. Continue the story that's been told dont retell the same story with a new Buffy.

For what it’s worth, this is at least the third time a BUFFY reboot or remake has been announced and then went silent. Around 2009 I think there was talk of a movie that would actually feature Gellar and a new slayer, and then a couple years later after that had fizzled out, I remember an article in Entertainment Weekly announcing a NEW film remake spearheaded by the Kuzuis, who made the original film and technically own the rights to BUFFY. But then THAT one fizzled out. This one in 2018 was the first time Joss Whedon was said to have been involved, so it’s really the first time I was ever excited and also thought there was a good chance of it moving forward. Whether this one goes through or not, I still think it is only a matter of time before we return to the world of Buffy on screen somehow. I wrote an article for my high school paper 10 years ago saying exactly that and I still stand by it. I think Buffy has Star Trek potential. 50 years after that show aired, every episode is still canon, and countless spin off series have been made over the decades that ALL take place in the same universe. I think the Buffy animated series would’ve happened if they had pitched it later and not so quickly upon the shows end. OH and EDIT: I don’t think it really matters what Gellar and Boreanaz have said. Of course they’re going to say they’re not involved… they haven’t been asked, they haven’t seen a script, I’m sure they’re as in the dark as the rest of us. If they come up with a good story and motivated their returns, and Joss is involved, I think they’d do it.

I don't think the film crew would be capable of achieving a satisfying "Nikki" Buffy reboot, but I would love a 70s period piece with Nikki icing vampires in the hood.

Most ppl ignorantly hate reboots but if it makes them feel any better sarah gave this her blessing She said her version of Buffy closed the book but if they have more stories to tell they can go ahead she just won’t be attached Prob cuz of CoVid

I would like to either see a series about all of the slayers prior to Buffy or an animated series with the original cast. I would also be willing to see a Sabrina dark type reboot, but even that show has gone to shit because of the horrible Riverdale writers. I agree with you on the Nikki thing, I thought the same while watching the series!! I’m honestly the most in favor of a new animated series.

I'm honestly quite worried that Monica Owusu-Breen won't be able to bring the humour. Hoping the writers' room has at least one decent comedic writer, coz it's such a vital part of what made the original so great.

Joss Whedon wrote enough lore for this universe to last decades to an imaginative producer and writing team. The short lived Freya comics are an easy start for a new generation, especially with the turbulent times and social issues facing 2020.

I think one of the few things the Charmed Reboot did right was not totally dismiss the original charmed sisters by saying that there has been more than one set of charmed ones out there. I think the same should go for Buffy. She doesn't necessarily have to be acknowledged at first but don't completely dismiss her existence. I also hope it's not CW SJW heavy. Buffy was progressive enough without it being all in your face. As to the reboot being on pause it may be because of Covid and shows like Buffy has to have a big amount of crew and extras/stunt doubles so that is quite risky to do a project like that right now. I am crossing my fingers for a Fall 2021 announcement or possible premiere but I am not holding my breath.

Nikki wasn't the first Vampire Slayer, she was the last Vampire Slayer Spike killed. I think a reboot would be a terrible idea, look how it worked out for the Charmed reboot.

It’s possible things got delayed because of Covid, but I doubt it. I really hope it happens though. A 2020 Buffy is just what the world needs right now.

My ideas are - We find out about the slayers - Willow becomes Goddess of Slayers - Sarah Michelle Gellar should be watcher to one slayer - Xander and Anya are married - Buffy is the watcher of Wood’s daughter - Spike and Angel are still their. The show either gave them mortality or CGI could (maybe) make James and David look like how they did - The fanged four are all good now (even Dru) - Tara has been resurrected (Ik people are gonna comment that that couldn’t happen but it’s my idea) - Ik I said CGI but maybe if it got too hard Buffy got married to either Spike or Angel cos one became mortal - If Buffy’s husband is mortal she has a little girl who is a slayer - The show can be shown on BBC as it was in the UK when the original came out - Dawn became a witch - Some big bads are resurrected ( Ok so Sarah and David said they wouldn’t come according to your news) - It should contain something about Corona - Yeah that’s all my ideas. - I don’t really want a reboot

I'm down with a new show if it's a new slayer not named Buffy that happens in the already established Buffyverse. It would be cool to have some members of the original cast guest star. I don't have a problem if she's a woman of color I just think it should be a new slayer in the existing Buffyverse. Also Joss would have to be heavily involved. I think the new Charmed sucked. I really hope they don't do a remake of Buffy. I think that would be the worse thing they could do.

They already clarified that it will be a new set of characters set in the same world as buffy so it's more a spin off a nikki spin off would be great. I this is simular to the charmed remake in that it was in development for years before the new show came out

A reboot would be nice, but for me only it would work out if they respect the canon. And I mean the whole canon with the comics... Therefore it has to play a few years after Season 12... Then I wouldn't mind which race the new slayer has. Wouldn't it be nice if they would go to Canada or Africa? With a few older characters switching over, like a human again Spike? Nikki was known for her 7 year run as a slayer which is very rare before Buffy. A TV show sounds cool but the fact that she never saved the world in the comics and was killed by spike tells me a Buffy reboot would be much better. How about we find out Giles had a secret daughter who was a potential? And she replaces Buffy after she dies

I really think "Reboot" means they start again. A continuation of the story would be a sequel or if it's different enough perhaps a spin off.

A can go for a reboot if the main slayer in the story is a new character. Dont take Buffy and change her race or even hair color... it will change who the chatacter is, her background, her valley-girl speak... but then if Spike ever makes a cameo it had better be James Marsters de-aged.

If they start over with a new Buffy, I won't watch that garbage. That story has already been told. Tell something new and exciting or don't do it at all. Don't destroy my childhood.

When they mentioned it they declared that they would cast a "woman of colour" in the leading roll that was immediately a little concerning. Not that I would mind if it had a black lead at all but the fact they considered that THE most important thing to mention is a red flag for it being a current year production where they think having an identity label is the same as having a character. I immediately imagine them making every episode some sort of painfully ham-fisted analogy to a CY political talking point (not to say it's impossible to do a good political episode I just doubt they can). I'd give it a shot but its hard to believe it would just be a well written show about characters and fighting demons when its being made in 2020/1.

It took literally decades for spinoffs from Star Trek to happen. It was successful. TNG then DS9 and VOY etc. It worked cos the powers to b respected and lived the franchise and were pretty much the right people at the right place at the right time. All that changed with the JJ Abrams bullshit and Discovery and Picard crap. Legendary franchises from Trek to Who have been destroyed. Marvel may go the same way. Buffy may get a reboot. ....it may not. But would any reboot b any good? Pends on the powers to b. It may b a long time coming but it'll b worth the wait if it's as good as TNG was to Star Trek. It wasn't that they were casting the role of Buffy and this amazing larger than life black actress came along and they decided to hire her because she was so great (Samuel L. Jackson playing Nick Fury). It was predetermined that the role was going to be changed to a black character. That is the definition of forced diversity. Not to mention that the character's race plays a significant part. She is a stereotypical spoiled blonde valley girl. And the thing is, you don't need to do a reboot. There are so many possible story lines available in the Buffyverse that would have the lead be a woman of color. Whether they wanted to do a series about Nikki Wood. I think that that would be pretty cool, with her navigating through 1970's New York. Although us knowing how it all ends, kind of kills the story. But the possibilities are endless. I'm actually pretty amazed that Disney, Netflix, Hulu, or someone else hasn't already done a spinoff
