This Episode was made a few years before Whitman Mayo (Grady) passed away in 2001. There was another episode after this with an Update where Grady was found and made an Appearance on Conan O'Brien,s show. I hope someone will soon upload that episode.

Whitman Mayo, the actor who played Grady, appeared on the show a few weeks later alive and well. I'm pretty sure Whitman was in on it the whole time. Fun to see Aunt Esther make a cameo there. This was all an inspired, fun bit of silliness. If you're offended by it, get your priorities straight

The whole Grady bit was Conan mocking Dick Assman (a gas station attendant from Canada; and yes, THAT WAS HIS ACTUAL NAME!) being made an instant celebrity thanks to David Letterman a year before. And yes, Whitman Mayo was living in the Atlanta area the whole time; Conan’s staff already had his contact info.

I tried to call the number but it’s Now being used by some other company or whatever. I will share my greatest story with you fine folks of KZfaq. It’s not exactly about him. I knew a man named Grady. He and his wife lived in a trailer park for senior citizens. He had a neighbor that hated his wife for no reason at all. One day Grady’s wife and the neighbor got into it and he pulled out a gun. Grady took the bullet for his wife and died. I don’t know why the guy didn’t shoot her afterwards. I don’t know if it was a one bullet kind of thing. But Grady died so his wife didn’t.

This is pretty much a Letterman copy. On Dave's original morning show, a regular guest was "PJ Rails," a conspiracy kook who argued that Joe Garagiola was responsible for most of America's major tragedies. He often produced maps and doctored photos with an obviously superimposed Garagiola headshot to prove his case.
