Redd Foxx is a comedy hero. As much as Lenny Bruce and George Carlin, Redd Foxx pushed the envelope on what you can and can’t joke about. A brilliant man.

@@bholaoates1542 That’s the only reason I did, really - because these three largely came before him. Also, whereas the comedy of Bruce, Carlin, and Foxx was generally social in nature, Pryor’s was generally personal. That is to say - again, while a generalization - that while Carlin, Bruce, and Foxx made fun of *us* - society - Pryor made fun of himself.

This interview made me sad that my favorite comedian died in 1991 . Incredibly Bobbie Wygant is still alive at age of 95 . I was fascinated by Redd Foxx when I first immigrated to U.S from Korea and I watched his show with passion cause he made me laugh so hard. His facial expression is incredible and he is genius every aspect of his actions. There is nobody can even come close to this brilliant man as the king of comedy .

Redd was a comic genius. Best comic timing in the business. It’s interesting how different he is as a person from Fred Sanford. Seems like a genuine, smart, thoughtful person. He stated the show was only meant to be funny no overt messaging. He fully understood the roll of entertainment and the entertainer. Give your talents to the folks for a brief distraction from life’s problems. This idea is gone now. God bless you Redd.

It woulda been hella funny to have Fred Sanford and Archie Bunker together, but what could possibly have been a realistic context for that to happen??? At least the Jeffersons lived right night door to the Bunkers, so that made sense, but Fred lived in L.A. and Archie in New York. I guess maybe Norman Lear coulda made up some reason for Fred and Lamont to travel to New York and run into Archie and Edith at the airport, at the grocery store, or maybe sharing a cab or something, or the bunkers could’ve been on a trip to California to visit Gloria and Mike and little Joey after they moved away, and run into Fred somewhere. Or maybe they somehow run into each other in St. Louis, Las Vegas or Hawaii, all places where Fred went at some point. It all would seem pretty unlikely, though...like what would be the odds of Fred and Archie just happening to run into each other somewhere?

@@lloydkline6946 yeah, like Demond Wilson said in an interview with the same woman, Fred Sanford really wasn’t a bigot like Archie bunker was. Maybe Fred and Archie could’ve gotten stuck in a doorway somewhere, like Archie and Meathead always used to do. That could’ve been some physical comedy. Or maybe Archie coulda said something racial to Fred, and Fred coulda responded by holding up a fist as if to punch him and saying “How’d you like one of THESE across your LIPS???!!!” That woulda been a perfect mixture of Archie being racial and Fred being physical.😄

That is the exact same thing I was just thinking. He looks so old on the show, I never saw him outside of that, really. He played the character of Fred Sanford so well that I thought he really WAS that old.

Oh boy that would’ve been the best thing ever probably. The redd foxx meet Archie Bunker and the Jeffersons on the same show. That should’ve happened
