Just taking a drive through one of the richest zip codes in the United States. Mercer Island was home to billionaires Paul Allen of Microsoft and Howard Schultz of Starbucks. Its also one of the most expensive areas to live in the PNW, with tons of waterfront multi-million dollar mega mansions all over.

It’s actually a pretty big island, larger than I expected. For all the wealth, I’m surprised the downtown area in the north isn’t fancier like one of those chic Bay Area cities on the peninsula. Perhaps nimbys shut it down or maybe PAC NWers are just more low key. I wonder how many hoops you have to jump through to build anything there. I imagine the hurdles are high! That Honda driver was probably wondering if you were following them 😅. Thanks for the tour of a place I’ve never seen!

With so many homeless shelters and food banks on Mercer Island the people that live there do an excellent job keeping the crime rate lower than the rest of WA while keeping the island very welcoming and inclusive.😂 Humanity at its worst.

@@sterlingmarshel6299 Ha! sorry I was being sarcastic. If you lived here you would know the rich have made this island exclusive and have a higher count of tax payer funded police than the rest of our state. And there are no shelters there.
