I think Newey himself leaving is not a terrible blow to Red Bull, but it's more representative of the wider culture problem and division of the team, which will likely be their downfall.

Wherever Adrian Newey goes, he will go somewhere that gives him the creative freedom to do what he wants outside of F1. John Elkann will make that happen, much like how he gave Lewis EVERYTHING he wanted.

As a long-time RB fan it'll be a shame to see him leave.. But,,, (if reports are accurate) and he's leaving on "principal" I whole heartedly respect that,,, and wish him and the team he goes to all the best. 👍👍🏁

Spot on, Newey HATES when he is not asked about some key decisions (like which drivers will be hired during Williams era) and/or political issues (Mclaren + Ron Dennis era). With the huge internal fight in Red Bull and if you take into account that was Horner the one that hire him from RB (and rescued him from Mclaren issues) I will not be surprised if he wants to quit. RB will suffer a lot because without Newey I can see 2 scenarios (considering Horner, Helmut and Max continues): Scenario #1: RB is less dominant in 2025 and build a bad car for 2026, Horner is kicked, Helmut is retired and they restart the team. Scenario #2: RB build a good 2025 and 2026 too, Helmut is kicked and RB hires a new driver to replace Max for 2028 (2027 this new driver will be onto the team).

"If" he leaves, he's under contract until the end of 2025, therefore he will be placed on gardening leave, as Red Bull will restrict him from working for any third party. That mean's it will be January 2026 by the time he joins another team. a month before the 2026 season starts. So he will not have any meaningful design input into a car until the 2027 season.

Newey is great, but put some respect on Chapmans name. He may have fewer championships, but the amount of actual innovation he was responsible for boggles the mind. Monocoques, aerodynamics, suspension struts, and most importantly: sponsorship. Without sponsors, f1 never would’ve become mainstream, and never would’ve garnered the popularity it has now. Not to mention lotus also entered into other competitions like indy500, Tasman series, and various f2 championships. Reliability was also a lot worse in those days, so championships were often determined by luck.

Newey does have the most championships at 25 across 3 teams but people forgot James Allison has 24 across 4 teams (Benetton, Ferrari, Renault, and Mercedes). I just like pointing this out because even Wikipedia seems to have forgotten he was the head of aerodynamics at Benetton when Schumacher won the WDC in 94/95 and Benetton won the WCC in 95. He’s gotten to work with Schumacher, Alonso, and Hamilton 3 of the GOATs.

Everything you said about Newey's history was correct, but at Williams, Frank Williams and Patrick Head signed Jacques Villeneuve and Heinz-Harald Frentzen behind his back ILLEGALLY as Newey had signed a contract stating he was to be consulted and had legal power on signing all driver contracts. He only learned about the Villeneuve signing after he got back from a vacation and the Frentzen signing when flying back from a race with Patrick Head months after Frentzen had been signed. He actually sued Williams but was forced to drop the suit when Ron Dennis signed a deal with Williams dropping the lawsuit but gaining Newey before his contract (until 1998) was completed

I think its gonna be McLaren or Ferrari. Ferrari is definetly the number 1 option, but McLaren offers him a lot too. They're comeback has been miraculous, Lando is proving himself to be quite possibly a great of his generation. They are probably the highest trajectory atm, and still offer those Supercar opportunities along with working in the UK. Ferrari offer a lot too tho. With Supercars, new experiences, Leclerc ( a great of his generation) and Lewis regareded as one of the better drivers to ever drive a formula one car. As well as being probably the closest to Red Bull right now.

I don't think newey would want to go to astin only because although being able to work with Alonso is one of the things he want, being forced to join a 1 driver team and basically not being able to win constructors thanks to that may just make him go Ferrari instead where they actually have 2 drivers

I doubt his gardening leave will be until 2027. RB would be insane to try to continue to employ someone who is as influential as Newey for any length of time in any role when he’s made the decision that he no longer wants to maintain his role. He can simply stop contributing, by withholding his insights. Further, anyone who also works at RB who has any alliance to him, would be at greater risk to leave themselves. And as an organization, treating him unfairly (as interpreted by other employees) would be detrimental for their retention of other talent. I wouldn’t be surprised if his gardening leave of 12 months starts soon.

As much domination Mercedes may have over the past years, I still want Adrian newey to go to Mercedes because they are the ones struggling the most with the ground effect rules. Mercedes really needs newey because all the other teams have some kind of understanding of the ground effect regulations but Mercedes still don’t. So Mercedes really needs Adrian newey to finally nail the concept of concept of ground effect regulations. And yes, Mercedes is my favourite team.

For me this level of Red Bull domination is making F1 a totally dead sport to watch, and even when Max retired in Australia some people were still saying the racing was boring. Hopefully Newey leaving to join another team will help the gap to Red Bull be closed, but also hopefully the 2026 regulations will help with the racing. To me these current regulations are just not fit for purpose. We have far more interesting stuff happening off track than on it, it's embarrassing.

Alonso is driving for his retirement at Aston Martin and gained an ambassador role for the brand no less. But for a driver who hasn't won a race in F1 for 11 years now and who will hit 44 and 45 in his final years you sure praise him to the skies. Last year's Aston Martin was basically a 2022 Red Bull. You also have short memories, for while Alonso does way better than Stroll (hardly a driver to be measured against) he didn't exactly do the same with Ocon at Alpine did he? Now Ocon is a fine driver but who would rate Ocon among the top 10 drivers? 2024 will be another cakewalk for Max so any hypothetical title will be in 2025 or 2026 for Alonso. 19-20 years after his last title. Question: When exactly has that happened in any sport for a single individual? As for Newey. Ask yourself what a man who has nothing more to prove will do? Go for one final triumph with team X which has a huge allure.

I’ve never spoken on the Christian Horner’s scandal, but as much as he’s known as the Karen among formula one team principals, he is still one of the greatest team principal, and his record successes at red bull is proof of that. So, yes, he is in a scandal, but he is still a difference maker in any f1 team. It may not sound good to say it, his departure will be a loss to f1 for they will lose out on his brilliance as a team principal with decades of proven success. Punish him with any other measures, and do compensate the victim but keep him in f1. Give him one more chance at redemption. Let’s not go with political correctness, for f1 is all about results and not morality. Morality is important but so is Christian horner’s brilliance. I am just trying to be more practical.
