For the last six months "Where the Crawdads Sing" has been a fixture on The New York Times' Bestsellers List. The novel by Delia Owens is a love story, murder mystery, courtroom drama, and ode to the outdoors all in one. Lee Cowan paid a visit to Owens at her home in Idaho, and in the wilderness she loves.

For the cynics in the comments; the book is beloved because every plot within the story (drama, romance, mystery, nature) reaches levels of deep introspective insight that few authors can reach. And, now I know why. It’s a masterpiece. And it will speak to the soul of every nature lover worldwide.

I’m about 85 or so pages into this book. It is so beautifully written! I can’t tell you how much I care about the main character, and I’m so excited to see what happens next. I am a big nature lover, although I live about 10 minutes outside of New York City in a suburb. I know what she means when she says she feels at home when she’s in nature. I feel very similarly. Such a lovely woman, I’m so very happy for all her success. I want to finish the book before I see the movie. When a commercial comes on for the trailer, I try to mute it and turn away. Lol I don’t want it to ruin my experience with the book. I have already envisioned what everyone looks like, and what her surroundings look like too. Well, I’m gonna get off here now, and dive back into the book. Good night all!

@@trestrom6401 I thought I didn't like to read until I read non-fiction. As they say"there are no bad readers. There are only readers who have not yet found their type of book". So after many years I decided I would dare to read a fiction book. I picked this book because of the ratings, and I'm having a hard time keeping up and not losing focus. I myself wrote a book recently and it's a memoir. Yes nonfiction. I don't want to give up on this book yet. I read about one third of it so far.

@@laurelleafr6091 The book has good atmosphere and imagery, but it's hard to tie a central plot to it and it's kinda dry in some bits, making it very unfriendly for people who often don't read. I remember in highschool senior year over 95 percent of the class didn't get past like the 20th page. It's a good journey if you stick with it though.

It's interesting because I relate to this feeling, when I lived in Vermont there is a beauty to the solitude. I miss being there so much! I remember my least stressful times where when I would spend endless hours in the woods uninterrupted, picking berries and going fishing. Those were my most exciting moments. Delia mentioned loneliness too, I have felt that feeling whether I was with or without people around. Having autism brings about its own dose of loneliness. Delia is a sweet soul and I wish I could meet her one day.
