The first thing that happens is that the guy comment on her looks. Perhaps if we guys stop being sexist jerks we will see more female mixers.

It was an appalling and sexist interview, and Waves shows it is part of the problem. A stream of sexist garbage. The first comment about how beautiful he considers Marcella's appearance was a shocker. Then he asks her how she balances being a mother. Why don't they ask men about home life and being a father? Waves keeps highlighting men who mix, and asking their tips and advice for mixing. Waves doesn't highlight women in engineering and ask then for their technical tips. Waves, you need to do better.

This interview and these questions is the demonstration of the industry's sexism. How do you manage your work and being a mom? do they ask the male engineers how they manage being a dad?
@sonnerie9316

He actually changed that question. He inserted the Mom bit. Then totally neglected to ask the rest of the question!!! Which was totally relevant!

Why would you introduce her as “beautiful”? Honestly that’s what is wrong here. What about introducing her for the REASON she is being featured. Talent? Experience? That just got overshadowed by the word “beautiful”. Where’s the respect?!?
@magadesto

I completely agree, it's ridiculous. Also, no other mixer out there would get asked how they manage their job and being a parent.

Because she is beautiful. Nobody would know her if she wasn't good at what she does. Which is why she's being interviewed. Nothing wrong with complimenting a person.

It does nothing to help women in the industry being respected for their skills/talent when you introduce them in such interviews as "the beautiful" rather than "the talented" or something to that effect. In a video whose title asks "where are the women in this industry", you manage to sum up the question, answer it, and show why it's going to be such a mammoth task to change, before you've even asked your interviewee her first question. We all need to be asking ourselves whether the women we work with are there because they are "eye candy who happen to be talented", or because they are peers. And then we need to be asking whether the way we treat them, the way we talk to them, the way we listen to them (if we even do) reflects that....

Wait...it's belittling now to say if a woman is beautiful? The day will come when men like you are to chicken to talk to women, then women will be complaining that there is no manly men anymore. Grow a pair man, and be human. Not some fuckin Stepford robot to society.

This is such a sexist interview. I love Waves, but common guys - "How do you balance having a job and being a mother"? No one ever asks a man how he manages to work and have kids. And beginning the interview with calling her beautiful? What does that have to do with anything? This is so awkward and uncomfortable.

I have. It's silly. And it's like saying "politically correct"; meaning the it's just a thing people say to cut off discussions without having an actual point of rebuttal. You either think English language usage matters when we are supposedly trying to communicate, or you don't. You don't.

Ave you're always saying not to do what everyone else is doing (music wise) so why not apply the same to life? No hate just generally curious why should one not have the benefit of reading proper English when it's what should be expected.

Women would be just as good if they were as nerdy as men. Watching KZfaq channels like these and figuring out how things work on their down time. I bet if you look at viewers of this video it’s 99% men. This girl is an exception of course, and it must be hard for her having to prove her self all the time like in the Timbaland story.

I'd like to see this interviewer say "handsome" to the men mixers and see what happens. His 'beautiful' comment is sexist.
@quarkyzarky
@quarkyzarky 6 жыл бұрын
Though it was already said.. the 'beautiful' comment, *sigh*. She's just a woman, imagine if every man was introduced as 'the handsome...'. Secondly she's average, not beautiful. Thirdly, women find it harder to be taken seriously because they all doll themselves up in tons of makeup, fancy clothes, jewels, hair that cost £1000, extensions, fake nails, lip jobs, botox... they are so focused on the visual most 'normal' men and women find it harder to take them seriously, in any line of work. Well, I'm not advocating that all women in music should look like boilers, but if you yourself put so much priority on 'looking beautiful' then don't be surprised when it overshadows your work. Simple really. Real geeks, real engineers don't have fingernails that mess up fader moves or guitar strums, they spend too much time reading/learning/all nighters working on the craft, no time at all for that kind of visual preening/expensive hair dos. You can thank me later for my totally non PC and yet perfectly on point assessment. Too much emphasis on 'women this women that' adds to the problem. Just let them all be engineers.. man or woman, stop emphasising the female side. It makes it seem like it's an issue.

Without a doubt. But why make this about gender at all? Seems to be more of the same from America. "We are all the same" but we should "celebrate diversity." Race is only skin deep but he is an African American and she is just "White." Just identity politics as usual. Nobody cares (or should care) who made a great mix, but these kinds of videos just put fuel on the fire because they are entirely unnecessary.
