Meghan Markle's wedding dress was a huge disappointment. Let's compare it to some other famous or Royal wedding gowns that also took a simplistic, more modern approach to their dresses and see if the Meg's dress could have been saved. Today we are taking a look at more Royal (& others) Wedding Gowns, and how we could have fixed the Meg's wedding dress, saving it from the halls of disappointing wedding gown history.
Including Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, Princess Angela of Liechtenstein, Princess Margriet of the Netherlands*, and even the UK's Princess Margaret as well as Nicola Peltz-Beckham. These dresses all have a bit in common with the Meg's but the differences in execution arguably made them much more successful.
What could have fixed the Meg's big disappointment of a dress? Well, let's see what you all think! I've tallied up the polls on Meghan Markle's wedding dress to see by vote which options really could have helped her look be more successful that day.

I'm just a bit sad that you're promoting Temu. Temu and companies like it are under investigation by the US government. They're marketing very aggressively and undermining legitimate national companies by copying and producing with inferior materials. You've got to ask yourself how they can be so cheap. And when it says 'made in China' please remember the Uighurs. Great chance some of the products are made by slave labour.

And we know why. She changed everything at the last minute. Again, it's on her. I don't understand someone making so many horrible decisions around this area of her life!! By changing at the end, her wedding dress for British Royalty was equilvalent to buying a dress off the rack.

I was a bit sad while watching the wedding, my Mom was about a year into early onset Alzheimer's, and we were going to watch together. I did end up watching twice, once Mom was able, so my memories are all mixed with emotions. I thought I liked the wedding. Not sure now.

Yes, if the future King and Queen had a low key wedding with Camilla wearing a pearl grey outfit (which looked 100 times better than MM anyway!!) Then MM as a divorcee, should have had the same.... she must have pulled some slippery stunts to get her way, maybe that's why there was so much dress changes and it was a rush job at the end!?? We all know it was more a 'net-working' session more than it was ever a wedding for old MM

@lynettefinnigan9540 Camilla wore cream (looked white to me) to the civil marriage and pale blue and gold to the church blessing (no actual church wedding for the divorcees). Both dress looked beautiful and were very flattering for her figure. Queen Elizabeth also wore a cream outfit for the days events.

Since she was married before, she should have not had a church wedding. The British people would have respected her more. Her gown should have been off white or champagne. A cowl neckline would have been good. A humbler approach would have been better. I know royal weddings are grand, but this was a second marriage.

Harry’s Wife’s wedding bouquet was too small, & the neckline looks wonky. The fabric was way too stiff & blindingly white. Nothing interesting or special about it, not even the bride who wore it

I was looking forward to seeing the gown, because, like most people, I assumed it would be appropriate for her age and status as a divorced woman. I thought she would have a chance to really choose something different and unique, mature but glamorous. When Princess Catherine stepped out of the car on her wedding day to Prince William, I literally sighed and said, "Perfect". I *love* the ensemble she chose. However, when M stepped out of the car, I deflated, shook my head, and said, "Meh." Then I got a gander at the whole ensemble, include coiffure, and said, "This is a disaster". Oh well, I guess she started as she's continuing.

Meghan Markle's wedding dress was just poorly fitted. It also looked as though it wasn't properly pressed. And Princess Angela's dress--though similarly simple--was made of a more appropriate fabric.

I think because the dress was not approved by the Queen, so MM had an approved dress made for the Queen to see, then last minute rush to finish the other one, so she could 'once again' be rude to the Queen and wear it anyway!!

Watching the wedding in 2018, I recall my thoughts: -how sweet for Prince Charles to walk her down the aisle - how lonely and forlorn her mother appeared - how amazing was the music - and WHY in the world did she wear her hair like that?!?! It looked like she did it herself. The center part was jarring.

She started right at the beginning to do things opposite to what was expected. Right down to getting in a car first, nearly having to push the Queen out the way to get in first. ... and did you see the vile look on her face when little Charlotte looked at her while passing her with the other flower girls ... bridezilla grinned at all the other flower girls and pages, except for Charlotte ... that says so much about her personality and maturity, and probably so much more than that. Mary is an example of what to do RIGHT when you're a commoner marrying into an old (oldest ) RF. She learnt another language and worked so hard to become a part of her new family and country . Her wedding dress was designed by someone from her new country and everything felt "real" and heartfelt . Also her bouquet was gorgeous . We're so proud of her here in Oz💛.

I loved Princess Beatrice’s wedding dress which was a vintage Hartnell dress her grandmother wore in the 1960’s, slightly altered. Angela Kelly - the Queens dresser at the time added short sleeves and length. Beatrice also wore the Fringe tiara worn by her Grandmother and mother. MM looked terrible on her wedding day. The ridiculous long veil, frumpy dress and “tiaragate” made it difficult to admire. Rather than have all the flowers if the commonwealth countries embroidered down the sides, she should have had the dollar and pound signs along with “MEEEEE” embroidered there instead.

The Fringe tiara is quite beautiful. Beatrice's mother, Sarah, wore an equally beautiful tiara; one that was gifted to her. Sadly, it wasn't the Fringe.

In defense of Princess Anne’s dress. That medieval Juliet dress was absolutely on point for the time! Think the Camelot movie and Franco Zeffirelli’s Romeo and Juliet. Notice her only flower girl Lady Sarah Armstrong Jones is wearing a Juliet cap on her head. Huge in the 70’s!

I can't imagine what the critique would have been if I had needed a big-whoop-dee-doo public spectacle of a wedding dress, and went with an adaptation of one of my favorite dresses from film: the dress Hannah Gordon wears as Mrs. Treves in "The Elephant Man", when she hosts Mr. Merrick for tea. The first time I saw that film, as Ms. Gordon made her entrance in that dress, coming down some stairs, I thought: "I want one of those!" The dresses from the near-end of the Victorian era -- after hoops disappeared, when bustles were diminishing, and before ladies's sleeves started looking like hot air balloons -- are so trim and embellished that they just seem like extremely fertile ground for wedding dress inspiration.

Like most people I loved Catherine's dress, but as well as Princess Margaret and the Duchess of Kent"s dresses my other favourite was Lady Sarah Chatto's dress (exquisite simplicity). Also her bridesmaids looked beautiful as well.

I saw many of the royal weddings in the early 1969’s. I was very young and I loved reading all about them and watching on tv. Everyone I knew and the press seemed to love Princess Margaret’s dress and her amazing tiara. I was the same age, around 11, and shape as Princess Anne and I was really disappointed in the dress she wore as bridesmaid. The style looked good on the little bridesmaids but didn’t suit Anne. I thought Princess Margaret was a bit mean making Anne wear it.

But every story, MM has stolen a bit of their story...MM tells the story that she had a bit of the blue material from her first date with Harry. (However he remembered she wore a black top and jeans😂😂😂😂) the flowers like the Queen embroidered on her veil, adding Californian Poppies (even though they're not part of the Commonwealth) and I still think she researched that black woman who married in and used that dress look....copy, copy, copy....its all she can do, no style, no fashion sense....

To get the full effect of Princess Mary’s dress you have to see her walking in it; the skirt panels then flow beautifully with her motion. There are videos on KZfaq of her walking down the aisle and it’s the most romantic thing ever; Frederik teared up at the sight of her.

I was bothered by the stark white AND veil considering that this was her 2nd/3rd wedding. The dress she chose was stark, poorly fitted and the veil was overkill...

Brides wear veils regardless. The thing is to not wear a blusher over the face if it's not your furst wedding. It used to signify that you were a virgin. Catherine probably wasn't a virgin but that was her first wedding. Plus the catherdral may have rules, too.

It was a sheer slip over a bathing suit because it was a college modeling project.. Meghan is just a garbage human being all around. Not sure she has any redeeming qualities.

Thanks Beebs for yet another brilliant video. It has been reported that Harry's wife was told by the Queen on no account was she to wear a white wedding dress as it would be totally unacceptable as she had previously been divorced and the ceremony was taking place in the C of E St George's Chapel. Plus, our Monarch is the head of the Church of England. Harry's wife of course, went completely against her orders and Royal Protocol which is no surprise. As we are all aware now nobody tells this narcissist what she can and can't do, even our beloved Queen. "What Meghan wants, Meghan gets." As stated by Harry. This is why, quite rightly, the Queen's expression was one of utter disdain and disapproval. Harry's wife had no intention of becoming a working Royal from the start and I'm pretty sure our Queen knew it. She married Harry purely for the money, status and the title. Thanks again, Beebs. 🇬🇧

I think it was inspired by Angela’s dress and something the Meg thought Carolyn Besset Kennedy “might” have worn. I think the designers were tired of Megs diva attitude and changing the dress constantly and let her go as is, a bit unfinished!! Good for them!! Oh wow, I love Princess Mary’s dress. It’s lovely.

I heard the Queen didn’t want Meghan to have a veil with all the flowers of the Commonwealth. Perhaps she sensed the marriage wouldn’t last, so suggesting a commitment to the Commonwealth was insincere. (!) The Queen’s Coronation dress had the flowers of the Commonwealth, so knowing Meghan, the move could’ve been a type of character acquisition.

I was not into fashion at the time of the wedding nor into news about the RF at all. In fact, I was delighted to see that Harry had found his bride. A beautiful woman, so I thought. With enough money and fame on her own, so I thought. Enough to marry for love, so I thought. Yes, I was wrong. But I remember clearly the moment she got out of the car and my disappointment about her appearance. I couldn't tell at the time what it was. But I was totally underwhelmed by the look.

When I first saw Meghan's wedding dress I was totally shocked because to me, I saw - nothing. Maybe it's the fault of the bad fit, but it just looked like a piece of white cloth with no feature on it at all. As TV commentators were saying that it was iconic I just couldn't believe it. It reminded me of the emperor's new clothes. There was just nothing to say, because there was nothing there. I think the dress was too severe to be fixed up with lace. It would have looked too incongruous.

When Meghan stepped out of the car and stood up, when we got our first look at the gown, my immediate reaction was, "It doesn't fit. Why is it bunchy in the middle? Is it supposed to look like that?" I dont hate the gown. it's actually rather elegant. But it looked way better displayed on a mannequin after the wedding than it ever looked on her.

Pippas dress was pretty and fit her figure. Pippa is athletic and has great posture and a long torso- unlike meghan. However I thought it was a severe style. The lace overlay was serious and very edgy with the scalloping on the lace the designer commented that the design was edgy anyway, Meghans too laid back for that and wouldn't be able to carry thst off .

What do people think about MMs bouquet? It doesn’t get mentioned but I think it was too small and insignificant for a grand royal wedding. She looked awkward carrying it and held it like a coffee mug in some pictures. If the shape is right, the bouquet completes the bride’s look. A bigger traditional bouquet could have enhanced and softened the awful stiff plainness of her dress - as seen with some of the other royal bouquets. Nor should MM have held it pointing downward with her long arm extended as she did some of the time. It seemed to be nothing but an annoyance rather than part of the show.

As a narcissist, MM doesn't have the slightest idea of who she is. She married primarily out of ambition, as she has shown the entire world ever since. In these conditions, how could she have imagined, with the help of a team, THE dress that would celebrate this special day? IMO the disproportion of the veil speaks volume on this subject. The veil seems completely foreign to the dress, just as love is totally absent from MM's abilities. For her it was only a question of appearance, money and ambition. It was necessary to show the world that she was superior to all the other brides in the RF. Moreover, MM also picked up something from Princess Diana's very long veil. Princess Diana's train and veil were the longest ever worn by a bride in the RF and measured 8 meters long. MM's veil measured 5 meters which makes no sense. Princess Catherine's train measured 2.5 meters and her sublime veil was short. With all her narcissistic priorities, MM could not be well dressed, not even on her wedding day.

For me, the only improvement for that dress would have been a lit match. Seriously, i used to sell bridal gowns, & this one was the most underwhelming gown I've ever seen. Was incredibly matronly looking. It was just another example of how Meghan shops for the designer label rather than the actual design & how it suits her own body type. Was she trying to look like an old maid here? The veil looked like something from a comedy show... the never-ending veil. SNL lost their chance for a parody on that.

I think I read or heard somewhere that bare shoulders were not allowed and the Queen hadn't seen this dress, and that it hadn't been approved. For someone who cares about appearances so much, she really doesn't know what suits her or listen to people who dress her. I have yet to see her in something that is a really good fit for her, unlike the Princess of Wales.

I wondered if you could address the often overlooked fact that she had the flowers of every member of the Commonwealth embroidered into her veil as a sign of her commitment to her new role as Queens representative (I forget the actual title she was given!). I saw in the same documentary shortly after her marriage when she also told the presenter that a small piece of fabric from the blue dress she wore on her first date with Harry was hidden in the dress, but didn't HE say in Spare that she wore jeans...?

One of the interesting ones was about the Jubilee and up pops the Wife (😱) talking about her wedding dress and going on and on about the ‘original veil with Commonwealth flowers embroidered along the edge. I was furious because I’d just watched ‘A Majestic Life’ about Elizabeth II’s wedding and HER VEIL. The interviewer didn’t say anything BUT, a black and white cut in video with the narration of Elizabeth II’s dress, veil and the ‘original’ embroidered Commonwealth flowers😆began, and I got over my mad😉

I know this sounds ridiculous but many people still associate white with virginity/ purity. At the very least a first marriage for the bride. Memee was 36 years old, had cheated on her boyfriend Corey Vitiello who she stalked IMO, and sent her engagement and wedding ring back to her husband in the mail. So much class all around. The look on H.M. Queen Elizabeth II's face was priceless, it was her grumpy " I am not amused " face. And what was going on with her hair? She had a hairdresser do that for her? It was a mess and disrespectful to the setting and occasion. Dear God I have turned into my mother.

You know, at the heart of the wedding dress color issue is the matter of respect. Respect for the family's beliefs, the thousand year heritage, the church she was marrying in, and for the matriarch and patriarch of the family. She showed none in her choice of attire. When King Charles and Queen Camilla married, they did so at the town hall, then went on to have a blessing in church. They were respectful in their marriage and their blessing, down to Camilla wearing two *very* lovely ensembles which did *not* consist of pure white. That is the difference, and that is why, imho, so many people were put off by M's choices. Pure white, a very long veil (shouldn't have been wearing one), messy hair, badly tailored dress, no stockings on the bridesmaids...it was precisely the *opposite* of what that particular royal wedding should've been.

The fabric of the dress looked heavy and thick for the season. Perhaps if the wedding had been held in December or January, the dress would have looked more suitable. I heard that the two things that Queen Elizabeth II could not understand was the actress wearing a veil and the dress being stark white. I heard a rumor recently that I was not familiar with that the wedding dress she showed the Queen for approval to wear at the wedding was a different dress from the one she actually wore. Perhaps that is why, in the favorite wedding photo of the Queen, she seems to be glaring at the actress during the ceremony. Also, I thought the veil looked too thin and fragile to go with the heavy material of the dress.

As a Dutch-born person I must correct you. Princess Margriet was not a crown princess of the Netherlands. She was the third daughter of Queen Juliana. Beatrix was the Crown Princess. However, the princess has an interesting history. She was born in Canada, my adopted country. In order to be born as a Dutch national the hospital denationalized the wing in which she was born. I enjoy your videos a great deal.

Yes this is very odd. The child becomes the nationality of the parent and this is based on legal conscripts. However, this may be considered like an embassy where the embassy itself is considered part of the nation it belongs too as opposed to being land belonging to the actual nation it sits in. So if you are born in the entryway of the Canadian embassy in Net York you were born on Canadian soil. If you are born on the sidewalk outside the gate you are possibly given American citizenship because you were born here. Depends on what the parents want. Some will accept the dual citizenship of American /Canadian by the parent and place born and others who have no use for the dual citizenship will just go Canadian.

But only if the child has/ had Dutch father married to birth mother, then child would be Dutch by blood, and Canadian by place. Which is what I was asking, did the royals want only Dutch citizenship thereby omitting the location of Canada?

CP Victoria's wedding dress is one of my all time favorites. She absolutely radiated. The fact that she's also in great shape definitely made the dress look so glamorous and beautiful on her as well. Her smile as she walked down the aisle was fabulous - she was so happy and I love that she nodded to and acknowledged her guests. I also love CP Mary and her wedding dress was quite unique but also very edgy. Her style is pretty edgy in general-she has great taste and always looks fabulous. She plays with color alot especially with her shoes. 👑👑

The late Princess Margaret was such a beautiful woman and an absolutely gorgeous bride, I was in a shop when this came on their TV set in the corner and even the men were making complementary comments on how stunning she looked and that's saying a lot for the men in those days! Though the picture was very grainy she made a very favourable impression.

Victoria's dress was MILES above that absolute disaster that Me-gain wore, (especially the way the veil on Victoria's blended). Out of the 4 alternate dresses, I loved #1, (but in cream). Everything about the plain, heavy, ill fitted, blinding white wrinkled satin she actually wore was embarrassing. Mary's dress was lovely. The cut, flow, & overall shilloutte would have helped Me-gain tremendously. There was no saving that nightmare she wore, it was hideous. Princes Margaret was elegant & stunning! Margaret's dress is my favorite. Would still be fashionable today. Nicola Peltz's wedding shoes are horrible (she gives me narc vibes too). I wonder why Crown Princess Mary went with an off-white dress?

Controversial opinion incoming: I have no problem with divorcées wearing bright white for their subsequent wedding(s). My problem with Meghan's dress is that fabric combined with that pattern. I'm a sewist but you don't have to be one to see immediately that the two don't go together. There is no way that that sturdy silk fabric can be manipulated to form an attractive long sleeve (which as far as I'm aware, are required for British senior royal wedding dresses) without looking stiff and "blocky". My theory is that Meghan went to Givenchy and asked them to make her a dress to look like Audrey Hepburn (Givenchy was AH's favourite fashion house) but the fabric choice was disastrous. I'm astounded that Givenchy let that happen for such a high-profile dress. Had Meghan incorporated a well-tailored mesh long sleeve incorporated into the shoulder/arm area, perhaps with a little stretch so as not to hang loose, she could have kept it modern yet clean and flattering. Obvious curves in the bodice and skirt would have softened the solidity of the dress. However, ultimately I think the fabric used for Meghan's evening gown was far more flattering. Had that fabric been used for her daytime gown, it would have been far better. On a separate note, Meghan's post-wedding expression leaving the church really bothers me - it doesn't read "happiness", so much as "triumph" 😕

I loved princess Margaret's dress ,but my favourite is Lady Sarah Chatto's wedding dress ,the bridesmaids looked lovely too.

The dress was ill fitting and nothing seemed to go together. The veil was too elaborate for the dress and her hair was too messy for the occasion. All that money spent on the gown and veil to have it look all wrong.

This was such an in depth analysis, thanks for taking the time! Princess Margaret's dress was a good one to finish on, because it seems like that dress has the iconic simplicity that Meghan was going for but didn't achieve. I don't blame Meghan for avoiding lace, as Catherine had done that to perfection. But she did miss the mark completely with that dress!
