A small omission: when you shift the center line to one side by half the plank width you ALSO removed one of the planks. Six down to five. Now it makes sense. Thx Joe for usable content.

I’m about to start a 1000 sq ft solid hardwood install in my sister’s home that opens to the living & dining rooms, they connect to a long hallway with the MBR on the other end and rooms on either side of the hallway. I'm a sunroof installer, I get asked often the best way to heat their room. I know that both certain vinyl and laminate can be installed over electric radiant heat . I've used this often but only under tile. Most of my customers are on decks. How would you tackle this, or is it an option? BTW, your the most informative flooring man on all the internet. As soon as anyone even mentions an interest in dyi floors, I immediately pull anyone of your Videos and share it. And tell them.. "you guys are gonna have a million questions, this man will answer every FN one of them! Don't waste your time with anyone else. You and the Idaho painter should get together. He's just as awesome at his trade and videos as your are at yours..inside carpentry is another one. the three of you should share followers. Thanks, Tony

I just quit a flooring store, they had the worst installers I've ever seen, I tried explaining the hall way thing to them and they wouldn't do it just because it was on you tube, I learned this hallway trick from a big time contractor, just cut its on you tube doesn't mean it's wrong, this is the right way to do things.

I've laid some LPV in bathrooms and always came up with the sliver at the end. I plan on doing my entire house soon. This is very helpful!!

Instead of using a chalkline on a 3bd 2bath modular, I just finished, my brother in law told me modulars are very square. So I just followed a sub flooring seam straight down the hallway, and I was able to do the whole house seamlessly at all door casings and some where at that 22.5 angel? And everything looked very straight except that stupid 1 inch piece that I needed to lock along the wall, Haha! ....I use a 1inch chisel to pull those back in. works great, SNAP! I was quite worried honestly when I first started, I'm not gonna lie! ha, but it turned out great, and my 55yr old knees gained a bit more strength!

I would think the focal point would be kitchen, living room fireplace etc.where one would walk in the one of these main areas ,not a hallway, rule of thumb or census seems to be run planking parallel with the longest wall not the short way as it would look chopped up or have a ship lap look to it . comes down to personal opinion .Real wood should be across the floor joist.

Joe hi. Your videos are so helpful in raising my level. I install all types of flooring. Primarily I like to sand and finish the most... Because the installation is already done :-) Installations are very labor intensive. I appreciate you making it easier, smarter and more professional.

People in trades, workers specifically will hate this guy. The reason they hate him is because he takes pride in his work. This guy is insane. Inside his brain, he calculates EVERYTHING! He is really good at what he does and wants EVERYTHING to be perfect. I'd say 95% of installers, workers or mechanics of flooring do not care how a job comes out. They all half ass everything because they think it's faster and easier. They are sadly mistaken. They have never taken the time to do their very best. This guy has. I know this because I also have extreme OCD and take massive pride in my work and all my coworkers hate me. I also can't hire anyone when I'm running my own jobs because I know most floor installers suck. This guy is beyond good and I only watched a couple minutes of this video. People despise me because of what I demand. And I'll bet few people Like this guy as well. Unless he has family working with him or longtime friends that know he is a sick man.

I am just discovering your videos and website, and as I plan to lay out the floor of our new construction early 2023, thank you very much for all of your materials. This is really helpful, especially given the fact that my wife told me "I don't want any transition" and that I have nearly 100 squared meters to lay out for the ground floor only !

I just want to point out that just because you have the same inside measurement doesn’t mean that the hallway would necessarily be square to the other rooms and walls …… I’d always snap an offset s and check for square.

Hi Joe have a question my living room has a two level entry into the the living room. I have a a railing with balusters on on side .my question is what would the best way to do that. Should I take the railing and balusters out then drill holes to put balusters back in. I have learned a lot from you , j Jen you are excellent for explaining everything. Thank you for your channel
