They don't really have vegetables in Polish cuisine haha they do. Most of the traditional, home cooked dinners that you get at an average Polish household consist of some protein (mostly meat), potatoes and a salad (surówka or sałatka). Moreover, Poles love soups and a lot of vegetables go into those, too. So yeah, I kind of disagree :D

Żabka is emergency shop - many people in Poland this shop a shop of the last need. You go there just because you forgot something and any other shop is closed. In Biedronka you have put loose stuff on scale, but in lidl scales are build into the cash registers, even those self-service. Cereals in Europe generally are less sweety than in USA cause of legal regulations that banned certain ingredients.

Each self-service cash register in all of Biedronkas I've been to has scale built in, basically u either scan code or weight on a scale and pick what u've weighted. The part that u put already weighted or scan products also has a controlling scale which causes notorious problems with buns and breads that in reality are usually heavier than their system expects. Please don't spread misinformation about Biedronkas here ;).

Just a heads up - the bread in all these supermarkets is made from frozen dough and uses preservatives. It's not good. If you want to try some real, fresh, tasty Polish bread, go to a bakery (Grzybki, Galeria Wypieków, etc.). The difference is substantial. There's nothing better than a fresh, warm slice of bread.

Like in every european country, in restaurants and shops likevthst you will.not find dishes which are real everyday dinner/ lunch. In Poland almosr every dinner contains a raw vegetable surowka or boiled vegetable jarzynka. You can buy both bit usually not togerher with the dish but in a separate box or frozen. For raw the most popular woul be: cucumbervwith cream or yogurt, carrot, betroot wirh onion, white or red cabbage, leak, or polish pickles ( not with vinegar but madevrather like kimchi). Foir hot/ boiler vegetable addition this is colifower, broccoli, carrot, beetroot ,yellow beans. Also for sandwiches made at home there is almost always some vegetable used ( tomato, polish pickle )

You even would not find in Biedronka or bakery bread that wasn't made the same day.

I buy almost all needed products (especially vegetables and fruits) on the bazaar. The quality is much better than in supermarkets. I buy bread in little bakeries and meat in local, trusty (and tested) places. So basically, I try not to buy food in the supermarkets. Maybe it's cheaper there but the quality is lower. Unfortunately, the supermatkets are taking over the market and the local businesses are being closed all the time. I try to support the latter ones but it seems to be futile...

You want to eat something (hotdog etc) and optionally also shop (optionally, could be just coming in just for the dog) 3. Main reason: they, unlike most shop, are open on sundays (due to a legal loophole, as most shop have to be closed on sundays unless the person working is just the owner) So yeah its just an emergency shop, lol

400 zl ( 100$ ) a week for food is too much for average person in Poland 400 Zl is what I use for whole month and no I'm not starving rather getting 3000 - 4000 kcal diet. Lowest wage is aroung 3200 zl in Poland , you spend about 1500 for studio (20m2 , living alone , bathroom toilet etc, ) + bills so about 2k total each month , then it's about 400 for food if you cook yourself , if you eat out 3 times a month thats 500 then. You're left with 700 zl on lowest salary possible each month. You still have "free" healthcare on top of it, however stuff like Dentist appointment might cost alot , Root canal is like 1k. Living standards on lowest wage possible are way better in Poland than in US , on top of it there is no need for unions or other shit like that , by Law you will have at least 40 hours a week guaranteed income when you get hired for lowest wage. They cannot just throw you out on the street or cut your hours in half so you starve unlike US. And we were talking about the lowest wage possible , you can quite easily get way more , for example if you get hired in Lidl , you get about 4000 zl after year of work there. So then you're left with 1500 zl leftover each month. As for vegetables , you do not need to eat "a lot of vegetables " , you should eat nutritional dense food. For example go buy brocoli , 5zl per brocoli. You should also eat pickles , you should "zakisic ogóra " in season in jars or buckets and then have whole year worth of good vegetables.

These are market where restaurants and shops make their shopping and usually you need a special retail client card but you can get this also for a private use just ask at the customer service desk before starting shoppig. Anyway they have the widest selection of products (these makrets can be very huge) of all different cusines. You maight be able to find all "fancy" products like duck, rabbit, boar meat. When I want to make sushi I use fresh salmon or tuna only from them cause they really always have the most fresh products. Problam may be that this markets are usually on the far suburbs of the city. This bread that you buy from discount markets is processed before (prebaked and frozen and baked again in the shop), that's why it is cheap and it is not so good for you, believe me. When it's fresh, it's crunchy and tasty, but one day later it's dry and uneatable. Real polish bread needs the sourdough to make it and would cost about 10-15 zlotys per loaf, but it can last for about a week and still be quite good. It will be still quite humid. All this ready to eat food in these markets should be considered as a junkfood. If you want to stay healthy just avoid. Of course it can be tasty, but you should consider it as an last on option to choose, just in case emergency, last available food etc. If you want a good quality bread, just go to the local bakery, there is still plenty of them, and they offer a big variety.

I have been to Spanish hypermarkets many times and I don't see much difference, the selection of products is similar, only there are differences in local specialties.

i don't know how it is in Krakow with Asian food but in Warsaw There is a lot of Asian restaurants. it might stem from the fact that krakow is a lot more of a tourist city but still i think there should be some. usually they are also tasty and quite cheap but it's true that it cost a lot more money to eat something in a restaurant it went form 24-34 zł for a meal to what you said around 35-50 zł in a span of 5 years it's kinda crazy if you ask me

do you have problem with unrefridgerated eggs? Some Americans do not trust them. To be honest, I do not really trust them and prefer to buy them in shops where there they put them in the fridge.

I beg to disagree with "not many vegetables in Polish cuisine". When you eat out a traditional home-style Polish dish, you get: meat, potatoes and load of fresh or cooked vegetables: raw salad ("surówka"), cabbage made in all sorts of ways, cucumber salad, green salad mix, beetroots. I always miss that when travelling. Even in "oriental" bars we always get dish + rice + marinated cabbage salad (which I am fan of :)

You should go to Lewiatan - Żabka is not that good XD Things are definitely more expensive especially ever since the war in Ukraine started. Regarding food: you should definitely try pierogi. As well, we have local grocery stores pretty much at each corner - they are just like the Delis in NYC. But for real - instead of Biedronka go to Lidl and especially Lewiatan - both are cheaper. As well - get yourself a frequent customer card for each store - this way you’ll get discounts which can actually save you a great deal of money Regarding meat: the best is in Mogilany - you can take the bus from Borek Fałęcki - 275 or 245, and go there Regarding veggies - there are actually quite a lot of them in Polish cuisine, but you need to look at the recipes, and not necessarily in the restaurants

couldn't agree more on Biscoff, I didn't even know they sell them in Poland, I tried them when I was in London a couple of weeks ago and my friend told me that I can buy them in Poland. It is a shame that you live far away from Auchan, great shop , I have one 6 minutes away.

WOW the Zabka have sure "evolved" since I worked in Poland 12 years ago. At my Zabka, you'd see a line up of older guys waiting for it to open so that they could buy a small bottle of vodka or whatever they were drinking. It seemed kind of shabby and I only went there when I absolutely HAD to. Good videos and nice viewpoints of what Poland is really like. I agree with you. K*rwa dobrze!

I'm just testing a new AI app by asking it to search for hard data when I see something on YT that seems to be untrue. So I asked AI to find info on the yearly per capita fresh vegetable consumption for a few countries. The data is from the calendar or fiscal year 2022: • China: 104.8 kg (231 pounds) • Poland: 104 kg (229 pounds • Japan: 88.1 kg (194.2 pounds) • USA: 62.3 kg (137.43 pounds). • UK: 67.1 kg (148 pounds) • Vietnam: 22.8 kg (50.3 pounds) • UK: 67.1 kg (148 pounds) :)
