If you fill a wide mouth bottle with eggs, with the yolk unbroken,they will remain unbroken. Just pour into the pan for fried eggs. This is good for one time,or maybe scrambled the second time.

I can personally attest to the coughlins eggs carrier. That thing is the boss. I did a 3 week hunt in Alaska. On the ground, no cabin. I packed eggs in that carrier, I had the 6 and 12 carrier. strapped them to the outside of my pack and walked in 8 miles through extremely dense bush to the hunting grounds. Not 1 egg broke!

We love corned beef hash when camping, but it takes quite a while to evaporate the moisture and get it to start browning. So I now pre-cook it at home, add some extra potatoes, onions, peppers, etc. Then I cool it, vacuum seal it flat, and freeze it. Then when we are at camp, it's just a matter of throwing it into a pan to just heat it, and adding our eggs. Takes so much less time when you want your breakfast. Also acts as another "ice pack" in the cooler, and it saves on fuel. I also pre-cook my bacon, and will sous vide meats so they're all ready to go. It's a good amount of prep, but well worth it when you're there and you just want to eat lol.

Just found you guys yesterday, and I'm enjoying your content so much. Just a few ideas: Dollar Tree has squeeze bottles 2 for $1.25. You can use them for all kinds of things. I think they'd work well for that cracked whole egg thing someone mentioned below (with the top off, of course). DT also has foil sheets, which would be great for foil packet meals over the fire. I saw one of those spice bottles that has 5-6 different spices for about $5 on Amazon. It's around $10 at the camping retailers.

The biggest camping cooking hack is to precook all the meat so you don't have to worry about it going bad or under/overcooking it when your tipsy and it's dark out

Thanks for the great hacks!! One of the best things about camping is prepping ahead of time, creating a great meal, pulling it off at the campsite with little or no effort. Then you can enjoy the rest of your evening around the camp fire with little or no clean up. Yes, It is fun to create a meal from scratch at the campsite, doing it all the at that time, but when the weather changes or your plans change, you’ll wish you had prepped better.

I'm old and single. I also don't care for the trinity and mirpoix from the store. Cut too small, proportions wrong, etc. So I prep mine and freeze in quart freezer bags. Same for Mexican veggies. One thing. On your bin video, if you've got a cast iron skillet, get a baster lid and a camp oven. And Lodge has a steel griddle that's deeper and has nice big handles. Also, the gloves are nice, but take a couple of kitchen towels (4). They're great hot hands and will save on your paper towels. Happy Trails!

Thanks for the great info. Anytime we take our cooler ANYwhere - we freeze water bottles and use those to keep things cold in our cooler. You can also freeze chopped onions. I usually keep chopped onions in my freezer at home and just scoop out what I need for a recipe. I keep pancake mix in a ketchup bottle in my fridge. I make up a batch at the beginning of the week and just make a few at a time when the kids want them. Easy and no mess plus my 6-year-old loves to squeeze the bottle. I've also seen where people mark on the water bottle the egg count. We use extra fast food condiments all the time. 1 tip - store them in a plastic container when packing them. Sometimes they can get squished and pop when they're stored in zipper-type bags.

Don't add liquid to the prepped pancake mix until ready to cook. The chemical leaveners in the batter begin producing gas as soon as they touch liquid. Translation: less fluffy

Right on. You can add a little baking soda to the mix or even egg whites I believe if you really wanted to before cooking, which will help make them fluffy again. 😊🤙🏽

I have MANY years of camping experience. I pick up a few ideas from y’all tho. In this one. When you talk about taking the skillet to the table. Truth in keeping things warm. BUT I camp 9 days 3x a year with the grandkids. (They are getting bigger and fewer come - started with 4) I bring one of the 3 crockpot units ( can pick up anywhere). I will use this for breakfast/ supper. Meat/taters/ pancakes- then later. Refried beans, rotel cheese dip and taco meat for build your own nachos.

In my camping gear and bug out bags, I keep straws filled with seasonings. Mark them and when needed either cut or scissor open. I use a lighter or match and my multitool pliers to reseal. I also have a bunch of straws I cut down to fill for one use seasoning pkts. I save shale straws as they are bigger. I have also bought large straws at restaurant supply stores for this purpose as well. The straws take up such little space too.

Oh and I'm bringing trays of eggs, they're big in our diet, and where we live, food is considerably cheaper than the city near where we go camping, so we take it all 🤣 we usually have food left over, so whatever is suitable gets given to other campers, or dropped at a foodbank, coz we're not taking it home again.

I do big annual trips to the high country. I set up base camps and spike camps. Packing your food in reverse order is really important. I make a daily menu on Excel (yes I am a 63 year old geek) and then build the grocery list from the menu and pack the coolers from last day at the bottom to first day on top. It saves money, waste and time. I use the water bottle and eggs on my kayak river runs. An egg is an egg and keeping them in water bottles was a great hack a good friend showed me years ago… We freeze our water, load them up in our kayak coolers (they look like a mini kayak) and it keeps all our food in good shape for 3-4 days on the water. Also… eat your perishables first and then go to the good ole dehydrated stuff. That pancake mix hack is the bomb! I am doing that this next trip! Thank you for that. I am a French press Moka pot nut… plus… I am a certified coffee-holic lol. I pre measure 1/4 cup of my favorite Community Coffee with Chicory in the half size ziploc snack bags. I can carry 5 of them in my Stanley French press… plenty of the good stuff. I already have 4 tins of Jiffy pop in my camp box… I can skip the movie and enjoy my popcorn while listening to campfire stories. Burn up the waste and save the wire handles to make lantern hangers or whatever. I use the plastic test tubes with caps 1/2”x3-1/2” size for handy spice containers for my back pack cook kit… cheap on Amazon. You two are spot on… you can buy the ketchup, mustard, Mayo packs from Amazon also… but you get a thousand of them… I won’t say how to get a few at a time! I love your videos. I have been camping since I was a kid and I never stop learning things. Thank you for the tips.

I just put a healthy amount of coffee in a regular coffee filter and tie it up with white cotton thread. Put a bunch of these in a baggie and you're all set. Pour hot water over a bag, in a cup. Let it steep for a couple of minutes then dispose of the bag in the fire. My secret mix is one tablespoon of inexpensive coffee to one teaspoon of espresso coffee.
@WhereWeWild
@WhereWeWild 3 ай бұрын
Really we never had good luck trying that! Maybe we didn’t let it steep long enough or something because it always seemed so watery. 🤷🏻‍♂️😂 Maybe it’s that’s secret mix of yours! 😎😊 That’s sweet for quick clean up! The French press and Aeropress are really great though we really enjoy them. ☕️☺️

Thanks for the video. Quick question; your silicone reusable sandwich bag, does it stay water tight if you put it in cooler? I was thinking about picking up a set of Stashers, but they are kind of pricey, so I would like to know your opinion of them.
@WhereWeWild
@WhereWeWild 3 ай бұрын
Stashers are great! The seal is much thicker than a ziplock bag so as long as it’s completely sealed you shouldn’t have an issue. We usually don’t have much water in our cooler either because we use the frozen water bottles instead of a bag of ice. 😊🤙🏽

The cooler hacks (pack in reverse/frozen meat and water bottles, eggs, etc) also work for those of us with 12V fridges. I haven't tried the pre-cutting vegetable idea but I really like it! I have the tictac containers and use the jumbo ones for spices we use most. Cast iron to the table is another good one. Do you put anything down on the table to prevent scorching? It would be a must-have if wild camping and using a folding plastic table.
@WhereWeWild

How do those 12v keep on car truck battery 🔋
@marceld6061
@marceld6061 Ай бұрын
@@jonny6758 While driving the fridges are powered through the vehicle charging system. They don't take a lot of power because they only kick in when the temp needs regulation. Otherwise they act like a cooler. At camp I plug into a power generator (like a Jackery) I think my fridge only draws 25-35 Amps when running? Add in a solar panel to the system and you can go off grid for a long time. Other people work on a "two battery" vehicle system. One is used solely for starting, with the second for powering other loads (lights, fridges, etc)

One think you can do is buy liquid eggs--pre scrambled eggs in a milk carton. Only a bit more expensive than normal eggs, but you have a carton you can just pour as much as you want.

@WhereWeWild

Sweet 👊🏽😃 They’re great man. We live with a few of them in our freezer at all times lol they are awesome to bring fishing. Like I’ll throw one in the side bottle holder of my backpack and put an unfrozen water next to it, or a yeti bottle, protein shake, or liquid IV, or whatever and it keeps it cold. Drink that first, and then by the time I need more the frozen one is starting to melt and I have that cold drink. 😎🤙🏽 A lot of times I don’t even get to that and can just put that bottle back in the freezer when I get home. We reuse them all the time. Usually before a camping trip we will hit Costco and buy a case of Kirkland 1 liter waters, or a case of Smart waters. Those bottles work really well for us. 😊

Something I do is put everything I need for each meal in a gallon ziplock bag, label and put it (as you suggest) in the cooler in reverse order. You reach in, grab a single bag and close it up. For raw meat, put it in a ziplock INSIDE of the bigger ziplock. For cleanup, wipe with a paper towel, spray with diluted spray bleach, wipe down and store. Every 3 or 4 days I dig out the soap and wash everything up.

We camp very very simply - no cooking - no need for cold storage. - Breakfast - cereal & long life milk. - Coffee / Tea - buy later at a nice coffee shop. - Lunch - something from a deli or market. Fruit. - Dinner at tent - Large salads and bread with tinned fish in a sauce . - Wine or beer. Tinned fish is very cheap, healthy, variety of fish, doesn't need refrigerating. Buy enough tins for your trip, then every couple of days fresh salads and bread. We take a large plastic cereal bowl each, which doubles up as a plate for dinner, a spoon, knife, fork, bread knife, tin opener and corkscrew. Wine glass.

I have bottles of water in the bottom of my chest freezers permanently, they're my emergency water supply, and for camping, plus, they keep the food higher in the freezers so I don't have to dive to the bottom for what I need. I have been known to take my freezer camping when there has been a crowd of us for a few weeks. Had a generator, but it died the first day, then rented one for as long as we could, but still had about 10 days after that. Surprisingly, my upright freezer kept everything frozen much longer than the small chest freezer, which ended up being used as a fridge, just put the days food in there to thaw out, and keep the fridge stuff cool. People think I'm stupid, but I'm out there to camp, I don't want to be running to the shops every second day for supplies lol 😂

For many years I also use the bigger drinking straws ,, some of the fast food outlets use clear ,, some use red ,, nice way to keep separated ,, cut to desired length ,, pinch the end with needle nose pliers and melt ,, put spices , med tablets, (different meds in different colored straws ,, most meds have lettering on them ),, strike anywhere matches (full size ),, Vaseline coated cotton balls torn into thirds work best ,, for waterproof fire starters ,, push into straw with a match stick ... pinch and melt the opposite end ... make a project of these for the whole family or a a bunch of friends over for a gear night ..... when needing a tablet or two ,cut the straw across cleanly at the two tabs removed ,, approx. 1/2" ,,,,,then fold and pinch the straw and use the remaining "cap" to put over remaining contents .. have these in a cook kit or med kit for many years . ...
