Great stuff Ben - thanks. I have a settings question for you. I need to shoot a 360 photo of a TV demo room at a small shop - all the TV's (10 of them) will be on and playing different videos/ sports ect. Any suggestion as to how I can get the best image in this environment?

Hi Ben, following up your advice i edited a 360 photo from my insta360 x3 using retouch. i have two major problems: 1)after retouch i cannot return to insta360 to add logo on the nadir point 2)if i export from retouch and upload to google maps the file is no longer visible as a 360 dome, its simply a flat photo. What is your solution on the workflow ? best regards, George

I forgot yesterday... But start to analyse yours pictures again. Since yours photowalk in cologne i did invest a lot of time to timelapse raw videos and DLSR photos. Special focus to manual shots and done them with PTgui and Aurora HDR from Skylum. The secrets at least if you improve the photos special with Skylum and Aurora HDR you learn to manage the edges of the panoramas to hide the stitchlines. I have done a video how to get Aurora HDR legal for free. I guess Mic was the only one who does experiment with Skylum Software. If spmeone buy the newest version get a discount. And for the next 2 weeks they have special spring offer.

Great photos and this Insta360X is pretty amazing in that it allows RAW and manual settings. NOW, how do you make the little clips that show the 360 image like you did after every finished shot where you say "Here's what I got"? Is that done just by rotating and keyframes? I don't see how to do that in the InstaX editor. Is there a way to convert the still image to a movie file and output like that?

I am new to 360 photography. In manual mode how do you set the aperture (5.6) on the Insta 360 one x ? I see the camera settings for iso, shutter and white balance but no aperture setting.

You can’t change aperture on most 360 cameras, only the Theta Z1

Ive become to believe you can only do manual settings with the phone app. If you can find it without the app would you let me know. (For photos) they do have shutter speed changing for videos on the camera but nothing for iso

Rightfully proud of your(s) Sidney harbour at night, Ben. I don’t think I can do the same with my humble MiSphere camera....about the same spot...why don’t “somebody” glue a 1/4 inch platform in the spot “someone” find the most picturesque? It would be a new touristic attractive to go to this point with reallyyyy very little ecological impact and you ( and everybody else) could take very long time-lapses movies...

Haha nice idea but most people shoot with a DSLR and I wouldn’t want to fix a DSLR so close to the water when you could use a tripod for timelapses 😎

On the Insta360 One (not X) none of that is possible in Standalone mode. You can set a few things when actually connected to the Phone, but everything is back into overblown skies in Auto mode in 'Standalone', even in Log - which is actually worse than non-Log for doing that. Settings do not 'stick'. You can check by taking a photo/video while connected, then stay where you are, unclip from phone, do same in Standalone mode: wildly different results. So, is the Insta360 One X better in that regard and can you show us how that works? Do settings you set when connected to the camera remain active when you remove it and use it in standalone mode?

Yes the One is an old camera now and doesn’t have the manual control of One X or other cameras of 2018/2019

@@BenClaremont Well, I bought an Insta360 One X and it's not much better. Same problem with Log mode being set up wrong and producing overblown skies and Auto being better overall, but no way to set custom ISO, ND, SS settings for Standalone mode. Fix is pretty simple, let's see if they take suggestions onboard in future updates. They seem interested in improving things.

Yeah.. although you have to manually set them yourself (you can choose as many as you want with whatever exposures you want)

You can do that but you can also choose custom brackets e.g -1EV, 0, +5EV

I have been wondering what isn't okay with your face on the 360 photo, now I know it 😂 I use auto-mode the most time too. But for some conditions you need to use manual mode. And the results are really impressive from the Theta Z1 👍

@@DanielaTocan It's that already HDR-style? I would say no, but it's definitely a developed RAW. And other point-and-shoot 360 cameras with RAW will struggle to get similar results because they have smaller sensors.

@@BartAchilles you do not need Raw and you can manage it with just one picture. Its not the sensor size allone. But the sensor size helps you. Aurora HDR works as good as photoshop. Results are similar just walk with layers. My husband did make a little demo. In a PC Magacine was given with a special code the full Version of 2018. For free. In our example was not the typycal HDR. We did produce for DaVincy Resolve a high dynamic colorgrade LUT for special use. Because Skylum can not optimize pictures and stitchline we use additional PTGui to solve after colorgrading the problems of the stitchline. Anyways you can try it for free. I use regular Aurora HDR and did upgrade for a small fee from the 2018 to the 2019 Version because of some improvements. Follow the instructions below the video and write me a mail. I will send you the code for the free version than. I guess when Mic Ty have time he will make a video instruction. I did forward him some weeks ago the license key. With the key openplotter you get any Skylum Software a 10€ discount as far as i know. I am happy no more in need of abonnement for adobe. I do not know how much ram you need buz my pc on my boat i use is a workstation with 96 gb ram. I need it for davincy resolve... I changed some hardware in. the time. Every time an insta360 one x picture is exported, it loses the 360 format so it's just a straight flat 2d picture. The only way a picture taken with the insta360 one x, remains in 360, is by viewing it through the insta360 studio. Once you export it to a JPG, it's no longer 360. FYI there are only two of the four option Ben listed, ISO and Shutter Speed, Aperture and White Balance do not exist as settings inside the camera. Insta360 either needs to stop catering to Apple or include a generic iphone with this camera.
