Which adhesive is strongest for polymer clay? Polybonder, Super Glue or Liquid Clay such as TLS? I ran a little (unscientific) test and was surprised at the results!

As a beauty therapist who also make gel manicure one of the most important things for a strong and long lasting manicure is to start on buffed (scratched) surface. So I would recommend when you work with polymer clay or any clay ( they work same as Acrilan and gels) to scratch the both surfaces of the element you wanna attach and the surface on which you wanna attach it. Guarantee you much better results with any of the glues.

This was great! I was actually glad to see that the TLS held the best as that’s the one that I was told to buy by polymer clay “experts!” I’m curious about your thoughts on gluing items to metal, like rhinestones to wire for example. Maybe another comparison video? Thank you for sharing! 💜

Honestly, I haven't found anything that holds consistently. Two-part epoxy is probably your best bet, but I always prefer to try to find a mechanical solution, rather than glue.

Great video; very helpful to see actual results. Would you expect a large sculpture approx. 1" to 3/4" thick at thickest point, using raw SCULPEYIII to a painted Canvas, Clay or Masonite board bond as strongly with TLS?
@SandyHuntress
@SandyHuntress 2 жыл бұрын
Glad you found it helpful, Susan. The problem with a painted piece is that whatever your adhesive is, it's going to stick to the PAINT, not to the base. You would be better off to stick the raw clay directly to the base surface, then paint around it. I learned this the hard way, painting metal tins, then using a very strong 2-part epoxy to adhere what I wanted. Yup, the epoxy adhered extremely well to the paint... which peeled right off the metal pieces. Something that might help, depending on the surface, is to use a primer before painting. The primer sticks to the surface, then the paint sticks to the primer. (This is what my woodworker hubby tells me.)😃 Happy creating!

Hi, thanks for the experiment :), what would you recommend for gluing polymer clay to ceramic mug? Is only liquid polymer clay, applied before baking, enough? Thanks!
@SandyHuntress
@SandyHuntress 4 жыл бұрын
It's a good question and a common one. If the clay is not completely wrapped around the mug, so that you have a mechanical bond, it may pop off. The best thing to use would be two-part epoxy. Pop the clay off after baking then glue it on with the epoxy.

I use liquid fimo to attach fimo on fimo, before baking and it seems quite resistant. Gel superglue seems ok for some things, but not everything, whichbalways leaves me doubts when making brooches or hair-clips 😓

Bake it according to your clay directions. It's better to bake for a longer time, but always bake at the temperature recommended. Check out my video on baking polymer clay for more details. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f9uia5tznJa4npc.html

what's the best glue for metal bails on polymer clay?
@SandyHuntress
@SandyHuntress 4 жыл бұрын
The best way to ensure a strong bond is to somehow embed the metal into the clay. There really aren’t any glues that I completely trust.

Thanks for the video. So, to bond glass and polymer clay, TLS would be a good option?
@SandyHuntress
@SandyHuntress 3 жыл бұрын
No, not really. I suspect TLS will peel off smooth glass after baking. The best way to get a bond is to use a two-part epoxy after baking. E6000 may work, but it depends on the application.

What would you use for gluing metal posts/findings onto baked clay? The TLS?
@SandyHuntress
@SandyHuntress 4 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind that TLS is NOT glue. It is in essence, polymer clay without the colors and binders. If you want to add a post to the back of earrings, the best way would be to sandwich the metal finding between two layers of clay, with the post poking out the back. Use TLS to make the two layers of clay bond together and it should be very secure.

No, TLS won’t stick baked clay to metal permanently. I would suggest using Polybonder glue. It’s like super glue, but keeps its hold after baking.

i have a question. if you use the crazy glue under a certain temp, the fumes wont be as bad? i wanted to ask that question on a fb group called "polymer everything" something like that, and i saw the harsh backlash people were giving this poor girl. but i feel safer asking someone that i know won't think it's a stupid question
@SandyHuntress
@SandyHuntress Жыл бұрын
When it comes to safety, I think you should ask ALL the questions! I would be wary of the fumes from superglue at any temperature. After all, it’s kind of nasty, even at room temperature. The safest thing to do would be to read the Material Data Sheet (MDS) on it, and/or contact the manufacturer directly with the question.

@@SandyHuntress i agree. I've dropped a bottle of super glue on myself, I'll be ok. and yes this one group is very mean when it comes to askinf questions or giving them advice. if the advice doesnt top what another person had commented, that commenter attacks the other. happened to me twice already. I've been in many groups of jewelry, and everyone has been kind and supportive with everyone. so sad we're all just trying to learn. but thank you, i will invest in some super glue. i do have the bake and bond. ❤️

Hi Sandy great video, I'll have to get some. TLS,,, at the moment I'm trying to make a camelion out of normal air dry clay,,I've had problems with white air dry clay,,,cracking up everywhere,litraly,,, they same with the grey that I'm working on at this moment, but not as bad as the white air dry clay,, that is a lot softer,,,,I've even tryed to make a sculpted out of and 8 oz block of white fimo,,,, but didn't have the TLS,,, the curled tail was the most problem, to try to do, oh boy I have the legs to go yet,!!!!,I'm going to mount it on some thich slate that my Son got at the beach for me,, its about half a foot long, narrowed at both ends like a long triangle,, ends are wide at one end and narrow on the other,, perfect for this camelian IF it works out!!,, was wondering do you have any videos of you making a cameilan??,and dragons,,, it would help me on composition and placing bits to it,, thankyou for any info on that Sandy👍👍👍👍. 🌺🌹🌺🌹. PS if not cameians, do you know of any were on you tube, as I've tryed looking but can't find one where it shows, how to make a realistic camelian on a base. Thanks again for your videos Sandy.

@angelabarton2551

well I have tryed that and it does work for drying it faster, its just the composition of the camelian, or mabey I could dry it that way, then add bits to it and go over with another bit of clay to reinforce legs head and body,, there don't seem to be much on making cameians on you tube, if this camelein could think,, it would proberly, wonder what on earth is she going to do to me next!!,. He's just sitting there looking at me without legs, at the moment anyway!! The legs cracked big time, I have clay blending tools that are baller tools, just 3 of them each have small med and large baller,on the end and on the other ends points flats so on,, they really help, but on precision, a little awkward, its just a matter of getting used to them I suppose.🌺🌹🌺🌹🌷🌷🌷🌷🍁🍂
