Think again. 5 Lufthansa A340-600s returned from storage in late 2021. 5 more expected later in the year.

AZMAN air & European cargo has -600 that were once operated by Virgin Atlantic. Both airlines still use Virgin’s livery and put it’s airlines title on fuselage. In the case of amzan air, the original paint was added to the vertical tail and engine based on Virgin’s livery, and it is beautifully matched to the original design.

@@KhznEdits he meant an A340-300, a shorter version of the A340, which came in 4 versions: -200,-300,-500 and -600, the -200 being the shortest and the -600 the longest

But the last qatar a340 was retired in 2019? Could have been qatar's private charter section, qatar amiri. Not sure if they operate an a340 though.

was meant to replace the 747-400, but it’s still cheaper to operate an A350 at this point

According to my latest research, there are at least 37 Airbus A340-600s are still in service as of April 2022 including Air Atlanta Icelandic, Lufthansa, Mahan Air, Azman Air only 1, Conviasa also only 1 -600, and more.

Lufthansa temporarily brought back 10 units of the A340 jetliner this summer for longer First Class routes. Also, many planespotters have seen multiple Qatar A340 landing at different locations around Europe.

I know I flew on a Lufthansa a340-600 on a route from NYC (don’t remember the exact airport) to Munich about 5 years back (+/- 2 years)
